I've been applying isopropyl alcohol (99%) to my nose twice a day and personally I think it's worked quite well in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide around my mouth (applied once a night).

I've got maybe 1 or 2 pustules in the last month since I started. If I do get a pustule I'll use a brown sharpie marker and just cover it up, it works quite well!

I've used hibiclens before and it didn't really do much for me. I also don't want to subject my face to such a harsh antimicrobial.

Had some promising results with bathing in dead sea salt but i will definitely give the rubbing alcohol a shot too!

I'm really scared about putting the alcohol in my nose or ears. I keep reading about how it can make you deaf or blind. How much do you guys put on?

@Canucklehead12What concentration of BP do you use and how long did it take to clear you up? Do you moisturize before applying it or after you have applied?

Thanks

I dip a q-tip into the isopropyl and swab the inside of my nose with it, I don't do anything in my ears as I rarely have pustules around there. I don't think this will make you deaf or blind.

I use acne.org's 2.5% BP and it works quite quickly for me (1-2 weeks). I only use it at night and around my mouth where pustules occur. I wash my face, apply BP, moisturize. That being said, if you're dealing with a fungal infection I don't think BP will work.

In the morning I just wash my face and then moisturize.

I also us acne.org BP and it doesnt help this particular issue for me. I have toglob iton these to dry them up a little. I do apply a thin layer twice a day all over my face to keep regular acne at bay.

Haven't been here in a while but try this,

Get Clindamycin PhosphateSuspension in Isopropyl (you can get it from your derm, generally used for folliculitis, its super cheap too, in Canada at least). Applying it to the pustules will make them go away faster, but that isn't the complete solution!

Apply it 2-3 times a day to your nostrils and ear canals. (Do this for a week, then apply just plain isopropyl alcohol for 3 weeks) .. repeat. Clindamycin won't become resistant with the combination of alcohol, but its good to cycle just in case.

Next, before you brush your teeth, use mouthwash (cetylpyridinium chloride, alcohol, zero etc). When you brush, bacteria may exit your mouth and get trapped in the beard, etc, so mouth washing before may prevent this.

Lastly, sleep on your back (this is the hardest step but probably one of the more beneficial ones)

The problem with applying alcohol or hibiclens to your whole face is that you end up killingallof the bacteria. Your skin needs a health bacterial colony. Only apply theClindamycin-Isopropyl (Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Suspension USP, 1%) to your pustules, and don't wash your face with other soaps/etc

My theory is that directly putting the combo on pustules removes them and apply it to nostrils/ears stops the source. Sleeping on your back totally prevents you spread the pus/bacteria all over your face.

good luck guys

@dreadnaughtprimeI guess what I don't understand is that how does the alcohol ensure that bacteria doesn't get resistant to clindamycin?

Also, are you completely clear now? How long did the treatment take to work?

I broke out 4 days ago finally after 3 months of good skin on my mouth in tiny pustules/whiteheads. I had taken week off from work and was eating a lot of fruits and sugary food so that could have contributed to it. However, I've noticed there are times when diet has no impact and days when it does.

The only thing i changed last week was using a mouthwash. Maybe something in that irritated my skin? I can't tell.

There are times I forget to brush my teeth before sleeping and i have noticed i tend to drool in my sleep. Maybe that is one of the reasons that bacteria accumulates around my mouth and i break out.

The worst part about this breakout is that none of us can pin point the exact reason.

Anyways, if i continue breaking out, my next step is adding BP 2.5%.

Hey everyone!

Been reading all the problems, and I've also been dealing with this issues for quite some time. Tried everything shaving differently buying all the products with anti bumps and shaving gels to try help but the problem but nothing helped even antibiotics didn't help. But, I do have some good news. I have figured that the toothpaste I am using to brush my teeth has been causing this problems all along! So please try and investing in a toothpaste which is sls fluoride free... I've been using aqueous cream sls free mixed with coconut oil as a face wash and a non comodogenic mosturizer, which is clean and clear... So far so good! My face is looking great and all the red marks or pigmentation over the years has been fading. So please every one please try out my method of getting a different toothpaste brand. In a month, halla at your boy and tell me the results!

what toothpaste are you using now?

I am trying to understand what has caused my pustules to return over the past few days after staying clear 90% for 3months. The only things that I changed were-

1) I grew out my beard. It is quite long now, almost viking type and I am wondering if this is exacerbating this issue because it maybe easier for bacteria to stick to your face.

2) I used crest mouthwash. The only reason I suspect this is because after 2 days of using it, my pustules returned. I usually never use mouthwashes.

3) I have started using paper towels instead of regular towels to dry my face.

What do you guys think? @Canucklehead12@Optimumcure

I am so close to giving BP another shot. The only reason I am refraining is because I used it improperly 10 years ago and literally damaged my skin. Just don't want to cause the same damage again but I am getting desperate again after thinking I had this under control.

How did you damage your skin with BP? What did it do?

Right now I have three pustules in one nostril although I've been swabbing them twice a day with rubbing alcohol for weeks. Two popped up around the outside of my nose and I used finacea to dry them out rather quickly and l-lysine to keep them from spreading. Hopefully they will dry up before speading more. I'm contributing it to larger than normal thanksgiving meals with more sweets than I'm accustomed to and the stress of the holiday. That and my immune system is down due to my pre monthly cycle and seasonal allergies. Any suggestions to dry them up faster inside the nostrils?

Use normal white colgate there is no sls in there. Also when you done washing your face dilute some apple cider vinegar with water use it on your face let it sit for 5 min and rinse. Then after use your moisturizer. This should work.

I have stopped using toothpaste in general and just use a herbal alternative called a miswak stick as well as a toothbrush but no toothpaste. The breakouts have receded. Let's see how it goes.

I have a bottle of dilutef apple cider vinegar sitting in my room. I only use it for my scalp acne. Might use it for my face too. I just have been using so many anti fungal anti bactetial products that i don't want to keep adding more and more. Will def try it though if things get worse. Is your acne gone now?

I understand your pain bro, yes my pimples are all gone now... After years of struggle also. One last move I need you try out. Get you a mupirocin cream or Triple antibiotic cream... Put some in your nose and ear three times a day for a month... Kill any bacteria which is inside your nose and ear which sometimes could be carrying the problem... Trust me on this bro, continue using your miswak as time goes you'll figure out what'works best for you.

I spent a few months thinking it was SLS, I tried a few different toothpastes without SLS, but in the end, when the issues decreased (based on what I described above and hibiclens) and I started with Crest again, they didnt come back.

I honestly don't think SLS has an impact. I felt like I would get caught in this anxiety trap with SLS, feeling anxious whenever I used it (like when toothpaste ran out and only normal Crest was left) and the anxiety would just make things worse. This happened to me with food as well, I lost alot of weight trying intermittent fasting, no sugar etc. if I ever ate out with friends, I would feel so anxious and scared that night/next day.

It's important you don't do this to yourself like I did, it just makes stress worse (at least for me) and I have really bad anxiety problems already. So after I was able to detach the stress from some items like SLS or carb food, I realized they had no effect

My condition basically disappeared at end of August when I had a week off. In November, I was under alot of stress and that was when it got worse. So yea, just a thought, it may get worse from the stress/paranoia caused by "googling" certain "harmful" substances and becoming convinced they are the cause when they aren't

How is everyone doing? Any updates?

My pustules are okay. I still get 2 everyday but they're minor and don't bother me much. Also, this is after I eat anything I want (except dairy). A year ago, eating any junk or high sugar food would break me out in 10 -15 pustules on chin the next day.

So I'm grateful for the skin i have now.

I still want to reach a point where my breakouts go away completely. I'm meeting with an infectionist next week to see if he can help since I get boils/pustules on my scalp, back of head and inner thigh region too. I could be dealing with a bad case of staph or something else. Let's see how it goes.

Let us know what the infection specialist says. I've never thought of seeing one.

