Hey guys! Sooo I've been on Sronyx (which I believe is basically Alesse) for 3 months now. It hasn't wreaked havoc on my skin, but it hasn't been helping it either. It's hard to say. I've been seriously considering switching birth control, especially because I'm afraid of the higher androgen levels affecting me. I've read so many mixed reviews on BCP, but would a switch to Ortho Tri Cyclen-Lo maybe help? I have no idea where to go from here.
Here is some info on other BCPs:

I absolutely loved ortho tri-cyclin lo, but my insurance doesn't cover it anymore. I could just tell that my entire body worked better when I was on it. Hormones are so individual that it is hard to generalize what would work for someone, but your prescription writer is honestly your best resource. Typically they have had experience with what does and does not work for other patients. Then you have to give it at least 3 months to let your body adjust. However, if you have extreme symptoms call your doc so they can try something different because some kinds just don't work well for some people. Don't just wait out extremely uncomfortable hormonal affects which may be physical or emotional.

Hey! Glad you've had success with it. My insurance doesn't cover it either, until I reach my deductible. Still going to give it a go though, since the prescription was for 3 months. Hopefully if I like it my insurance will be able to cover it by then. Have you tried/are you taking any other BCPs?
Also, I agree that's it's hard to generalize; I called my gyno and told him about the Sronyx (which he actually didn't prescribe, Planned Parenthood gave it to me for free), and he was pretty definite on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. We'll see what happens! I am nervous about the increase in estrogen with moods and such, but I guess I'll have to play it by ear.

I have tried a few. I had a bad experience with Reclipsen. Enpresse is not horrible. Good luck!

A bit delayed, but I was actually wondering what your experience was on Ortho specifically...how long did it take for you to clear on it? Also, did you get an initial breakout? Just curious I've been on it for a week and nothing extreme has happened. There was a breakout on my forehead, but it cleared in a few days, and the acne on my cheeks (problem area) might be a little deeper, but it's not painful or inflamed and goes away pretty quickly.

I did not experience an initial breakout. My skin got a bit clearer because my acne has a lot of dietary connections that were unresolved at the time. I was never clear on it. I was using it only as birth control. In general I felt very good on it. I did not experience any weight gain, mood swings, headaches, etc. that many bcp can cause as side effects. It really worked well with my body.
