I started Claravis about 3 weeks ago and I have nowhere else to turn to until November 8th.
I know headaches on Accutane are to be expected but mine were very severe from the get-go. I felt like crying every night. The sensitivity to light was there, and very bad eye pain. It felt almost like i had the flu, but no stuffy nose with it.
My derm doesn't seem to care, they are the most unprofessional office I have ever seen, so I am switching derms, but I have to wait about a month and I am really worried. The scary thing to me is,I took accutane 6 days 20 mg and my headaches were THAT bad and usually only at night time. They were accompanied by blurry vision, pressure behind my eyes and eye pain in general and pressure in my ears. I tried everything, saline solution eye drops and I have always drank water for years now, and i am vigourous on my diet and i work out every single night, so drinking water is very essential to me. None of that seemed to help.
I called the derm (the bad one), and asked them what i should do they told me to stop for a week, and then continue again. My headaches never fully went away the week that i stopped. I tried taking it again a few days ago and wow, the pain was even more unbearable and 2 days after i took it, it STILL is! what is this? i mean, i only took 20 mg for 7 days total. I dont understand how i could have a reaction like this so early in the course? i dont want to give up but my mom seems to think i should... i just feel so hopless i have had severe cystic acne since i was 12, and am now 23, and I am just so tired of it and constantly being told this is my only solution. There HAS to be another way. Also, share other remedies please that may have worked for you or someone you know, as i know everyone is different, maybe something could work for me.
What you are desribing are migraines not headaches, and yes they can be very serious. I got a few headaches at the beginning of my course, but they stopped after a few days. If you wanted to push it I would lower your dose, and double your water intake (I really do mean double, I was drinking around 4ltrs, and I never used to drink a alot of water, you may seriously want t consider drinking even more). If they dont stop after another few days I would stop taking the medication until you can see someone.
I am drinking at least 8 bottles of water. i didnt at first but the last few times i took it i chugged it like crazy and no luck. Is there a lower dose than 20mg? My head still hurts today and eyes are slightly messing up ( it has been 3 days since i last took accutane) idk whats wrong. it just worries me because my head has never hurt like this before and i have always had perfect eyesight. theres no way it affected me that hard in the first 7 days on 20 mg right?

Certainly it can affect you that seriously that quickly. Accutane is a very serious drug. If it's affecting your eyesight get off it now.
There isn't a lower dose than 20mg as far as I know. You'll need to look into other options for acne control. Don't sacrifice your health for beauty.

Thank you for your reply, and i haven't taken it since Monday (October 8th) i feel really bad today still, my mom said she could feel my head throbbing. I just didnt think it would affect me that much that quickly, but thank you for letting me know that it is possible. My eyes are fine off and on, they mainly are sensitive to light and the computer screen and hurt because of the pressure behind them. I only took it 7 days so I am hoping the headaches or migranes whatever it may be, will subside in the next few days. I read your sig about how you got better. What exactly is the medication you take? What does it do? I have tried all proactiv, microdermabrasion, various over the counter products, doxycycline, ziana gel and a natural soap made of vegetables and sulfur. There HAS to be another way besides accutane. Right now i am using Chlorhexidine Gluconate solution cleaners. Has anyone heard of this being affective? I looked it up and found various things about it being a non-proven solution for acne, but i am curious? today was my first day using it.

I took spironolactone, which is a medication that helps suppress hormones that lead to acne. There was a study done recently that found that 2/3rds of women who have acne have elevated androgens (testosterone is one type of androgen). Other women may not have elevated androgen levels, but their body is "sensitive" to certain hormones and they still break out.
Spironolactone helps mute those androgens. Serious side effects from spiro are rare, it is a pretty mild drug. The only downside is that you have to stay on it to stay clear, but honestly, many Accutane users have their acne come back anyway, so I have no problem taking one pill a day to have perfectly clear skin. Unlike Accutane, spironolactone is safe for long-term use. Spironolactone is also cheap ($20 without insurance a month).
If you want more info on that, see the "read my story" link in my sig. Also this webpage explains how it works for acne.
Too much water is bad because it will flush out all the vitamins and minerals which will cause headache.
I didnt drink too much water at first. At first i was drinking 3-4 bottles, then i read on here where people said it could be dehydration and to double-up your intake so i started drinking 6-8 bottles.

Thanks, i will definately look into that. I take ortho tri cyclen for acne right now, i have been before i started accutane and it seems to make my acne flare up, i am also thinking of looking into another kind, but i am intrigued by what you take, because i always thought my acne was hormone inbalance but when the birth control (2 diff kinds) wouldnt work i thought maybe it wasn't hormones. so thanks for the information! i appreciate it a lot!
OTC is more "acne-neutral" than helps acne. Technically it still isn't acne-neutral. The type of progestin it uses still has a low amount of androgenic activity so in sensitive people it will break you out.
All birth controls contain a type of synthetic progestin. You will find that most mini-pills or "Lo" birth controls have a type of progestin that increases acne.
Progestins that minimize acne are:
Drospirenone (Yaz, BeYaz, Safyral)
Desogestrel (Orthocept, Mircette, Apri-28)
Ethynodiol diacetate (Demulen, Zovia)
Cyproteone acetate (Dianette, Diane-35)
Progestins that are acne neutral (supposedly, they actually still have some androgenic activity, but not a ton):
Norgestimate (Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo)
Progestins that create acne:
Norgestrel (Ovral)
Norethindron (Necon, Errin, Ortho-Novum)
Levonorgestre (Alesse, Plan B, Mirena, Triquilar)
The type of progestin is the first thing to look at. The second factor is how much estrogen is in the pill. If the amount of estrogen is too low that can increase acne as well.
So birth control is an option. I just found all the different types and such a big headache, though, and got a copper IUD (no hormone version of the IUD) for birth control and take spiro for acne.