My skin is ok since I've been swabbing with my nostrils with alcohol. Every few weeks I'm breaking out but I can get it under control in a few days. Junk food, stress, and a weakened immune system sets it off for me.

** Editing the original post ******

hey guys!

Thanks for keeping healthy discussion. I apologize for being away... I broke up with my gf and i went into depression :( so I couldnt keep track of this thread. few updates.  I am learning ways to minimize these symptoms and live with it.
6 months ago or so I developed gastritis issues (acidity) due to which doctor suggested me to cut down all acidic foods, coffee etc and prescribed prilosec (USA ...u can look up medication). And all of a sudden the symptoms are gone temporarily. I took medicine for about a month so upto 2-3 months after symptoms were low. that makes me think these are related to gut issues. so I would advise you guys to check if you also have gastritis issues when you go to your primary care doctor. I am also curious if you guys have any thyroid issues etc

whats been helping / working lately ?

Life style changes :

Breakfast : switch to fruits etc, no refined or processed foods with sugar...aka no bakery foods etc I eat whole hawaiin papaya + banana every day. Still testing if wheat toast is culprit or not. please let me know if you guys have any thoughts.

NO DIARY : This has been a huge factor. I still drink 1or 2 times a week coffe with milk but thats that. overall avoid drinking straight up milk, cheese, ice cream etc.

Lunch / Dinner : NO SPICY food, No cheese, No creamy soups etc, Again avoid all acidic foods (you can google about it). get into salads.

Damage control : Ok despite doing all these, fu*k'in zits show up on important days - so what do you do right ? depending upon your skin color get a permanent marker and color the white portion of the zits. as hilarious as it might may sound trust me it still helps avoiding getting awkward stares :) get virgin coconut oil and apply only on the zits before going to bed. Coconut oil makes them dry faster. and when u take shower next day they are gone automatically.

Proactive measures :  Identify list of things that are working for you and cycle them during the week. The virus is smarter that us, it learns us pretty quickly and adapts faster. so we can let it get used to our medicines. right now I use -

Hair condition : I noticed when my symptoms are worse I also have bad Dandruff or scalp acne issues. I apply lemon juice twice a week to hair and let it sit for 30 min. its been helping. i also apply apply cider vinegar diluted. it smells like shit but its been helping keeping dandruff at the bay.

Body and face wash - Hiblicens diluted with 50% water
night time - Neosporin ointment, AHA skin lotion (Alpha hydroxy) , cocnonut oil if white zit shows up, miracle oil (essential oil on amazon), abreva cold sores ointment (so switch among these every day).
Intake (from whole foods ) - apple cider vinegar.   Don't apply any other commercial products like neutragena etc.

Please comment with more updates on whats helping and whats aggravating it. together we can fight this menace. I am trying to build a webpage where can track these remedies so its easy to understand whats working for most of us.stay tuned. have a nice weekend you guys.

First thank you all for your posts and sharing experiences.

I am constantly developping white pus zits around mouth and chin! I started developing this about a year ago.

Symptoms

---------------

- constant small white pus zits around mouth and chin. dry up in about 2-3 days.

- few more start when one stops!

- red bumps

- redness irritation.

- All these symptoms only around nose , mouth and chin. rest of the face is clear!

- constant Dandruff also.

Didn't work : Tried following from Derm,

------------------------------------

- Doxycline Hycyclate

- Minocycline

- Differin

- Promiseb

- Zaina

- Aczone

- pretty much all steriod crap.

Remedies worked that helped a little but not cured completely

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ACV

Clay masks

Yogurt masks

Candida Diet - No sugar, No milk

ACV for dandruff.

SLS free stuff

Non flouride tooth paste

brush with sodium bi carboate (ew!)

Diet:

------

I have been eating like a monk from past 2 years,

fruits for breakfast

salads

bunch of green vegetables

yogurt once in a while.

tried candida dietfor couple of weeks which seem to clear up a bit and not complete relief.

