I am currently on oxytetracycline (for a year) I'm late 20s going on 21 in March, tetracycline cleared my skin and has now stopped working, is it worth me going on accutane? Both my parents acne was not this bad, the peeling is from a green peel by the way, my derm did suggest it?!?!
Hi,
I was prescribed oxytetracycline and ended up taking it for a couple of years (long time ago, when I was much younger). I found, like you, some initial benefit, but eventually my acne came back a bit and stabilised. No further improvement!
Can help but think that's got something to do with anti-biotic resistance in bacteria. In the end I thought that taking anti-biotics in the long-term simply results in whatever bugs are living in your skin being thorougly resistant to common treatments - not a desperately helpful result, of course! There's some interesting information on anti-biotic resistance in acne-related bacteria in wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propionibacterium_acnes
Anyway, I'm now on isotretinoin, and am getting very good improvement (far better than I've ever had before in such a short time) so would recommend you give it a go.
Best wishes,
Steve.
