Hey guys just a few quick questions. I have been on Retin-A micro 0.1% for 9 weeks now. For the past 2 1/2 weeks now i have been completely acne free! But by the end of today I now have about 3 white heads and two cystic pimples . So my questions are:
Is it normal for breakouts this late in the process?
Would it be good to use another acne fighting medication in the morning, now that my skin has adjusted to Retin-a micro?
And does acne become immune to Retin-a after a period of time like most acne fighting drugs?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I started retin-a micro a little less than a month ago. Typically there is a 'purging' process where everything comes to the surface, so you may be at that point. I haven't noticed any significant improvement yet but no worsening of my acne either...
I don't think acne can become immune to retin-a, it basically just exfoliates your skin. (I could be wrong though) I use it along with clindoxyl (clindamycin + benzoyl peroxide), but not at the same time. You can doing a BP treatment in the a.m and retin-a at night, or do alternate night (BP one night, retin-a the next) depending on how sensitive your skin is, or if you're experiencing a lot of dryness/peeling.
It is not unusual for you to get abreakout this late as acne can stay under the skin for months before making its presence known. You want to wait between 12-16 weeks to evaluate if this treatment is working. If you want to add BP in the AM, do it gradualy as to not irritate your skin
Good Luck and try not to stress
