Hi everyone,
I'm 24 years and have dealt with acne all my life. When I'm not on a prescription, I get really bad break-outs all over my face and my face gets really red from such a break-out. I'm seeing my dermatologist tomorrow to obtain a new prescription. I've been prescribed to take Minocyclin and Amphicilin in the past. My prescription for Amphicillin has expired and I want to seek a new prescription for a different medication but something similar to these two types of medications. I was wondering if anyone might have any recommendations that might be good to discuss with my dermatologist as possibilties? Thanks so much.
I used doxycycline and bactrim in the past. Not taken together though! They both helped clear my skin but I used a benzoyl peroxide prescription (Duac) when I took them so I think that contributed to the results. The both took about 3 or 4 months to clear my skin and, for me, the results only lasted about a month after stopping them. I decided not to continue taking antibiotics though for just my acne because I didn't like the idea of taking antibiotics long term. If you don't care about that though, and you haven't tried doxy or bactrim, then maybe you could ask your derm about them. I'm not sure how similar they are to the ones you mentioned... I think minocycline and doxycycline are pretty simlar though / from the same 'family' of drugs
