Yea so I'm male, I took Accutane a while ago, NOT worth it for me at all...Destroyed my sex drive and gave me problems with some other things too

Anyway how the F&%$ can I increase my Sex Drive from the damage Accutane may have done, whats the best way of going about it, what meds, herbs or whatever can help?

I've googled "Accutane and Libido" and I've noticed a lot of others have the same problem

Thanks for any help with this

Though I am a female, I don't have any suggestions except to look at a post from a day or so ago under sexual side effects it might be on the second page of the fourm.

Also I advise if your sex drive is that destroyed to look online and read Kevin Pezzi m.d. article on accutane and sex.

I take Ginseng, Ginko Biloba and Saw Palmetto.

I also recommend looking into Dostinex, a prescription drug, that massively boosts drive and reduces refractory time. L-arginine has also helped and you could look into testosterone boosting supplements.......although this will increase the risk of your acne returning.

best of luck. I have suffered and am doing OK at the moment.

If you smoke cigarettes or anything, you must quit the smoking. Also you must take up running on a treadmill DAILY to get your blood flowing back to normal. What you are experiencing is pre hypertension and libido fatigue. Blood and oxygen are the key to sex drive but most importantly proper brain functioning.

I also recommend eating lots of black olives, should help down there.

Testosterone boosting supplements will prove to be a huge mistake as this will increase the risk of your acne returning as well as hair loss.

Deer antler, Epimedium and Ginseng are great though.

That's a very interesting comment. I also experienced low libido while on and after Accutane, but I had also started smoking cigarettes at the same time.

I am a 35 y.o. female. I took accutane when I was 21 and again when I was 23. My acne came back a few years later and I still struggle with it.

Here's the bad news...my libido has been low for the last 10 years. I have been using bioidentical hormones under the supervision of a doctor for the last 15 months. This includes tweaking my estrogen, progesterone, DHEA and testosterone levels. 15 months and I am not better.

I think Accutane has permanently done damage to my drive.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it.

that is unfortunate, accutane is known to cause side effects years down the road, i also have libido problems, painful intercourse and more down there, I'm a male, one thing I can recommend is buying kevin pezzi's online book called Science For Sex, he talks about accutane induced sexual dysfunction and ways to treat it, both for females and males.

Thanks for your reply. I have Dr. Pezzi's book and have tried some of the things he has suggested. I too have painful intercourse and really low libido. It always feels forced even though I have a really supportive husband. Here's the saddest part...I don't think I have had a vaginal orgasm in 10 years. At least I can have decent clittoral orgasms. I think that the bio-id hormones and taking daily fish oil have helped there. It is so frustrating. I wish I had never taken Accutane. It was definitely not worth it.

I will go back and read Pezzi's book : )

me too, i suffer the same thing, only difference is i have a schlong, this is a really bad side effect, i gotta say, you take a drug to increase your chances with the opposite sex, and then when you engage in sex, you can't enjoy it

How long of a time period was it until you noticed this adverse reaction? Or did it start on treatment and never go away?

I've made good progress but find once I've 'had it once' I struggle to get excited again....unlike before accutane where it really wasn't an issue.

Agin, people think acne is bad - sexual dysfunction is a whole different ball game.

Yeah, I think being male would even be harder. I feel for you. I can still have clittoral orgasms so at least I have that. Intercourse is almost never good for me. If I can do it it either hurts really bad or I can't feel it.

I thought that getting my hormones balanced would solve all of my problems but even though the numbers are coming into range I don't feel all that much better. You might consider testosterone therapy. I go to a physician through BodyLogicMD. They are really good. I think that I am just a lost cause.

I have been struggling with low libido since I was about 23, right about the time I did my second course. It sucks because I used to want it all the time. I was such an opportunist.

What can ya do?

Nothing, it looks like. Accutane negatively impacts just about every physiological function responsible for creating a healthy sexual experience. There are several biological processes that work in synergy with each other to provide sexual stimulation, and if one of these processes is damaged, then it takes your sex drive down with it, because since everything is connected, all these things need to posses some function in order for you to have a sexual experience.

Accutane probably degrades the connective tissue protein glycosaminoglycans (collagen, elastin, glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid), so the penis and vagina cannot expand as easily as they used to. It interferes with the neural pathways in the brain. It can induce neuropathy. It damages energy production metabolism. It messes up the thyroid hormones. It decreases steroid androgen hormones and hormone receptor integrity (testosterone). It affects the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine and Norepinephrine. It damages cell membranes and fatty acid metabolism. It can cause ischemia leading to problems with decreased circulation (due to the constriction of the blood vessels from the destruction of the connective tissue glycosaminoglycans in the arterial walls). The list goes on and on...

My sexual side effects from Accutane are virtually everything, permanent painful intercourse, loss of libido, decreased volume of ejaculation, horrible erectile dysfunction, and total loss of sexual sensation. These side effects did not surface during my 6 month course of Accutane treatment, but rather they gradually manifested themselves over the years after stopping Accutane.

My penis won't expand as easily as it used to because the skin and tissue has lost its elasticity, so it tightens up. It's like having extremely bad shrinkage from cold exposure, but for me, this shrinkage is there all the time even when the surrounding temperature is 30 degrees.

I used to be a good 7 inches in length, but gradually over time, it has diminished to a length of less than 6 inches. I can't wear boxers anymore because when the pain is at its worst, I cringe with discomfort because most of the time my penis is so tender and thin it feels like there is a sheet of sand paper in my pants that is constantly rubbing up against my genitals. It's there all the time. The severity of the pain comes and goes a little but it never completely goes away. It's impossible for me to completely take my mind off of it cause it's always there. I've tried natural testosterone therapy's to no avail.

If you take a look at all of the FDA's adverse drug reaction reports from Accutane on Congressman Bart Stupak's website, there are people who have reported severe sexual side effects: loss of libido, ejaculation dysfunction, vaginal hemorrhage, painful intercourse and more. Roche ( the manufacturer of Accutane ) and the FDA have both suppressed this disturbing evidence that would have prevented me from taking Accutane!!!! These reports span all throughout the 1980's and the 1990's.

Any drug that can slough off the entire top layer of skin on the genitals causing pain and dryness that does not emerge until years after you are done taking it, needs to be removed from the market.

Roche, the company that did this to me, needs to be held accountable for this motherf**king shit.

In all seriousness does this work to increase it again? Have you experienced it? My partner was on steroids in the past so would consider going back on them if it was to help!
