Not Weighed Before Starting Accutane?

So I visited my derm yesterday and she started me on a course of Accutane/Roaccutane which I was initally pleased about since I have tried pretty much all other antibiotics and they have not worked.

I had all the necessary blood tests and the like, but I was not weighed? It was only when I left the hospital with my prescription about half an hour after she'd prescribed me it that I realised I hadn't been. I'm advised to take 20mg a day and my next appointment isn't until late December.

I'm not exactly the skinniest child in the room, so could my 'visual weight' have been the reason that I was not weighed, and 20mg a day would be enough? Sorry I'm just a bit confused! If anyone has any ideas/thoughts please let me know!

Also i'm pretty new here so go easy ha smile.png

(Also currently trying to lose weight so if anyone has any tips on joint pain then I'd be super grateful too!)

Do you know how much you weigh in kg?

Perhaps you should call your dermatologist? I think you're supposed to be weighed before you start treatment. The fact that you say you're not being seen again until December is a reason to enquire about this, because your derm should be planning to put you on a dosage that suits your weight, unless she is planning on putting you on a consistent low dose. It sounds like she didn't address this issue very well, so please try to call and get an answer so you're not left confused! Most derms put their patients on a Roaccutane plan that suits their weight in kg to ensure remission, but I've heard that some are treating patients with the low dose option now too. Hope this helps and good luck. :)

That's a pretty low dose for your weight, although lower dose courses are more common than they used to be. Did your Dermatologist discuss with you using a low dose?

Unless you have severe acne on your body, that dose is still likely to clear you - but I'd be worried about relapsing.

Well she said I'd be on it for about 9 months, at the 20mg dosage? I think I'm just going to start taking in from now and see what my skin situation is in December. And it might be because my acne isn't that bad, I just have odd large cystic ones on my upper back and smaller spots on my face. Thanks though :)

Thank you! :) I think i'm going to start the 20mg dosage but I might ring her to check too :)

Sounds strange, are you getting it through the NHS? (just out of interest, I have had a few problems with them being disorganised and unfortunately can forget stuff :/) Anyway, I'd definitely check this with your derm if you can :)

Good luck with your treatment, I'm 4 months through my course of Roaccutane and my skin feels incredible, check out my log if you want to see the pictures :) Feel free to message me or post on my log if you need any advice or just someone to ramble at when this drug makes you feel like crap :P

Yeah I'm getting it through the NHS, and I'm being seen at Kings so I don't have a specific derm either which is a bit annoying :( But i'll try and find a number I can ring them on just to double check! And thank you!! :)
