As a side note, the hair really only seems to shed in the shower. Of course, some do fall out here or there, but typically I don't notice that as much.

Also, what do you mean by "had" inflammation. Does it have to persist? Honestly, I wasn't really looking out for it, so I don't remember.

What I meant by scalp inflammation are scalp pain, tight and intense itchiness. You should be fine if you experience nope of that.

I am just like you, my hair usually shed in the shower and I lose no more than 30 strands daily, but I have fine hair to begin with, so 30 strands per day make it really hard for me to accept and, occasionally, I will shed around 50 strands when I was under intense stress.

I envy most of the chaps here because most of them have ultra thick hair to begin with.

I dissagree buddy, rudolphs shedding began very early on in the treatment, TE usually takes atleast a few months to begin. Remember Alopecia areata can resolve and if it does it usually does so within a year or so.

Yeah, you might be right, but still, he was lucky to had his hair loss resolved within less than a year.

Reading this thread, is it still so lower the dosage to accutane?

my derm wants to put me on the full 80mg despite my objections. She def one of those money hungry ones that just perscribe you anything. Are tablets only give in form eg 20, 30,40 60,80mg sizes?

Take 20mg every other day, eg: tuesday and thursday weekly. Trust me, you will not regret.

Well, this morning the itch appears to be gone...replaced by a massive headache...

I took 70mg/day for 3 months, then 80mg/day for 3 more. Two of my friends took about the same and experienced no side effects.

All you can do now is to wait and observe if your hair condition gets better or worst for the next 2 or 3 months before deciding what you attempt to do for your hair.

Thanks guys.

So usually the tablets are split up in smaller portions?

Thanks, Max. I have a tendency to get sinus headaches, so it is hard to really distinguish. As for the itch, it will typically be localized in an area about the size of a dime. The feeling is very similar to that of a contusion.

For the record, I am a male, 24. Hope this helps. Thanks again for the info.

It comes with soft capsules rather than tablets. There are 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg per capsule and maybe more which I doesn't know about and, america usually don't carry the 5 and 10mg one. Not sure about Australia though.

I am not sure if you are suffering from what most of us here do. Anyway, try organic products that contain lavender, rosemary and tea tree oils. It contain antibacterial, healing properties. As for the scalp itching, try Neem oil which contains antifungal properties.

Would Burt's Bees Conditioner be a good option?

I am going to a derm who has a lot of experience with accutane this Saturday if I don't have to work (construction is a bitch). I'll see what he has to say about the hair and these chronic migraines that don't seem to go away. I'll relay back his suggestions to the thread.

I also experienced hair loss while on accutane-the acccutane worked great for 5 years "I didn't lose one hair during that time period nor did I grow any back" I had a lot of hair-but when the accutane wore off, I lost some more hair "plugging up the shower with it". I could never figure that one out. My hair was never oily before I started the accutane, but was very oily after the Tane wore off.

when did you begin taking accutane and what was your dosage MichaelB? were you taking any other medication or vitamins while on accutane, and what do you mean the accutane wore off, do you mean that you get acne again?

im thinking could it because i stopped so fast that the drug is no longer in my body? probably if i continue taking it again the scalp inflammation miight be gone?

i do experience hair loss and hair thinning since then and it is becoming worse...i need help :'(

Hey guys, thx for contributing all the good info on this thread. Has anyone tried this lasercomb for their hair loss/thinning following accutane?

[Edited link out]

Just wondering. I was on 80mg of accutane for 3.25 months, quit early, but looks like I now have permanent thinning and hair loss. Just trying to see if anyone has tried the comb.

It would be a waste of money to invests on a lasercomb, I feel. You can try if it works for you though.

your best bet would be to wait it out, cause ur chances of recovering are high because you didnt ake it for so long. to help, try to wash your hair with baby shampoo and apply rogaine to help the regrow process.

Sorry for the delay; I've been swamped at work lately.

I went to the other derm, and he said temporary hairloss is common after any medication, inclusing accutane. He also said that it usually takes 6-12 months to recover and he hasn't seen any permanent cases. On that note, he said to come back if it doesn't imporve within a year. When I pointed out the itchy spot, he said the area was a little red and prescribed Clobetasol. Similar to Trangs, itch bumps seem to come and go in random places.

Right now my hair looks like I'm suffering the side effects of chemo. My temples and over my ears are thinned out. There's also some thinning on the top of my head. My eyebrows are also shedding like crazy. Basically, I'm losing hair from all over my head. I don't know what this may or may not indicate.

My original derm called me on Thursday to tell me that my white blood cell count is low and has been dropping. Again, this information may or may not help. I am scheduled to see my GP about this new issue.

As far as my routine/diet, I rarely drink coffee, usually only on the weekedns. I don't eat red meat. I take Omega 3, Biotin, and a multivitamin. I don't drink carbonate or caffeinated drinks. I eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. I exercise religiously and am very active at work.

For my hair, in the morning I use Nizoral before work. At night I apply the Clobetasol, then Nioxin after I work out.

Again, I apologize for the lengthy message and delay. I hope this sheds some light on the situation.

Tell your doctor that there are people that don't recover from the effects of accutane. I'm one of them. I took accutane back in spring 2006. now its almost 2009 and my hair is still thin on top =(

How much of Biotin are u taking and how long? I ask because I was taking about 2500mg of Biotin for about 1-2months and experienced break outs on my back and some on face.
