Moving while on Accutane

So, I have my appointment on Monday to fill out all of Accutane paperwork and for my derm to talk to me more about it. My derm was also on Accutane so she has personal experience.

However, my thing now is that I am moving halfway around the world right in the middle of my first accutane course! It is unavoidable. What should I do? Any ideas..!?

I'd wait to get settled, before starting the course.

You want to make sure you have a dr that will support your treatment, and that you don't have any gaps in getting the meds...unless you are moving to a part of the world where getting tane is easy.

I guess my thing is that I dont want to move and than have trouble finding a derm that is willing to prescribe it for me.

The thing is...you get a new prescription every month...it is not a refillable prescription...so it's not like you can move and just keep refilling it. You will have to find a new derm to prescribe it, whether you are on it already or not.

If you're right in the middle of the course, that means you'll have a month or two left when you leave?

Time the appointments so you get a month's supply just before you leave. This gives you some time to figure it out in the foreign country.

Maybe, within normal prescribing parameters, your doctor could help you unofficially stockpile meds to take with you, in essence giving you the remainder of the course to take with you.

Ask your doctor to help you out on this. What kind of place are you moving to? MAYBE your doctor can have you get the blood tests done at your new location and emailed or faxed to him/her. He/she could then somehow arrange for you to receive the med in the foreign country.

Medical information is transferred all the time. My wife was followed for an on-going chest condition when we were in Europe - she carried some Xrays and medical records with her. When follow up was needed, she found a clinic in Austria where she could get a chest Xray. The doc in Austria looked at the old Xray and the new one, read the records and decided what to do. There was no language barrier.

Take your complete dermatology records with you - including your lab work. Unless you're moving to the third world, you can very likely find a local physician who will either take on the treatment and help you finish (many/most foreign countries aren't nearly as tough on Accutane as the US is). Or that local doc may be willing to follow up on faxed or phoned information from your US doc. A few phone calls and/or faxes between your new country and the uS could make all of this a non-issue.

I wouldn't worry about it. There is a way. My friend moved across the country while on it. Talk to your derm. All my friend had to do was find another derm, continue the blood tests, and she was fine. I think that if your derm contacts your new derm everything should be fine.

All the best.

i fi were you i would wait b/c its probably cheaper to buy it where your moving too unless you have good insurance (and you are in usa)because USA pays alot more for prescriptions than all the other places so if i were you i would start finding a pharmacy where your moving to and see how much it costs...
