hi, I've been to the doctor to discuss options about how to clear my skin, I had been on antibiotics and came off them because my body was just not having it anymore, and I'm breaking out horrendously.
Now I was at the doctor to discuss my Birth Control anyway because I have the Implant and my bleeding is messed up so I was discussing what my options were about that. Now I also mentioned about my skin, and that the pill is kind of the last resort to be honest.
The doctor mentioned that the pill could help, as I could either take it along side with the implant as it's originally to calm my bleeding, and it may help my skin.
Or I was thinking if I got the implant out and switched the the Pill, which I would obviously be using mainly as a contraceptive but I guess as well for acne.
I am really skeptical about it, as I was reading getting of the Pill can be hard and cause more acne afterwords. I guess I don't have to worry about that yet, as I would probably be on the pill for awhile acting as a contraceptive anyway.
What are your thoughts?
hi,
im not going to tell you what to do but heres my experience:
I had acne since I was 12, it was never serious till last year. Nothing I did helped anymore, I was ridiculously oily and was beginning cystic acne.
I had taken bc pills before but never the 'right' one for me.
I found I have a hormonal disorder and a specialist put me on yaz. Seriosuly within 3-4 months my skin was clear and far less oily. Yaz has an ingredient which is similar to spironolactone but not as big a dose. For me, it works great Ive had no negative side effects not even wieght gain or mood swings. I had no 'initila breakout" as they say, my skin just went from how it was to all of a sudden clear. I found a birth conrtol which fixed my acne. It only took me 20 years lol.
Im not saying it will work for everyone but if youre going to try a pil, ask if you can take yaz .There are risks to every pill ask your gyno if you can safely take it. Good luck!
Hi, thanks. I think she did mention Yaz, I've heard mixed opinions on it. I don't know much about the different types of pills but I will be to sure to ask about it. I've heard it can cause blod clots and the side effects that can caused by other types of Pills are higher in Yaz. But I guess I can't believe everything I read, and will have to wait to see which Pill they recommend.
If it makes you feel any better, my doctor told me any birth control method with hormones can potentially cause blood clots and/or stroke but its a matter of your specific risks and your body.Having any blood clotting/vein issues and smoking makes the risk a lot highter.

I've taken 4 different birth control pills, yaz being one of them which did not help my acne at all, The others seemed to reduce the amount of acne but increase the severity, like I don't break out all over my face but when I do break out it's a painful cyst, which I never had prior to birth control pills. They affect everyone differently so you'd have to try it for at least 6 months to see if it's helping.

Yeah, I see.
Well I am waiting for the results from the doctor, going back to see them and see which pill they will recommend and I guess go from there, the question is if I want to start taking them in the first place. I am afraid that it will make things worse in the long run as my acne currently isn't too bad, it's upsetting but I am really unsure if it's worth risking that my acne would get worse if I ever wanted to get off them you see? I don't know if anyone who has been on it and come off them has had no problem with returning acne, from what I've read, coming off them can cause acne to return..?
I see, well I guess I wont know until I try, I am not sure if I want to in the first place. But the reason they are giving me birth control of a low dosage to regulate my bleeding, so I don't know if there are other options to regulate my bleeding, or if I should go with the pill with the added benefit it may help my skin.
Yasmin helped my acne (which is the same as Yaz with a longer period?). I hardly ever got any breakout at all. But it gave me weight gain and IBS. These symptoms disappeared after coming off it, but I got terrible acne when I went off it . Then eventually all that calmed down and my skin was quite good for a couple of years now it's just starting to break out again argh!! So I am considering the pill.
I've heard Ortho Tri Cyclin works for acne and is a low strength BCP? Yasmin seemed VERY estrogenic to me (my breasts grew a cup size in a week lol).
Let us know what recs you get from your doctor.

Well they gave me a bog standard BC, the one they usually prescribe, I believe its marvlon or something like that. I thought I shouldn't go for a particular BC that is 'designed' for acne because my acne isn't that bad.
I needed the to go on the BC anyway for my periods, so hopefully it will help with my skin as well. Not sure how it's working, been on it for a little more than a week now and I have had quite a few a spots, which I am guessing are probably from the pill or just because I had been breaking out before anyway.
So fingers crossed on the results and hopefully the BC will work. Not to mention I also have the implant it which is slightly worrying, can't imagine what is going on in my body.
I've never heard of that one before, different doctors vary I'd say. The first pill I ever tried was Levelin which every doctor at the time seemed to be giving away like candy.
Hopefully it works for your skin and periods! I am too considering the pill to combat period problems. If it's just the beginning on the pill you may get new breakouts the first few cycles. It should calm down quickly. Can you have the implant AND the BC pill at the same time? Seems like hormone overload to me!
Hey!
I had the implant put in last September and I stayed on the contraceptive pill because my period woudn't settle. I'm worrying that it's bad to be on both so I'm having it taken out. As far as my skin goes I was clear before having it in, then ever since, my acne has returned. (Also on BP cream so i shouldn't be getting any type of spots!). The nurse switched my pill to Marvelon to help with my skin but I don't think it's getting the chance to work with the implant in. I would suggest taking only the pill purely because like me, you'll be overloading your body on hormones
