Kimmy, did you get the pills to start today!?

Interesting to hear your insurance was kind of whack about the dosage amount! I wonder though if there is any benefit to every other day taking it or what not, because I see about 30% of people doing that.... :)

Yeah it was kinda strange... I too am anxious to see how taking it every other day works, personally I am hoping for less side effects.

Day 7:An old cyst finally came out to play... I went and got it injectedabout an hr ago so it's pretty red and angry right now. I just can't sit around and wait for these things to heal when an injection only puts me back $40 (which covers up to 8 cyst injection sites), call me crazy...but I'd rather spend money on my skin then on daily coffee runs for the month. lol. So far my skin is a little dry today; which is good news because that means the medicine is starting to work. My derm says "you want to get dry skin and lips because it means it's working" so bring it on i guess?I got my hydration station ready...side effects today; dry throat, dry nose (inside), and a wee bit dryer skin. Hair still feels slicker than normal. How are you ladies and gents feeling today...?? Hope everyone is doing well!

P.S. I swear by VaniPly Ointment for lips. My lips are still so so soft and hydrated thanks to this stuff! You can have your pharmacy special order it (you dont need an rX for it!)

Day 10....Another new cyst came out to say hi... ! Got an injection today for it as well. It's pretty big! About 5.5mm (including surrounding inflammation) talk about painful! No skin dryness, nor lip dryness to report of but I am still treating them as if they are! I know it's coming. My body is feeling just fine, and nonoticeable side effects other than what I've reported last time. <3

Day 10 for myself also! I too have had a few new cysts, but I am definitely feeling side effects. Pretty sore back and ankles. That'd be pretty cool if you just tanked through Accutane without any big side effects! :new_smiley_0: Keep plugging along and say positive!

Wouldnt that be funny! I doubt it though. When I am not wearing my VaniPly ointment my lips are starting to tingle and burn, so I think they WANT to dry out, but I am doing my best to not let that happen! LOL. I have a new cyst that popped up on Wednesday and I got it shot up yesterday but stupid me tried to get some of the whitehead gunk out that it formed after the injection - big mistake! Now I will be sitting at home all day with ice packs and hydrocolloid bandages. What a fantastic Friday! :P I feel achy all over but I kinda always feel that way I think lol. So not sure if I can attribute it to a side effect. Day 11! Here we go. Just popped my first pill with toast topped with avocado and tomatoes plus sea salt! Divine!

Day 15! Times flying by.

Side effects:
Back ache/body aches
Very dry scalp/dandruff issue (almost like I burnt my entire scalp and its peeling away; not pretty!) I have since ordered some new shampoo to address this issue.
Some mild pink flushing to the skin
Oilier than normal (subsided 12 days in)
Chest pains (mild)
Headache (once)
1 New cyst (healed)
1 New zit (75% healed)
A couple new clogged pores
No dry lips (been using Vaniply ointment and Bite Beauty Masque)
Skin is still not drier than "my normal" (using Eminence Stone Crop line)

All in all, things are well!

So far my red marks have been healing! But this could also be because of the products I am using; Eminence Stone Crop line (which helps deal with hyperpigmentation too). What dosage are you on?

-----------------

Accutane update // Month 2 begins today!

I had my 1 month follow up today with my derm, and was bumped up to 60mg a day (so two, 30mg pills per day)...! Skin has been getting drier, but my lips are not dry because I apply the Vaniply ointment religiously. However, if they dont have anything on them they burn like crazy (like right after a shower). No cystic acne since March 14th... extremely thankful for that! Just some pustules and papules that come and go (I still dot the tinniest amount of BP/clindamycn on these spots).... my derm said it was okay as long as its a tiny, tiny dot.

Side effects:
Body aches (back, legs, heels) // comes and goes
Dry hair/scalp
Dry, flaky facial skin in spots
Dry hands
Eye dryness (occasionally) / I wear contacts too

Pretty crazy how in sync our courses are! I just came home from my 1 month follow up today as well! I'm happy to hear your cystic spots have subsided and wish you the best of luck in your months to come!

Month 3 officially begins tomorrow.

