Just like to update my experience on this regimen again. I'm 5 weeks in and have noticed great improvement. However, I've been back at uni for a week now, my food is catered (and processed shit), late nights, takeaways, going out/alcohol, stressing over upcoming exams have lead to a few breakouts yesterday and today on my cheek. Not bad breakouts though, they are small red bumps which don't really hurt. I put it down to the fact that I am eating processed food which has dairy. Interestingly enough, my bowels have been shocking over the last few days, gassy, cramping, loose stools.

So I don't think this is a perfect regime, for me, but I have had some great results. Last week I felt the most confident I've felt in ages, skin soft, 96% clear and felt much healthier. I think this goes hand in hand with a good diet, free of toxins in the form of processed food, allergens and refined sugars/fructose.

I agree, probiotics can truly help your entire system function better, including your immunity. I take them and also eat fermented cabbage or drink kefir. They all help replenish the good bacteria in your gut. My "digestive health" has been very good for most of my life because my mother always believed in eating beneficial bacteria.

But I got acne, anyway.

I don't believe that probiotics are the cure for every case of acne, but it's so worthwhile for the rest of our bodies and overall well-being that you'd be crazy not to take them. It can only support creating a healthy immune system (which I have, thankfully), which can help you fight acne.

I am 1 month in and my skin is still much worse than when I began. I ran out of probiotics today and will not buy more. I will continue using everything else since I already bought it. Oh well - once again got my hopes up too high.

Ive just ordered these exact products on the off chance that this works :D

I'll be following the exact 'regimen' as such of the OP, and plan on updating twice a week until they run out (1 months supply)

I'll be updating once they come through!

I've been doing this for just under 3 weeks now with no improvements so far. I have had a small breakout on my face, which is worrying as dan's regimen keeps me clear in this area (using this regimen particularly for my bacne). Thankfully the breakout seems to be dying down now.

As mentioned by others, the fibre does not taste great. I just mix it with water and drink it as quickly as possible. The only other thing to note so far it that I think the oil on my face has decreased slightly, which I think may well be down to the zinc. Anyway, I will be sticking with this for at least a few more weeks so hopefully things start improving for me.

I was on a Raw food diet (NO CHEATING AT ALL - no salt no sugar) for about more than 6months or so, then I went on a steam and boil fish and vege diet, once again no salt and no sugar for up to 2 years altogether.

During this period of time, I didn't use any supplements nor exercised much, but I was happy with the way my skin was... breakouts were still there, but overall, my face could still see people with light makeup.

However, I realized that it made me socially awkward and it just wasn't sustainable.

So I decided to implement some supplements while cheating in terms of eating a little. The moment I started eating pizza and what not, the breakouts intensified, and the supplements barely helped control it.

I took EVERYthing: basically spent about more than $500 on supplements.

1. Multivits

2. Saw palmetto

3. Zinc

4. Niacinamide

5. Psyllium husk

6. Probiotics

7. All sorts of cleanses - parasite, colon, liver etc U name it, I bought it

It was all from good quality brands like Garden of Life, etc and I even took Vit D3... currently taking the liquid form (my last form of hope)

then I recently just started taking Spiro and Accutane. I stopped the Spiro cause it broke me out SO BADLY right after day 1?? and I knew it was a temporal solution anyways. Accutane is currently breaking out. I'm so lost as to what to do anymore...

Nothing seems to cure acne. NOTHING.

Even something does, then I would probably have to expend so much energy that I might as well live with acne... it's like a bleak situation?!! I am so frustrated...

Here are some things that HELPED me acne, you could try and see if they can maintain your acne, but as for me, they definitely helped, but not cured it:

1. NOW anti-candida (I remember taking this for 2 weeks or so and during those 2 weeks, there was a regularity to my breakouts, they were very minimal, but I ate whatever I wanted)

2. Paula's choice AHA and BHA exfoliants... made my skin alot smoother and clearer, faded my red marks

3. Vit D? I'm not too sure about this.. but when I was on Vit D, I think my skin didn't get SO BAD. But this is just an assumption... don't place your hopes like I did.

Accutane is just breaking me out right now... sadly.

Opps I think I got carried away. My point to this post is I guess I sort of tried this routine? I had my probiotics, B-complex, and zinc satisfied, the only thing that I didn't add was fiber I guess (but I was taking psyllium husk)?

I don't think this is a long term cure either... Think about the people who don't do any regime and have flawless skin -.-

Great post Bigphil. My homeopathic doctor recommended probiotics to me years ago.

One other addition that may be beneficial is a full spectrum digestive enzyme. Even if you eat the best foods, if your digestive system isn't functioning up to par, it won't be able to fully break down the foods to utilize the valuable nutrients. This is where the digestive enzymes will help.

Hi, I'm new here, first day to site :) I have a couple of questions about somethings mentioned in this great thread, that is giving me lots of insight and inspiration! Can you tell me what a "full spectrum digestive enzyme" is, something I could find at a health/natural store? Any brand names you know of?

Reading that my digestive issues could be one of the things leading to my moderate to severe acne at the age of 33 was a definite light-bulb moment! I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and also have chronic pain issues, which means I need to take narcotic pain relievers daily, which leads to unimaginable constipation! I see a huge correlation between the toxins building up in my body + the toxins I intake daily (meds), and the increase of my acne. Has anyone who suffers chronic constipation tried the regimen laid out by the OP? Would a digestive enzyme help with the constipation? Just havent heard of this before or how to go about finding some.

I know getting the toxins out of my body would help in many many ways, even with my increasing acne, just worried about what adding the fiber and probiotics would do to my body. I'm thinking just start small and build up. Any guidance would be very appreciated!

hey guys, new here... i joined this forum mainly because of this thread.

i carefully read all 6 pages and to be honest it's one hell of a roller coaster. at first it gets your hopes up, great motivation and sense of "cure" but along the pages and time lapse many people who have tried this regimen seem to have been disappointed. yes i know that not everyone's body is the same and this might work for only some and not all, just like some prescribed and non prescribed treatments.

now a quick question... how many of you have tried this regimen and can vouch for it? not only as a "temporary fix" to acne but as a solution?

im 25 years old, in my teens i had few to none breakouts, my break outs started when i turned 22, my face, back and chest were the main target. after spending lots of money on dermos and proactive etc treatments nothing has worked, so ima join the bandwagon and try this out. i'll keep you guys posted.

Week 2 down using Fiber, Zinc, daily multivitamin, and Gr8-Dophilus probiotic.... no improvement. Hasn't gotten dramatically worse, I would say no change really.

*sigh*

Hi guys,

Valid points all around.

I'm just about to start roaccutane tomorrow after a huge episode with Tretonin.

Just curious to know if I should wait after the 3 months or start OP's regimen? In past, Roaccutane has cleared up everything but like everyone else, I really don't wanna be taking all these antibiotics forever and applying so much stuff on my face.

Would there be any impacts on one vs the other? I do really want to try this regimen out.

Thoughts?

I'am on week... I don't know maybe 5. It did not improve my acne but I still do it for health. Actually my acne did improve but I think it's because of the tretinoid cream I use. This regimen may also help though I don't know. And I'm not gonna change anything to try to figure out what works because it's the first time in 21 years something works so I won't take a chance! lol

This is all very intriguing, but obviously people are having mixed results. I'm curious, of those of you who have tried it, how many of you are male and how many are female? I'm wondering if there is a correlation between the success/failure of this method and gender.

I read this thread about a week and a half ago. I added a one-a-day, fiber, and a probiotic to my diet. I was already taking a vitamin B, as it is good for balancing out your mood. If you are prone to depression or social anxiety, I highly recommend taking a B supplement, regardless of acne condition.

So far the results are promising. My acne from the week before is gone, however I had a new breakout of three zits Monday. I attributed it to my tendency to eat unhealthy and drink a lot of beer on the weekends I go hang out with friends. There was a section on my forehead which started to breakout but cleared up quickly too.

My opinion of this regimen is that it should help, but it may not be the cure for everyone. I also cut back on caffeine, and that definitely helped clear me up. I also don't drink during the work week (not sure if alcohol is a factor for me, it's more that I hate feeling dehydrated on the morning of a work day. also the types of beer i like to drink stress my system).

I have just ordered;

and;

[Edited image out]

I have been following a strict paleo diet for three months now. the KP on my arms and buttocks have cleared, but my face is still giving me outbreaks, although not as bad as previously.

I very much suspect my digestive system, (as an aside my tongue has a very deep line running the length of it which in Trad Chinese Med, means a weak digestive system) and i have always had trouble with my stomach. So i intend to cut portion size (Perricone recommends between 2-4oz of protein at each meal), i have been eating lots more than that and putting a strain on my digestive system that way, ie overeating.

So small portion sizes, continue with paleo, continue taking the 50mg zinc and omega three supplements, but add in the strong probiotic and the fibre.

I definitely think this will help!

6 week update: The breakout on my face has totally cleared and my bacne is improving also. Will give it another couple of weeks, which will take me to the 2 month mark, before I make any final decisions on this. Looking promising at the moment though so hope this improvement continues.

Week 3 update:

Breakouts occurring more frequently on forehead and chin-line. (May be due more to my relapse after Accutane now becoming more prominent, and not the regimen's ineffectiveness)

Sucks.

I've not yet finished reading this thread, but I'd like to tell everyone about a book that I view as the Bible of nutritional information. It's called Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Fifth Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC. (For some reason, the hyperlink option of this site isn't working. And even directly pasting the link into this post isn't working. Sorry about that.)

This book covers every supplement/vitamin discussed in this thread. The author notes that if a person's body doesn't seem to respond to/benefit from acidophilus, then bifidobacteria (e.g., bifidobacterium longum and bifidobacterium bifidum) is likely the better option.

And now I shall continue reading this thread. :D

All the best,

Jenk

id also like to forwarn you guys/gals that fiber does not taste great. i take alot of protein and amino acid drinks that have citric sweeteners, taste aweful but i dont mind them. i love chocolate protein shakes, i actually crave them. some people gag at the idea and cant hardly drink them. anything worth doing isnt easy to do. ive noticed by using room temp water versus warm water the taste is easier to deal with. the now fiber 3 is much easier to drink because it doesnt get clumpy like some. also mix it, and take it. drink the damn thing right away. then refill your glass and drink another to 1 get enough water for the fiber and 2 get rid of any taste.

im not trying to scare anyone like its the most horribly aweful thing, it isnt, but those made it easier to stomach at 6am for me so i thought i would share. the biggest is room temp water. cold water first thing in the morning will give you cramps and the fiber doesnt mix as well. it tastes like they put the ingredients to 12 grain bread in your water. so thats kind of the aftertaste to expect. i could care less, but there are many weak stomached people.

Hi Bigphil! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I was wondering, do you know of any women who have done this routine successfully? I wonder because for me, it's clearly a hormonal problem linked to my period, and I wonder how much improving my digestive system will affect that. I'm pretty ignorant about things like this, so I'd appreciate your insight! Thanks!

hi bigphil,

what u said is absolutely true, i started suffering from acne probably around 25, now i'm 30, i tried every single thing, antibiotics, tropical gels, creams.......u know, every single thing...some people did mention the inner health thing, how to watch what i eat and stuff, i really didn't like that, i really didn't want to give up chocolate and other yummy things, and i still believed it's deeper than that, i believed that food has nothing to do with it, so, i went on and on on a research journey, i promised myself i will find the cure, it just didn't make sense for me, why would i break out now, i'm not a teenager, i'm freaking 30, so, i started taking birth control pills, i was like, maybe my acne is related to hormones, so unfortunately, i missed up my normal regular hormones by taking the pill, the result was, my face exploded with cystic acne, like never before, and the deep scaring was soooo aweful, then i decided to undergo the laser profractional treatment to get rid of the scars, that treatments was soooo painful, more painful that delivering a baby!!! with all the numbing cream on my face, i still felt all the pain...and i've been on Monodox for like 4 month now, and i'm taking the highest dose ever....u know what happened though, my freaking acne is getting more stubborn than ever, bigger and more immune...that's the problem with antibiotic, it makes the break out stronger and more immune...but, u know what, after coming across this web page, sir, u sure gave me hope, i immediately went and bought the vitamins u talked about, i can't wait to give it a shut, but i have one question for u:

1. can i take everything u r taking, like for example, u mentioned the fiber contains alot of proteins, probably u need these proteins because as i understood u r a bodybuilder or something like that, so, is it ok for me to take that Now fiber? i'm not working out in the moment, so, should i look for another fiber that doesn't contain alot of protein? i'm taking one a day woman, it includes an additional feature, skin health, and i'm taking fish oil, i didn't take zinc yesterday yet, because i wanna start gradually, i've never took vitamins before, so, i really don't wanna take bunch of vitamins all at once....

and then, my other question:

2. can i take, the women multivitamin, the zinc, the b complex, all at once?

3. and, why do u take two probiotic a day? should i take two as well....

4. and what do u think of Zinc For Acne? i found it at vitamin world? is it as same as the regular Zinc tablets?

plz give me answers to my questions as soon as u see my reply...i really can't wait...i'm pretty excited for finding the answers...

thx for all the information u provided...it will change my life dramatically....i'm sure of it..

I am currently two months in to perfectly clear skin. I have started to wear hats, eat sugars and dairy again and i go to the gym 4 days a week and sweat my @ss off. None of this effects my skin any longer. If you dont have time to read the whole thing skip to the last parts for what i call my personal "cure" to adult acne.

Ive had acne since 14, im 29. I started off with whiteheads, then in at the end of highschool went from not only 3-5 whiteheads every morning to a few deep large cystic type pimples every week. I shave my head and get acne on the top of my head, and i get acne on my chest and sometimes shoulders. I got a great job at 21 and had lots of money to go pay for every and any magical acne cure i saw advertised.

Here is a list of products/brands i have tried and will never use on my face again and i believe do not work and the chemicals can and will do damage in time.

Skin Id

Proactive

Murad

Stiefel

clean and clear

Acne.org regimen

Ive used others but forgot exactly the names, some were over $200 for 1 month. ohh the dumb things i did for hope.

I used proactive the longest because from 23-25 i had hardly any acne and life was good and proactive kinda worked about 85% of the time which i thought was ok.

I am now a health nut because i love going to the gym and want to make it count. I was told that there can be an allergy to food during adulthood that causes acne so i stopped dairy because it makes my stomach hurt sometimes now that im older, i stopped sugar, bread, flour, basically started a gluten free diet. i even stopped eating fruits high in sugar. and i love ice cream more then my dog, and i love sugar more then life itself.

Here is what i started doing that "helped", which let me to question why when it only "helped"

Over the course of 2 years my skin changed badly, any chemicals burned my skin, stuff that before didnt phase it. i knew chemicals were no longer a solution. i would put on the proactive wash and my face looked like i was choking it was soo red. I knew i had to look for something better.

I started taking a mulitvitamin, zinc, fish oil and vitamin b complex. The zinc and fish oils did help alot for the quality of my skin over my whole body, and for me the vitamin b seemed to help keep pimples smaller. After not using chemicals i realized i had oily skin, not dry skin which i though i had from the chemicals destroying it. The zinc stopped all oily skin problems with just 1 50mg tablet per day. All these helped but i still had acne. So something else had to be causing it.

So here is where the path to my "cure" started. I found Dermify, it helped but was not the cure. It is hands down the best thing i have ever used and its natural/organic. my skin is soo soft, and now that i dont have acne i can touch it, and feel how great it is and not get pimples from touching my face. I was a preteen the last time i could say that, about 15 years..... dermify and those supplements listed cut down my acne, my skin felt better but i still had acne. all of a sudden i started to have less whiteheads and more cystic acne. so i went to nonstop research mode. in my seach for cystic acne i came across many different issues but there was a flashing spot light that is the big #1 problem. So here it is, the leading cause of adult acne, especially adults who use or have used any prescription drugs which i have not......POOR DIGESTIVE HEALTH!!! The average american eats soo much meat and carbs and eats in 1 year on average the amount of fiber their body needs in 1 month. bread is not fiber, not in the amounts you need so dont say "i eat my fiber" you dont.

The cure is not in your food intake, but in your digestive tract and your BM's. after 1 week taking fiber you will be able to see everytime you #2 that you were not healthy in your digestion. the foods you eat DO NOT CAUSE ACNE, unless you have a reaction to them. I know for some people sugar can cause acne because of candida. there are many food allergies out there, many of them can cause acne, but those are more rare. But, its safe to say almost everybody has poor digestion.

There is tons of info to read about that, but here are the two items that taken every day WILL cure your adult acne, and probably for that matter all acne.

the first is a quality fiber, not physillium. Try the NOW brand Fiber 3 that has omega 3's in it, the second step and most important is PROBIOTICS. I have tried 3 different types the one that i like is a pill from the NOW brand called GR8-dophillous. you keep it in the fridge after opening to keep its potency but if you need to travel it still works not cooled. i normally take the amount i need and put them in a different bottle for the trip.

Here is my new daily regimen. I wake up walk to the fridge get out 1 probiotic pill, mix up a cup of fiber and use the fiber drink to swallow the pill. fiber makes your body need water so i drink 1 more glass 2 if you can take it. You need to drink room temp water because cold water is hard on your stomach and the probiotic pill. then i wash my face. right after dinner i take my supplements, a couple hours after eating dinner when my stomach is empty i take 1 more probiotic pill with a glass of water and wash my face and go to bed. that is it.

i suggest you take the supplements as well because they have worked great for me. the fiber is about 12 dollars per month, the probiotics are about 7 per month. dermify is 30 per bottle but lasts over 3 months per bottle when it says a 1 month supply. all my other supplements cost around 7 dollars a month from walmart. they are more expensive but have 3-5 month supplys.

overall my acne...wait i dont have acne any longer, face care is...$36. give or take, it is cheaper then that now because i have found places to get supplements in larger quantities which make them very cheap. it is more like 30 bucks. and if you dont need the zinc or vitamin b, or feel that omega'3 in fish oil isnt needed (google it, you need it) it will be closer to 23-25. that is cheap in comparison to most regimens.

On my gym days i wash my face three times. I have used the crappy gym soap on my face, axe body wash on my face, a towel for almost a week, bad smelly well water, and none of it has given me breakouts. all these little things i thought caused my acne were all bogus, i had great skin, i just had to find it.

I had to share this information. Google probiotics and fiber cure for acne, or probiotics cure for acne. i think they are trying to hide this from us. it is a known fact, but yet how many of us know this? I have 2 friends i started on this regimen. both acne free in less then 3 weeks. one had very mild acne, the other had cystic acne and horrible body acne. worked for both.

go forth, fix your digestive problems and feel better, get way more energy, and wake up every morning as i still do, walk to the mirror, and smile like you just had the best sex of your life because there is not one $#%#$%^'ing pimple on your sexy little face.
