Hi, my names Megan. I'm new to acne org, this is my first post so I hope I have posted in the right place! I have had mild to moderate acne since the age of 11 till now (I'm 23). After I had my son I was referred to a dermatologist through NHS (I'm in the U.K.) She gave me a course of roaccutane for 4 months. Think it was two 20mg capsules a day, so a low dose. She said that It should work fine and that my skin should remain clear after as my acne wasn't severe....just very very stubborn! My skin cleared beautifully but a year later my acne has reared its ugly head :( My skin is so oily, bumpy, spotty and I have a couple of the cyst'y kind of spots on my face to. I'm going to try and get referred again to the derm as I'm so miserable. If I do another course of Roaccutane will it keep my clear this time? Does the second course usually sort it for good? would I have to take it for longer and would I have a higher dose? Would like to hear from people who have had 2 rounds of it. Are side affects worse second time around. I was lucky, all I had was dry lips.

Thanks in advance.

Megan

x

Moved to prescription acne medications. You're much more likely to get better and more knowledgeable feedback there.

A second round of accutane is not uncommon. I would try to get on one if possible.

megan: have you tried hormonal treatments such as oral contraceptives or spironolactone? These can also be effective for reducing both oily skin and acne.

Ater I eat a large meal, my skin is soooo oily.

I can only imagine this is due to the insulin reponse, very anabolic.

Also, 20mg, for 4 months, doesn't sound like you reached the cumlative dose specified.

Thanks for the replies. I am on Dianette at the moment, Hasn't made it better but hasn't made it worse, I have also been on Yasmin which didn't really do a lot. Today The doc agreed to refer me to the Dermatolosgist. I will probably be waiting a good few months but hopefully The derm will let me take it again.....a higher dose this time! although I am a small person so maybe they cant give me a higher dose? I'm hoping that if I give Accuatane another go that I will be permanently clear after. Really don't want to put myself at risk taking this again just to go back to the state my skin is in now :( Was thinking about trying the acne.org regime as a last ditch attempt to sort my skin out but its so expensive to buy in the uk!!!!! urghhhhhh!!!!

Hi Biggs

Just wondering if you had a link for that table because I cant see it on the link you provided?

Just wanted to check the ++ Azelaic acid keratinization; never realised it was that effective.

Thanks
