Hi all,
I'm Jess (21 years old) and this is my third time Roaccutane - not because it didn't work, I was just too lazy to keep up with the monthly hospital visits etc. Anyway, it turns out this time that I don't have to go back on a monthly basis and have the pregnancy tests (FAB news). You know what they say, third time lucky!!
So i'm now coming up to the end of my third week on Roaccutane and taking a dosage of 60mg a day. I've found that up until now, my experience so far has been fairly straightforward, however today I'm struggling a little bit.
My face and lips are very dry - which is fine, I can cope with that. Although, I do wish I could go to work without any make up on as I just look awful by around midday, but definitely not confident enough to do that. My eyes are also very dry and becoming more sensitive to the light.
The one side effect that is really grinding my gears is that my skin is so incredibly itchy on my arms, hands, face, scalp, chest and back. I literally just want to claw at it. I'm sure lots of people experienced this but I was wondering how people ease this?
Anyway this website has really helped me before treatment and during treatment, so if there's any way I can help others too - that would be fab.
Jess x
Hi there!
Could I ask if you ever got an initial breakout on any of your courses? Because I am waiting for it to strike (and hoping it strikes hard and passes by quickly).
As for the itchiness, I haven't felt any itchiness except for my scalp! I can't imagine feeling it all over my body as well. I bought the Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair and it has helped with my dry patches on the back of my hands. I did some research regarding the itchy scalp last night because I couldn't sleep due to it and I read that Jojoba oil helps! Apparently you shouldn't wash your hair as much being on this drug, especially if you have an itchy scalp cause it will dry it out even more. Some even say that you can skip the shampoo and just go to conditioner!
A lot of people also say that the Neutrogena T Gel or Head & Shoulders will help BUT there's lots of controversy over it because the Neutrogena T Gel was made to decrease sebum production or something and it will just dry your scalp even more, and for the H&S, it shouldn't be used because it's technically not dandruff. But the common agreement on what helped would be the Jojoba oil or any type of oil.
Good luck!
