Bactrim, Yes Or No

I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday and am thinking about asking for a Bactrim Rx. I started birth control a week and a half ago and it has helped quite a bit, but I am thinking about adding an antibiotic to my treatment. I took a sulfur based antibiotic about four years ago that helped significantly but wore off after about a year. I wonder if this will have an effect, and if so how much. I know everyone is different and I have heard a lot of positive about Bactrim on here, I would just love some advice. Thanks!

Its one of the strongest most effective antibiotics for acne out there so I would give it a try.

One more question for anyone who has some time, do you think a Family Medicine doctor will even prescribe Bactrim? I can't get into a dermatologist around here for another 5-6 months, yikes! There are only like three here :/ I think that I have had GP prescribe me antibiotics before for acne because it is causing a lot of other stresses like anxiety and depression. I would love any advice. Thanks!

Im currently on Bactrim. Ive used it several years ago for an extended period of time w/ great success. I was taken off due to the amount of time I was on it and eventually, everything came back.

I went thru a pretty bad bout of cystic acne last winter and have again been on Bactrim since March. I am not having the same success I had before but it is keeping the quarter sized cysts to a minimum. Not doing much for the regular ol acne stuff tho.

If you find you are having success with birth control, your acne is most likey hormonal. I would ask your doctor about spironolactone or in short spiro. It is a excellent treatment for hormonal acne. It don't come with the risk like accutane and antibiotic usage does. It's a medication that stays in your system for a short period of time. You take it today and tomorrow there is no trace of it in your system. So if you decided you wanted to try and conceive a child it is safe to start right away instead of 6 months on birth control or a year on accutane.

You could go on bactrim and spiro at the same time. Let the bactrim clear you up and let the spiro keel you clear. That's my suggestion, ask for both and take bactrim for about 3 months while the spiro is taking effect, spiro isn't a overnight cure by any stretch. It takes months for most women to see real results. It is worth it though, the results really are amazing.

Also with antibiotics you can expect your acne to come back once you are off the medication. In a lot of cases acne can come back even worse. So it's nice to have something to fall back onto.
