I got prescribed Retin-A micro and Minocycline (solodyn).
Ever since I started taking the solodyn, I have had bad pain in my left chest, like its heart pain. Its really tight and feels sore. I thought it was just heartburn but its not going away.
I took 3 doses and its still occurs, so I called my derm and he said to stop taking it and see if the heart problem goes away and contact him back. He still wants me on an antibiotic but I told him that I really prefer not to. I try not to read possible side effects but honestly, they scare the hell out of me. (discolored teeth? arghh)
Do I really need an oral antibiotic?
I've been on Solodyn and fortunately, I didn't get any side effects from it. What your dermatologist was trying to avoid was some of the initial breakout that comes with retinoids. The first time I used Retin A Micro I used Solodyn with it, and though I still got a breakout, it was nothing like the one I am having now. I started taking Retin A Micro again almost 11 weeks ago, and my skin is still purging just a little bit. But I do wish I had been on an antibiotic when I began because my face is full of PiH.
In short, you don't HAVE to stick with the antibiotic, its purpose is only to soften the blow of the breakout you will likely get on the Retin A.
