I've had acne for almost 3 years now, and after trying what feels like everything under the sun (antibiotics, topicals, a million different face washes/anti-acne products, natural stuff, harsh chemicals etc.) I've finally decided to bite the bullet and go for accutane. The NHS had a 6-month waiting list where I live just to see a dermatologist so unfortunately I've decided to go private but I had my appointment yesterday and got the medication same day. I didn't have to have blood tests as the derm said he'd never seen abnormal tests in all the years he'd been prescribing it so it was just a waste of money. He was very supportive and went straight in with recommending accutane for me.
Yesterday was the start of a 4-month course, with 3 weeks of 40mg/day and then increasing the dosage to 1mg/kg after that (I weight 64kg). I'll update this post as I encounter any side effects and also detail any progress made. I might also upload some photos to show before/during/after treatment. Feel free to ask any questions!
Week 1
The side effects have started - mostly just dry lips but my skin is also a little dry. I've been having very mild joint pain in my left knee and right hip but nothing major. Other than that nothing much has changed - today I had a headache but that was the first time so I don't know if that'll be a regular thing (hopefully not!) and I also had a breakout on my chin but again that only happened today so I'm not sure if it's the beginning of an initial breakout or not. My skin is still largely the same.
Wishing you the best, dude. I'm currently in the middle of my thrid month on 40mg. The actual active acne seems to be clearing up quite well, but the red marks are lingering. He's hoping they'll clean up soon.I can see your skin looking really good at the end, so keep strong throughout!

Thanks for the support man! My acne always seems to leave red marks that stay ages too but don't worry they'll fade eventually. Good luck with finishing your course
Week 2
It's been just over 2 weeks and not much has changed with my skin but my blackheads are slowly coming out of my nose. The initial breakout i talked about last week lasted about 4 days and consisted of a few new whiteheads on my chin every day but then disappearing pretty fast too, so nothing major. Other than that my skin looks pretty much the same as when I started, maybe a little better. Side effects have stayed the same (dryness, some joint/back pain) but I've had no more headaches. I've also had 2 nosebleeds so I might start putting vaseline in my nose.
