Alright, so I'm going on a grad trip with my school during our spring break. This is the only time I've considered drinking while on accutane, but I want to know. Would I be able to get away with getting drunk a couple nights? This is the only time during the course I'd be drinking.

Try not to binge drink. The average liver processes one drink per hour (one drink=12oz beer, 5oz wine, or one shot of liquor). Try not to do much more than that per hour.

I went on a trip recently, and drank a few times a day. It just didn't feel "right" because of the Accutane. (Accutane and alcohol both increase triglycerides, and super high triglycerides damage your pancreas, etc.)

On your trip, if you feel like you're more of a lightweight than normal, or if you feel sick, drink less. But some people do drink a lot on Accutane and don't experience problems so go with your gut feeling.

i think in moderation it doesnt do too much. Last saturday however, i drank too much, now for the first time, when I swallow liquid, it hurts, in the upper stomach exactly.

I drank like a fish on weekends when I was on Accutane but always felt like complete shit afterward. Even worse than a normal hangover. Just be careful because it seemed as if I had needed like 7 or 8 beers to be completely retarded trashed. Plus being drunk + looking in the mirror = scraping at your face sometimes which isn't always good. Proceed with caution but have fun also Accutane is not a life sentence of no fun!

I have a social I'm going to on Saturday and I tend to go out to the bar every couple of weeks. I know I've read that it says "don't overdo it with the alcohol" when on Accutane but I'm thinking that I just don't want to drink at all.

On the pamphlet I received from the pharmacy, it says in the summary of information, "Avoid the use of alcohol while taking this medication because it may increase the risk of certain side effects (e.g., pancreatitis). Doesn't say anything about "limit yourself" it just says avoid it altogether.

@misschrissy said about a shot of liquor per hour, so maybe if I had a mixed drink every hour and a half or so it would be okay.

I most likely won't drink at all during my course however, because that's a huge risk to take for a little bit of alcohol.

I would say it's fine in moderation. Don't get sh**faced multiple nights in a row... you're damaging your liver more than a normal binge drinking night without Accutane.

Plus, let me tell you, Accutane hangovers are TERRIBLE. Even when I just have a couple drinks I feel like utter garbage the next day. It's really bad.

I drink occasionally, I'm on my third month of Accutane, and it doesn't seem to be a big deal. I'm not a doctor though so who knows. Maybe my insides look like mush.

Drink lots of water since accutane is dehydrating and so is alcohol.

This is what I have done. I avoided alcohol altogether. In 2 months I will be able to drink again, ending a booze free 7 and a half months. My first pint of bitter will taste all the better for that, guilt free. My dermatologist told me not to drink at all, others here have been given different advice by their dermatologists though.

You get used to it and after around a couple of weeks you stop thinking about it. It can affect your social life though, depending on where you live. For example, in Britain our social lives pretty much revolve around drinking in the pub. Yet more so if you are a young bloke. Coca-cola just does not cut it, wooo its Friday night - lets get bloated!

I have had a few non-alcoholic beers, and they are not that bad if you use your imagination. I just can't stop drinking them now. I'm worried I'm turning into a non-alcoholic.

Perhaps you could do it for charity. Give up alcohol for half a year. No need to tell people you can't drink anyway. And it avoids the questions from others as to why you can't drink. For some reason everybody has to know why you are not drinking.

Haha that was brilliant.

I've also been thinking about this recently. I'm going to Berlin on the 21st to see some friends and I'd like to get just a little bit drunk 1 or maybe 2 nights. I think I'm going to phone my derm and ask before I go. The way I see it though, as long as you take it easy and don't do it often you should be ok, but still seems like a risk. Probably not a risk worth taking but that's life I guess.
