Hello everyone, I would appreciate anyones experience or knowledge on this.
I am dealing with quite stress from my dermatologist:
First of all I came in as a patient that just had moderate acne: 4-5 pimples but theres constantly a new one everyday the one heals. And some could be big and inflammatory.
So he starts me off at 20mg which I felt was way too low for me weighing in 160lbs and tells me to do blue light treatment while on the accutane to avoid the breakouts. He gives me a great deal: 100 dollars for 10 blue light treatments instead of like 600 and it didn't seem like he was doing it just to get an extra dollar, I mean whats 100-200 dollars to a doctor?
He had a great reputation and he persuaded me so I agreed then I came home, did my research and saw that there is almost no one on the internet or any doctors that recommend this method. I then came to the conclusion I rather do my accutane course the regular way which seems to be successful for more people and not add anything unnecessary or that could possibly harm me to the mix. (something I might regret.)
I go month 2 and my acne is pretty much the same, hasn't got worst or better, in fact my chin acne diminished but I got MINOR acne on my forehead and one pimple in between the eyes, something I didn't come with. Really no big deal or anything I was concerned with.
He then claims because of "no improvement" (which I dont believe the majority of people see improvement in 1 month) he will increase me to 40mg and if "I start breaking out" call him. He again tells me get on blue light and his assistant is there and offers me the deal again and me being concerned about my acne not improving I agree again.
I go home, and start stressing the blue light therapy thing and immediately cancel and apologize for canceling twice in a row.
Now I'm stressed because I think the doctors probably offended at this point thinking I don't trust him, and don't know if he's going to find a reason to pull me off the drug or keep me at the same dosage or lower me, because now I'm breaking out worst since I've been stressed about the situation.
I wanna know, if worst comes to worst could I possibly just get a new dermatologist and continue the course immediately or would it be a hassle? If it's a hassle when I go see him for the start of month 3, could I cancel appointments with him, move to another that won't keep insisting on his blue light and making me feel bad about my acne not improving over 1 month and continue accutane from 3 month with another doctor?
Sorry for the ranted, this situations just being stressing me so much lately, appreciate it everyone.
Hi! I know this is kind of late in the game to be replying, but I'm wondering if your MD ever increased your dosage more? I'm 110lbs and I take 50mg daily. I was also concerned about the blue light therapy he was recommending...I know its considered safe but my dermatologist told me to stop doing anything else to my skin (except moisturize) until I'm off the medication because it will make your skin very sensitive.
I really hope everything worked out for you!!
Sure you can change derms whenever you want. You just need your new derm to approve of your accutane treatment and you will be fine to continue your treatment. I dont know your medical plan. My employer had a contract with Kaiser, so I could always change to a different Kaiser derm/doctor if I did not like them.
