I recently went to my dr complaining of increased migraines and he has insisted I stop taking Yasmin and am having a lot of bloodwork done.
its been nearly two weeks and already the nodules are returning. (The headaches haven't gone either which is making me feel twice as crappy)
in the past I have tried antibiotics, and various topicals to no avail.
I don't want to go back to slathering my face with epiduo, Duac and peroxide combo with no effect when the pill clearly worked wonders for me. All those creams did was dry out and damage my top layer and made no difference to the deep and painful cysts.
i started on Yasmin in November 2015 and by march my skin was clear for the first time since my early teens.
I have asked my gp for a derm referral. But he is reluctant as my skin would not be considered bad enough for treatment.
i know I don't have pimples all over my face, my acne tends to be concentrated around my mouth. I will usually have 1-3 large nodules which take months to heal and leave red scars and bumps which don't fade. It is painful to talk, to eat , to simply be.
there must be something that can be done?
Are there any treatments I could suggest to my gp like Yasmin that don't have the associated risk of migraines?
For reference here is a photo of my chin earlier in May when I was focusing on scarring and a photo this evening of the type of acne I am starting to get again. Yasmin never changed the texture of my skin and I still had uneven surface and little pimples but I could remedy that with my skin care regime and diet.
Hey hon, here's a few suggestions.
First of all, your doctor should refer you to a derm for ANY reason you want its your body...insist or find one who will.
As for other methods, here's a few suggestions. Yaz is lower dose than Yasmine in estrogen but spironolactone might be the way to go. It won't affect migraines. I get migraines too but neither yaz nor spiro has bothered me luckily. Spiro is not a birth control pill but it often has similar effects in helping acne. Try resveratrol or cod liver oil or borage oil...any anti inflammatory.
I get so angry when doctors disregard the importance of acne like " oh just live with it". You have to be your own advocate and if you're not happy with a doctor tell them what you want.
Aside from that, try to find a skin care regimen that doesnt irritate your skin.
I get the big inflamed spots if I'm not either or oral meds or antibiotics and its no fun. You will find something that works.
Hi!
I just wanted to say, coming off Yasmin is actually a blessing, my doctor is treating a patient who has gone blind from this pill and other ladies that have come to her from long term issues created by yasmin.
I recommend seeing a nutritionist, herbalist & naturopath doctor who can balance your hormones naturally. They can work magic with natural medicines and fix it long term rather than just whilst you are on it

what did it do other?
I'd rather go back on Yasmin tbh.
I don't have money to pay for a nutritionist/herbalist whatever else. If I did I would pay for a private derm consultation and roaccutane!!!
ive woken up today with more breakouts. Id rather risk it and keep my mental state in tact.

Ah right is neve heard of Yaz!
I will ask my GP about both that and spiro but wasn't sure if a derm has to prescribe spiro?
I will look into all the anti inflame ties, thank you so much!
I think I have my skin routine pretty on point these days as well as makeup that doesn't break me out. These big angry cysts keep coming
i wish antibiotics worked for me but all they did was give me chronic IBS!
its so frustrating the way dr's disregard skin, I used to suffer with psoriasis and it was the same, I used to work in an admin position at a hospital so I know how large the derm referral wait is but I have a problem and it's not fair to be told it doesn't matter.
thanks for the reply and advice!

Sure, we don't know everything but we try to help out if we can on here
My derm did prescribe Spiro but your gynecologist could too. Birth conrtol pills do have some risk but nothing as bad as accutane.
Ugh see you never know with antibiotics. Have you tried probiotics or bone broth for IBS? My boyfriend got it from accutane. Acne really sucks.
Thank you
ive been on meds in the past unrelated to skin that have as equally risky side effects as roaccutane yet my dr wasn't fussed then!
I pretty much nipped the ibs in the bud by cutting the amount of wheat and dairy I eat, seemed to ease it off. My dr is keen for me to try tetracycline again yet I was on them for over a year last time and they did absolutely nothing.
thank you again!
Hi Guys,
Sorry for late reply! I know that Yasmin also contributed to cancer and gut problems in some of her patients, of course its totally up to you to
take whatever route you want so i dont want to scare you away from the pill, we all have to do what we feel is right to solve our acne!
I understand your fear of antibiotics, I was taking high quantities of antibitoics and also on dianette for 9 years, which has given me gut problems leading to food allergies and also stubborn acne. I also have hormone imbalances, a weak immune system and weak skin layer resulting in allergy spots! Ive had 3 doctors tell me its caused by the medications i was taking.
Im on the healing path atm and aside from herbal mixtures and supplements Nutrition from your diet can really help balance hormones, solve your IBS and acne.
Later on today ill attach some food documents for you and a skin mapping diagram, which can give you an idea as to where the problems are in the body causing the acne. It may be of some help atleast. It will only show the areas not what the actual problem is but you could use it as a starting point.
Also if you are interested ive started a support network for london meetings and skype meetings for acne. Still working on the website but you can check it here:
