Hello everyone, I have moderate acne around my mouth and chin area at the age of 24. I was tired of dealing with it so I went on my second course of accutane. I'm 165 pounds and my doctor started me off at 20mg and said he would want me to do blue light for 10 weeks WHILE on accutane in order to avoid Initial break outs. He even offered me a deal of 150 dollars for the 10 treatments instead of 550.
I have never heard of light therapy and accutane being used together (since it makes your skin more sensitive) and I have a couple red marks/scars that I don't want to run the risk of damaging with while being on blue light while on accutane.
Now on my 2nd month visit to get my blood work he tells me that my acne hasn't improved (which it usually doesn't until later) and that i'm getting forehead pimples (which im not concerned with cause there just regular pimples and i never scar/prolong redmark on my forehead. He advises me on the blue light again and raises me to 40mg saying that he would've gone higher but he doesn't want to risk of me getting an IB since im breaking out from 20mg. (I'm breaking out more or less the same than when I was before accutane tho, just more on my forehead but just one here and there.)
He did tell me that if the 40mg was to make me break out a lot to stop it immediatly and call me so it seems like he cares. The guy seems like a nice, cool guy and I want to trust him but I just have simply never heard of these two things being used together.
Guys can you please help me? I have until next week to cancel my appointment so input would be greatly appreciated on what you think is the smart decision. I'm not breaking out that bad and don't feel theres need for the blue light but I don't want to offend the doctor which might lead to him not giving me the right dosages of accutane on my later months. (I want him to move me up to 60mg next month)
Please help and tell me if it's ok to do the blue light because the price isn't the issue, I'm just scared of it damaging red marks or my skin.
You know that's a really good point. It's just that I've done my research on google and have never seen blue light and accutane used at the same time, that's my only real issue so I'm scared it might make a red mark permanent or do damage to my skin.
I just don't want to regret anything but at the end of the day I think you may be right, he does seem like a good doctor and has above average reviews, once again it's just the fact I haven't heard of the practice being used by anyone else.
Really appreciate the reply!!
Just tell him your concerns, it's the safest way. A dermatologist told me recently that should I go on Roaccutane, she wants me on Doxycycline for 3-4 weeks before Roaccutane, in order to avoid the initial breakout. Ask him about this too, see what he thinks.
thanks for answering appreciate it! Yes I did ask him and he says its the most effective way but im going on my 2nd month now and am on 40mg weighing 160 pounds. He says he didn't put me on 60 because he felt i would break out without the blue light theraphy.
He says I should do it but I haven't seen any documentation or anyone saying that it is safe to do blue light and accutane at same time. Plus I have red marks that I dont want to risk making permanent by doing this procedure.
