Patience they say is a virtue. And I understand completely that acne doesn't go away over night when taking a medicine, let alone accutane where the dosages last months on end and it " doesnt really absorb into your body until 3 months of starting the first dosage" at least that's all I keep hearing.
I have been on accutane since about June of 2012. And I am still on it. I wasn't getting the results I wanted because I realized my doctor was an absolutely no experience with accutane patients And barley had an idea as to how accutane really works. So 6 months passed and I finally switched doctors.
Note to those wanting to go on accutane: MAKE SURE your doctor has a lot of knowledge and experience with accutane dosages and treating patients.
I have taken about 4600 mgs of accutane over the last 6 months ranging from
20mg,
20 mg,
30 mg,
30mg,
40mgs
and now 60mgs each being a 30 day script.
I am 5'4 and weight 122lbs
I finally switched to a great doctor and he said to me I have been given to low of a dose so from 30 mg I jumped right to 60mg and that's when the drastic change started to happen.
6 months on accutane and not getting the results you hoped and dreamed for can really make everyday living a lot worse for any accutane user.
But now I have eczema flair ups all over both my hands and around my mouth ( and when the stress and anxiety from not getting the results i wanted make my flair ups happen more and more)
I still get black and white heads and I have this one cystic pimple that was injected (while on accutane) a month ago and had recently flared up even bigger then it was to begin with.
My questions Are
Should I give up hope that accutane will ever work?
And how much longer can my body handle this medicine?
Are there any tricks of the trade that I don't know of?
Any recommendations on makeup to use? Lotion I should be using? Steps that I am missing that I should be doing?
Did anyone else have a alter-reaction to a kenalog shot on accutane?
Accutane is awesome! I'm
29 and I take 40 mg of the generic brand claravis once a day! It's the only thing that has worked! My acne was mild and it's my 2nd month and I get one or 2 small pimples from my cycle and that's all! I love it : ) I have 4 months left : )
Hi I'm new this but hope I can help...
I've been on Isotretinoin tablets for roughly 5months, not 100% sure as I haven't been counting. I was prescribed accutane after trying many creams, lotions and forms of antibiotics prescribed by my Doctor. My acne isn't severe in anyway and I am thankful for this, however when I do have breakouts, usually on my cheeks they are more like cysts, this is the reason I was prescribed accutane. For the first month or so they seemed to be working, I had almost clear skin and any spots on my shoulders or back went(I haven't suffered with these since) however they seemed to have stopped working :/ I've been on 60mg, 3 tablets a day. I stopped taking them about a month ago as they wasn't working, however my derm as recommended that I continue on them taking 1 or 2 a week. He thinks it may be because I have low iron levels so I am now on iron supplement tablets to prevent anemia.
I get a lot of dry skin too, I previously had oily skin.. my lips are terrible. Are your blood tests ok? Make sure you regularly cleanse your skin, twice a day or more if you feel it is needed. I usually remove makeup, wash my face(exfoliate) and then use a toner to remove any last makeup. I've also started using Clearasil spot cream before bed which really seems to be working. My only problem is red marks left from the acne, and sudden flare ups.. hopefully they'll stop soon.
Hope I've helped , seem to have rambled on a bit.

we seem to surely be on the same boat. I never had bad acne either, but when it does flare up they are cystic and that was the reason as to why I was prescribed accutane too.
I have thee most religious routine with my skin. i exfoliate once a week and cleanse my skin with biore. I switched to MAC makeup, but still use a BB cream before the foundation. I never ever sleep in my makeup and I use an olive oil based moisturizer along with my eczema cream (since I developed eczema while on acctuane) and it normally keeps my face moisturized for about an hour. I have stopped using toner because my skin is just way to sensitive. I use the garnier skin renew overnight peel occasionally (it deff works and its about $10.00 I would highly recommend that) but my doctor says i need skin resurfacing so I am probs just wasting my time, money and faith at this point.
i am finally at the end of the long road of acctuane (hopefully i find out tomorrow) but now when I moisturize my pores leak water? i always have water spots from my pores its the strangest thing....has this ever happened to you?
Its funny though cuz i have seen research stating low dose tane is much better than higher dosages..
i mean im sure we have all done our research since accutane (clavaris) is no joke, but everyone is different and everyones body reacts differently to dosage amounts. From personal experience the low doses were a waste of time, but you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. My doctor just was prescribing me random dosages to play it safe and ended up pro longing this journey of mine.
That's weird, my acne seems similar to yours, I've been taking 2-3 tablets a week for about 1 month now and I haven't had any bad cysts during this time, however I still have a lot of red marks that won't seem to go. No I don't get that however I feel that the red marks left do come back every now and then. I'm on iron tablets now, so maybe this is the reason I'm not getting them so bad.. I always wash my make up off before bed anyway so I know it's not that and I try not to use too many products or oil based products on my face. Hope both of yours are working well for you. I wanted to stop taking them altogether when they weren't working however my dermatologist said not to and take 2-3 a week, so I'm a bit confused. Going to trust him for now, hopefully be off them soon as my acne really isn't too bad.
