I started taking Accutane late April this year, and now it is my 4th month(I had to skip a month).

I used to take the pill with water, and I had normal side effects and dry skin.

My 4th month, I started taking the pill with organic milk, because I have heard good thing about it.

But now my skin is oily again, and my side effects are gone :snooty: . Also I get a few acnes on my cheek again for a long time  ...I have had acne for a while now since I started taking Accutane, and I am so upset...!!! I am taking 80mg a day and my skin is getting oilier everyday now..! :naughty:

I really think that it is because of milk...!!!

I don't usually drink milk , and I am really shocked..!

It is already 4th month and it is a terrible thing happening to me..! :|

Can anyone have any idea? Thanks for your help

well my dad told me not to take vitamins with milk because it coats the lining of your stomach and makes it harder for you to absorb the vitamins..could be the same with accutane but not sure :/

It makes a lot sense~! Because I have no longer seen any side effects at all, and no dry skin, but oily skin with a few pimples on my cheek...! eww~!!!!

Thanks for your input sean j!

I don't know...! Somehow, I am taking higher dosage and don't see ANY side effects any more..

I used to get really dry up..but now, I am oily and my skin developing a few pimple.

I am going to my derm today, so I'll ask him about that..!

But this happen started exactly at the same time I started taking the pill with milk..So I am guessing that it is related...At first, I thought milk made my side effect much less, but now I feel that milk made Accutane less effective on my skin...

I am not sure...!

But since yesterday, I stopped taking the pill with milk and started taking it with water again, and see what happen..!

i think its best to drink it with whole milk because whole milk has fat and the accutane goes onto the fat then gets absorb into the body...thats why you need to eat a fatty meal before taking accurtane

OKay, here is my little update.

I have stopped taking Accutane with milk(I only drink organic milk), since Sep 3rd. Now I am taking it with a glass of water.

It has been only two days, but my lips started dry out a little bit now. I got a small rash on my forehead yesterday morning for a little while  . Also I went to the derm yesterday, and asked him about milk. He said that water is the best choice to take any medicine.

Oh, also I got some flared up on my chin and forehead last night.. They looked like many small small pimples under my skin, but not red :wall: . I cried but my bf was with me and tried to clam me down. Most of them went away when I woke up this morning, but they are still there... My bf called my doctor this morning and asked my derm for some advice. And my doctor want me to come back on Monday again...

Accutane was working perfectly before, so I hope everything will be okay..Only time will tell..

So these days I am staying home and be online, watching tv, playing games, chatting with my friends on the phone..because I don't feel like going out right now...

But I have to go out tomorrow...because my best friend who live very far away from me is in town, and can't miss her!!!!!

Hopefully my skin will look better tomorrow

Oh my god!

Once I stopped taking Accutane with milk, my face have stopped breaking out, and now I look so good!!!!!!!!

This morning, when I looked at myself in a mirror, I have a nice grow on my face! I just needed to tell someone, because I am so happy  ! But I still don't have any side effects any more..just maybe a mild dry nose(inside)...? My lips are very moist and my skin has a very very small amount of oil. I thought my lips got dry a little on Friday..but it was just my air conditioner was making my lips dry out. I am wondering why..

I'll go to my derm today at my lunch break, so I'll ask him about it and see..! :)

I have been taking tane with my milk every morning and I am 100% clear at 3 month period... so it could be you have some allergy to milk?

according to our professor who is also a doctor, your stomach gets coated with the milk yes, but this does not alter the absorption of the drug. first of all, absorption happens in the intestines and not in the stomach. so even if you get your stomach coated, it wont affect. but this also depends on the drug. there are drugs that only dissolve upon reaching your intestines( like enteric coated ones), because gastric juices in your stomach will destroy their content if they dissolve too early. some drugs dissolve earlier upon coming in contact with your saliva, and the like.

In the case of Accutane, im not really sure. maybe your allergic or something to the milk? what it may do is to irritate your intestines and promotes hyper activity of bowel movement, causing improper absorption. did you have stomach aches, loose stools, and such of those which you thought was a side effect of accutane but probably a reaction? hmmm...

haha! anyway.. your all good now so thats whats important..

God Bless!!!Aoe

Just like how accutane works just for some people, milk also works for only some people...

This probably a late reply but I also have the same problem now that I started drinking milk lactose free and Nog nearly 2 months on Accutane. I have the same exact negative effect in increase of acne zits and oily skin! made an account just to share this with my acne friends ;p

I was doing so good and not breaking out but I started drinking almond milk since I can™t drink regular milk and tbh I™ve been breaking out like crazy like big painful pimples/zits..I hate it! I™m pretty sure it™s the milk because before I wasn™t drinking any till recently ...I was perfectly fine before !:smileys_n_people_44:
