Day 3 of Accutane. Woke up today and I noticed that the area where I have so many bumps has dried up. Some of the bumps look soo dry and not so red as before (pictures above). However, there are new bumps (purging maybe) and now they are on my neck, hairline, etc. They generally do not bother me as I can still cover them with mineral foundation. Though sometimes the area becomes soo itchy I want to scratch it so hard though I cannot.
I hope this purging stops soon.
As for oilyness, it has lessened but still, my face is still oily so much that I don't think I need moisturizer soon.
Day 4.
I woke up today and was shocked. The small bumps I had (picture above) had dried up and looks better than yesterday. Although I still have new ones
I have a new one in my ear (of all places!). Also, face is less oily but not too dry that needs moisturizer.
I guess the only side-effect I am experiencing right now is the "lethargic" feeling (which, to begin with, I am not sure if it is indeed a side-effect)
Still purging.
Day 13:
Still purging. i have countless bumps on my face and some have (excuse me) pus in them I also have 2 cystic ones on my jawline and neck.
The areas covered by the bumps feel itchy most of the time so i use hydrocortisone.
My lips have never been this dry. I've always had chapped lips but never this chapped! It's sooooo dry the texture feels different. I am also feeling joint discomfort especially on my knees. Skin is also dry and my eyes too. I need to buy them lotion! I thought I'll never need them.
What happens if you prick some of those blackheads??
DAY 21.
I finished a box of Roaccutane days ago and I am now on my second box.
Dryness of my lips has gotten better thanks to more water and EOS lipbalm. But the dryness of my skin is still bad! I dunno what kind of lotion I should put to help my skin get back its moisture!
Also, I am still purging MORE THAN EVER. I will wake up with dry acne but more CYSTIC ones. Heck I have 4 cystic acne now all clumped together on my jawline! I have tons of black/white heads and some have (excuse me) pus on them its grossing me out!!!
But I am able to keep my sanity. At least I am no longer that oily..
I have noticed however that my face is becoming "reddish". I wonder if this is normal...I hope it is. I'll see my dermatogolist this Monday to ask some questions and get my second prescription.
Maaannn, time flies so fast!
Week 15.
Improvement has been great! I have no acne on my back now!! As for my face, i have few to zero black/white heads where there used to be countless of them. I still have 3-4 active pimples but that's so few compared to how I usually have! I hope they'll be gone soon though.
I will post pictures of my skin once I have better lighting.
As for the side effects, I missed my period for two months. My emotions and mood swings were so erratic during those two months! It was the worse phase! I get irritated at the smallest things. Because of my period problem, my derma had to decrease my dosage to 5mg a day. The dryness abated for quite some time but it's back Also, I am not sure if I can wholly attribute it to accutane but I've had worse migraine
But hey, no pain no gain!
All in all, I am thrilled! I can't wait to see a clearer skin!
My skin now:
the red patches are scars. and yes, there's one of the 3 active pimples.
Here's my skin on Month 5. Of course this is close-up so you'll see the pores and scars. But from the last picture, the red patches have cleared up noticeably. Now I rarely use foundation. My make-up only consists of eyebrow powder and lip balm and i'm ready to go. My friends even noticed the difference, asking if I've been religiously visiting my derma and getting facials and all. I'd take that as compliment
Month 5 Before (left) and After (right)
You're going to be on it for a year and a half??? Is there a reason you want to do low dose long term or did your doctor just recommend that method? Your face look soooo smooth, amazing results and hoping they keep on coming your way!! :]
Were your period problems solely from the accutane or are you on birth control pills as well? I have this irrational fear that I'm going to find out I'm infertile when I try having children so I think I might freak a bit if my period goes crazy when I start Accutane in a month!!

My original dose was 10mg daily. But because it has been disrupting my period and making me more moody than I already am, I asked if I could lower the dosage. So it was lowered to 5mg, daily. To finish ONE WHOLE CYCLE, I have to take it for a year or so. There's a computation for that and it has something to do with your weight. Basically, I have to finish one whole course so as to prevent the acne from coming back. And since I am on a very low dosage, finishing the total dose (based on my weight) will take roughly a year.
I asked my doctor about problems getting pregnant and all and she assured me that the effects of Accutane is reversible. Meaning, you stop if for a month or so to get "clean" and your body goes back to normal. There are people who get pregnant while on Accutant (which is not good since you won't want your child to have defects due to Accutane).
Besides that, I undergo blood tests every three months to check if my body is okay, internally. So far the results are good.
And yes, I am not taking any other acne-regulating medicine aside from this so I am sure what disrupted my period was Accutane. And so I am back to 5mg per day which is very very very low.
Good luck with yours!! Update us
That's very good that your doctor found a safe plan that will work for you :] Thanks for the reassurance about the infertility, I've read some forums where women blame Accutane for their infertility which probably only fed my irrational fear more...haha! A percentage of all women are going to be infertile but when they find out they just want to blame it on something, which is probably why they think back to their teenage years and pin it on the Accutane. Thanks, I'm sure I'll be updating like crazy- I can't wait to start my treatment, I'm really hopeful that this will be my cure! I should be taking my first pill July 26th if all goes well at my derm appointment on the 25th where I'll have my second pregnancy test and my one-month iPledge screening will be complete!
Wishing you much luck as well!!
