Max, that is a shitload and a half of grapeseed extract...I don't think it can hurt you, but all things in moderation haha... I am currently taking 500mg of GSE twice daily (total daily dose of 1g) and thought that was pretty high. I also bought some kooky sounding german shampoo called "active-M" that another guy claims to have stopped his hairloss in combination with nizoral. I got it on ebay and am looking forward to trying it out.

[Edited link out]

The guy provides a plausible explanation for why it worked, though this was apparently six years after his last dose of accutane. Still, at this point i'm pretty much willing to try voodoo magic to get this shit to stop, especially since it is starting to affect my hairline as well.

Scratch that, I already have tried voodoo magic... Dr. Shah's homeopathic "cure" was a great waste of $140, though the little sugar pills did taste good... Ironically though, the homeopathic people diagnosed my hair loss as alopecia areata right away whereas the medical "experts" I have been seeing tell me its either TE or MPB.

I've also quit propecia and will stay off it for six months to see if things improve, considering what i've heard about some people's hair coming back after discontinuing it. Propecia hasn't caused me any side effects so i'm not as worried about that. Just more money down the tube though.

Hey jnt867,

Thanks for the information. I find that derms tend to go for the easy way out by diagnosing patients with accutane hairloss as mph and presribe propecia and minoxidil to curb the problem. I do not believe that this is the right way for them to treat accutane hairloss victims.

By the way, does anyone here know if Evening Primrose Oil and Flaxseed Oil are good for accutane hairloss?

Max that supplement will be fine, although the ingriedient we are interested in (Proanthocyanidins) are pretty low in that product.

A lot of questions and I want to answer them fairly and accurately but I am just going on memory and opinion. Once again, its my firm belief I am bald because of accutane.

Anyway, I dont recall what happened to hair on my neck. All I know is that I immediately noticed I was losing hair. I had thick, full brown hair and I would see it accumulate on the drain in the shower and the pillow. I was a voracious reader and I would find myslef reading a book or the newspaper and their would be two hairs on every page. It was not falling out in clumps mind you but there were hairs and I didnt mind cause I had a full head of hair at the time but it was definitely coming out at an increased rate. I should add as best I recall temporary loss of hair was the axiom...it would come back, I was told.

I never suffered any effect of losing eyebrow or eyelash hair.

I still have hair on the top of my head. In fact my wife asked me many times, why do I shave it? If you rub your hand across my head, you can feel the stuble of hair. However, when it grows out it is very thin and literally grows like a chia pet...its sparse, thin and pretty unmanageable. I wouldnt say it looks like the attached picture across the bangs but it is thin.I also would say when I see a bald guy, he doesnt have hair on the top of his head. I still do and have retained that hair for years. It just looks like shit when it grows out. I also wanted to add I had chest hair and I noticed that seem to shed as well. If it matters, I was an athlete, a baseball player and had a unique slide that would often have me scraping a specific area of my leg. I noticed in my early 30's the hair that would come back was always different from the rest of my body. Though I was and remain healthy (knock wood) I really believe accutane had some profound effect on my body's hair....

I'm hugely frustrated by the fact that it seems that there are not even a single case of successful story so far (without help from any topical and oral drugs). Moreover, to make matter worst, almost no one from Accutane/Roaccutane Action Group Forum has had his or her problems solve for years, as well as those who are from topix accutane hair loss forum.

Hey, I think you may have missed the questions I asked. Did the shedding gradually stop? Also, did your hair get dramatically thinner in the first couple years, or did it get gradually thinner over the last 20?

Thanks for the replys, that all makes sense and fits in with what i was expecting (the eyelash and eyebrows thing i was epecting you to say you may have had shed at some point).

As you can see though the hairloss doesn't always affect the body, sometimes it is just limited to the scalp. This is exactly how Alopecia Areata works, we simply have the diffuse version (some people even get the typical version from accutane).

There are some things you can try if you are interested, let me know if you are.

My hair continued to shed until I am left with what I have now. When you get bald, there is little more left to shed. I still have body hair as well.

Yes, I would like any recommendations you might make Lamarr since I cling to the belief there is life in these follicles yet. What do you suggest?

And once again, this is just MY experience w/ accutane. And, it did clear my acne up dramatically. However, I stopped using in 88 and battled cystic acne until I was about 40. I do not have substantial scarring though, just mild on parts of my face. Back of neck has some moderate scarring.

MH55, your follicles are all still alive and capable of producing normal hair again. Hairs have amazing power of regeneration, each follicle has a stem cells at the base of the bulb. The underlying process which causes the hair to fall out needs to be stopped or atleast reduced, so that the follicles can begin to produce normal hairs again.

The reason i ask if you still shed from your head is that i presumed you still had hair on the sides of your head, and from what your wife said to you i thought you still had some hair left on top aswel, which would suggest there is still hair that can be shed.

Anyway, if your shedding has stopped then i would recommend different things, if you feel the underlying process is still active e.g. body hair still sheds, then you need a topical steroid of some sort to supress the inflammation and immune response, combine this with a high strength minoxidil (xandrox) and i guarantee you will see substansial hair growth.

Getting the topical steroid will be the difficult part as your doctors all believe you have normal male pattern baldness.

The high strength minoxidil (xandrox or alike) should contain atleast 12.5% minoxidil, prefferably the 15% version, you may or may not respond to this alone, but as i said in combination with a topical steroid you will see regrowth, it normally takes atleast 3 months for this though.

I have already come to terms with the fact i will likely be battleing this until a better treatment comes out for alopecia areata, as nothing currently is good enough to stop the process fully. But like i said the topical steroids for me reduces my shedding from 200-300 hairs a day to around 60-80.

The above two statements interest me greatly, the first statement i presume you mean you have no hair left on your bang area? Or did you mean something else?

Secondly what do you mean by the area that regrows was different from the rest of your body? E.g. was it the colour that differed? or the thickness etc?

This one is good, same as blazed uses.

[Edited link out]

With the grape supplements we are trying to determine whether the Proanthocyanidins block the correct cytokines or whether the resveratrol is better.

I am starting with the Proanthocyanidins, and another guy im in contact with is starting with the resveratrol, both in pretty high doses.

It is all good for you though so i wouldnt worry.

Lamarr, what are you taking that contains proanthocyanidins? GSE? My confusion comes from a previous post you made in response to one by Max which seemed to indicate that you don't think GSE contains sufficient concentrations of proanthocyanidins.

Those of you who are using some of these supplements should probably be taking them twice daily, as they are all water soluble and unabsorbed quantities will pass in your urine.

Also, if any of you notice adverse side effects or discover any from research for ANY of the supplements you are taking, please be sure to tell the rest of us (in addition to discontinuing them). While I don't think anything mentioned here has caused problems for anyone taking them, there are always exceptions (like how accutane "doesn't" cause hairloss for example...) and possible problems that emerge later on down the road.

And to mh55, that's really shitty luck. I'm sorry to hear that you've had to deal with this crap for 20 years. I certainly hope it doesn't last that long in me!

Nono, just the product max talked about didn't have sufficient amounts, if you look his has 40mg of proanthocyanidins, the product in that link has 285mg as it is 95% proanthocyanidins.

Edit: i use 1 gram of this a day aprox [Edited link out]. so thats 950mg of proanthocyanidins. They use 2000mg in thrombosis.

Wait a minute! lamar how can you diagnose mh55s hairlose as diffuse aa without even seing a photo of his hair?

It can absolutly be mpb! why tell him to take steroid shots if he dont need them.

If the hairloss looks like mpb its most likely mpb. half of the men around the world suffer that.

As for my own hairloss:

I took accutane for about 6 years ago. 3 years later I looked in the mirror and saw that the sides of my head had thinned just over a night. nothing happend for 2 years when I again saw that my back and sides was more thin. same thing 3 years later but now also top of the head was affected.

The strange thing is that all these times I recognized my hairloss was the same time of year -feb/mars.

Im also believe its tane hairloss and diffuse aa because i also got psoriasis 3 years ago which is a autoimmune disease.

I can say without a doubt if he began shedding during/just after ingesting accutane, loses hair from other parts of the body. That he most certainly does have diffuse AA.

I don't need to see a picture what he said and knowing that it was caused by accutane is plenty, he still sheds to this day and yet has hair ontop of his head still.

There is no shadow of a doubt.

Edit: i also didn't say steroid shots i mean topical steroids. There is very little risk to using them for 3-6 months to see how your hairloss responds to them.

I can't recommend a dosage that will 100% be effective. But we are going to be using around 2000mg curcumin and 300-400mg resveratrol. iherb is where you want to look, you need trans resveratrol.

I have just added resvereatrol to my grape seed extract, will report any changes soon, my hair does seem to be doing even better (shedding wise) since taking the GSE but could just be coincidence...

Don't rush out and buy any old curcumin and GSE, you need ones with high amounts of the active ingriedients.

Dolph recovered after about 4-6 months, i am still in contact with him and he says slowly but surely ALL is hair is regrowing, about a year later.

Andy is a similar situation in that his shedding stopped pretty early on but he had to wait a while for regrowth.

I have never had a problem with regrowth but i used to shed massively (about 300 hairs a day) i now still shed around 60-100 depending on the day, but i also constantly regrow, my hairline has moved back about 1-1.5 cm all the way along, the rest of my hair is about 60-70% of its original thickness.

I put this down to the use of anti inflammatories and topical steroids, i would be very much worse off without them, i know that much.

I have been shedding for about a year now.