Side effects:
"Achy bones" (not muscle soreness) - back, lower legs, and heels... Nothing has helped combat this except heating pads.
Dry skin but my moisturize is working phenomenally to combat this (Eminence Stone Crop)
Dry lips, but again my ointment is working so well they haven't had the chance to ever dry up or peel (Vaniply ointment)
Occasionally mild headaches (3 or 4 in the last month) most likely due to dehydration
Dry hair (been using Muddy Body hair masque and Acure Scalp Treatment which are really helping)
Dandruff has subsided
Dry legs and arms -- been using VaniCream for this

Acne:
I got my first zit two weeks ago since the start of accutane -- but nothing cystic since the start -- this was a normal white head. And since I've gotten two more. Other than this, a few clogged pores on my chin and cheek. I've had some facial flushing around my chin but nothing makeup can't cover! Speaking of which, makeup literally stays on my skin so well right now. No need to ever re touch! So that's a perk!

All in all things are going well and I am happy with my skins progress!

Month 4 started yesterday 06/06!

Been upped to 80mg per day (so two 40mg pills, morning and night) I am still taking my accutane as prescribed - with fat (almond butter, avocados, olives, etc.) I think it's key to the drugs absorption and effectiveness.

Side effects:
Achy bones and joints - back, knees, heels, and legs
Drier skin -- but tolerable (mostly on my arms and chin)
Dry lips -- but they haven't been without vaniply ointment for more than 10 min in the last 4 months! So they never chap over. I can still wear lipstick over the top too.
Hair is growing faster on my scalp and my hair is no longer dry thanks to Muddy Body's hair masque and I got a Keratin Treatment done in early May.
Facial flushing after washing my face and working out -- not terrible, takes 30 min to calm down. Looks like I got a nice little suntan!
Any dry skin that I peal off leaves a red mark, so I am resisting the urge to pick off the dry skin. Everything takes longer to heal on this medication.

Acne wise: every other week I have been getting a small clogged pore with a teeny tiny white head on it, it drys up and pops right out of my skin. I hope the 80mg will kick these for good! Other than that, all is so so well. Thankful for this experience.

Hope everyone is doing well <3

Month 5 starts today (07/11) on 80mg!

Side effects:
Achy bones and joints - back, knees, heels, and legs
Fatigue - this is new for me in the last few weeks - napping every few days (not normal for me!)
Drier skin -- but tolerable (mostly on my arms and corners of chin)
Hair is still growing faster on my head and legs
Facial flushing after washing my face and working out
Disorientated - brain fog feeling - new for me in the last few weeks too.
Still getting a few tiny clogged pores that pop up every few days, but they are not noticeable to anyone but myself!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below! :)

Month 6 started 08/11 and still on 80mg

Side effects:
Achy bones and joints (alwaaaays)
Fatigue comes and goes
Insomnia is a new one - been having some trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, sometimes awake for 2-3 hrs in the middle of the night
Facial flushing isn't too bad this month
Still getting 1-2 clogged pores (teeny tiny) every few days - but they go away in a day or two.

I don't know anything about your media consumption habits, but for me, shutting down all electronics at least an hour before bed helped me fall asleep faster and stay asleep. There is no doubting by this point that illuminated screens throw off our ability to sleep, and I feel as if that fact combined with the possibility of our eyes being more sensitive to light on the course is a recipe for disaster. If you give it a try one night and it works lemme know. It really has helped me and I am trying my best to avoid those damn screens an hour before bed.

Thanks for the advice! I try to spend the last 30 min of my day just hanging out and talking with my husband as we lay in bed. Luckily the insomnia has since gone away since we last spoke. Was a 3 week long stint.

Hope you are doing well and the school year is going great so far!

Month 7 - 80mg

Side effects:
Back aches
Fatigue
Dry skin (obviously :))
Dry lips (see above)
Brain fog

About 4 small clogged pores in the last 4 weeks, so not too bad.

I will do 80mg during this 7th month and cut down to 40mg for my last and final month. I will be done Nov 14th!

Hi, how's your skin looking now compared to the beginning of the course? And was your acne mild, moderate or severe back then?

Hey there, sorry this is such a late response - i am offically post accutane as of Feb 07th, I slowly weaned off by taking the medication every three days in the last month. My acne was pretty severe last year (just on my chin), accutane cleared me up immediately and kept me clear aside from a few clogged pores throughout treatment. Since last week however I've been getting clogged pores on my forehead and cheeks (which is unusal for me) I am hoping this is just a quick transition phase from being off the medication. Ive started using some salicylicacid again to help mildly exfoliate my skin since a small amount of accutane is still in my system.