Things next to try:

-----------------------

- Connection of these symptoms to histamine intolerance ?

- Connection of these symptoms to fungal ?

- what is the damn white pus ?

- supplements - L-Lysine, L - Glutamine

This thing brought me down so much in my life! There are days when i just sit in my room and cry because I have pretty much tried everything under the sun. I am even worried to go meet my sisters kids Please help share your expertise and what worked for you guys. Please drop a note and i really need your support to keep me motivated to see the light at the end of tunnel.

thanks!

i've got similar condition. if u smoke or use tobacco related products u should stop it.  1st  week try drinking green tea every morning afternoon and evening. it should be cured and if it doesn't than try medicine "azithromycin tablets" 500mg. once a day after light  breakfast.

I am so close to giving BP another shot. The only reason I am refraining is because I used it improperly 10 years ago and literally damaged my skin. Just don't want to cause the same damage again but I am getting desperate again after thinking I had this under control.

I've found that shaving regularly with a good electric razor has been better than growing out my beard for reducing pustules and my seb derm. And yes, it's probably because any moisturizer or topical can reach your skin better and less bacteria is caught in your facial hair.

I have used an all natural, SLS-free, paraben free etc. etc. etc. toothpaste and mouthwash for a long long time and still get issues......so i don't think it's exactly that in my case. But in the grand scheme of things it's probably best to get away from any irritants.

For me it's definitely to do with something around my mouth, as that's where the majority of these pustules crop up. I'm still having great success with swabbing my nostrils with triple antibiotic or isopropyl alcohol (see other posts about this) and applying BP at night. I've been nearly pustule free for 3-4 weeks (and pretty darn great overall for the past 3+ months) and just use a sharpie marker (black or brown) to colour in any pustules that do show up.

Personally I think my skin is compromised and it's letting bacteria infect the skin around my mouth. I'm going to continue to condition my skin and eat healthy so that hopefully one day this will allllll be over!

On a side note: I was vacationing with my dad this past week and he had a breakout on his back from an all natural sunscreen. He had quite a few pustules on his back from this (he has never had pustules ever).......which made me wonder if it's something genetic. Possibly our bodies can't quite deal with irritation on our faces as well as our parents. Food for thought.

I met with an infectionist today. She suspects either staph or mrsa. She did culture swabs on one active lesion on my back, in my nose and rectal area. She will see what type of bacteria it is and what antibiotic can eradicate it. Also gave me prescription for 2% chlorohexidene solution for 1 week and mupirocin in nose 3 times a day for 1 week.

If the cultures shows mrsa or any infection, they will call me and see how we can decolonize it. If no infection then next appointment is in february.

She thinks i could have picked up an infection when i used to go to the gym in 3 years ago which is when the problem started on my body.

guys i think this type of acne is caused by high cholesterol/triglycerides due to a vitamin c deficiency. Vitamin c is needed to convert cholesterol to bile acids (which is used to eliminate fat soluble chemicals hormones toxins etc), and steroids including cortisol which is crucial for inflammation and blood sugar regulation...we could all just be suffering from mild scurvy.

get your blood tested asap OP im 99.9% sure your lipids are FUCKED. get vitamin c tested as well.

im going to try sodium ascorbate + lysine & proline protocol. lots of kiwis oranges lemons as well.

Vitamin C is an important cofactor for both adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla

Ascorbic acid is a cofactor required in adrenal steroidogenesis

Vitamin A: Not Required for Adrenal Steroidogenesis in Rats

Previous work supporting the vitamin A dependency of adrenal function in rats neglected to take into account a secondary effect of the deficiency, a decrease in hepatic ascorbic acid biosynthesis. Vitamin A-depleted rats maintained on a diet free of ascorbate had a decrease in the activity of adrenal 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, and extensive adrenocortical degeneration. The use of an ascorbate supplement prevented the symptoms. The results suggest that previous evidence for direct involvement of vitamin A in steroidogenesis may have been due to the production of a secondary deficiency, a chronic scorbutic condition.
