Day 52:
Well I was very lucky to have cleared up nicely just in time for Christmas. I haven't had any breakouts in over a week. I'm happy that I'm finally seeing results, unfortunately my side effects are pretty severe though.
Side effects:
- Extreme fatigue (considering I'm taking amphetamines I'm shocked this is still such a problem)
- Very dry eyes (literally painful to focus on things)
- Flaking skin
- Patches of red flaking skin on my legs, hips, arms
- Terrible rash on my hands, no creams are working
Hi Sarah!
I'm happy to read that you cleared up for Christmas and that you are seeing results. It's easier to tolerate the side effects.
I'm on day 50 and I am still breaking out. I was so ugly on Christmas!! I tried not to care too much. As for the side effects, my skin and lips are not very dry, but I am experiencing nose bleeding (a little more that what I am used to during winter) and strange muscle/bone pain in the chest. It feels like my ribs were sore and as if I had a knot in the middle of my back, Today is better but I was worrying a lot during the last couple of days, I also have rash on my hands (very small bumpy red dots but they don't itch,) Do yours itch? No cream seemed to help neither... I hope your side effects will get better soon. I am soooooo looking forward to the end of it, at least just to have my mind free of all this analyzing of my body...
Good luck!
Hi MaryC:
My acne was moderate servere, I had lots of pustules that resulted in red pigmentation scarring. It was 20 mg for 3 days a week and none the other 4 days. A strange method. It was 6 months and yes I will. Accutane really is a miracle and I hope to use its powers once again!
Day 64:
Clear skin! I haven't had a breakout in a couple of weeks, plus I haven't had a single spot in over a week. Knock on wood though, I'm sure I'll have some mild-moderate breakouts here and there before I finished my course but it looks like the worst of it is over. I saw my derm the other day and she's keeping me at 60mg for the remainder of my course provided my cholesterol doesn't get any higher (it's quite high now). I asked her how many more months I'll need and she said 3... Even though my side effects are brutal I think it's best to stick with it and get the full cumulative dose because I really need this to be my LAST round.

I have some weird chest pains sometimes as well but I try to ignore it as it goes away pretty quick. My hand rash doesn't itch but I have the same looking rash on my knees as well and they do itch... Not sure what to do about it! Stay positive, you're almost at the point where most people clear up!
I'm glad it's going well for you! Sucks to go on a second course, I know how you feel.
I was clear for about 5 months and its all come back worse than before. I have to wait until the 9th of February before I see my derm though
Sorry to hear that, it really is tough to think that acne is gone and have it come back so suddenly. Only 4 weeks until you see your derm and make sure you're very insistent on starting a second round right away, tell him/her you don't want to try any other methods, just accutane. My derm suggested going on antibiotics when I saw her back in October and I asked for Accutane, she agreed to it eventually.
Sarah, I am so happy for you to read this!! I'm on day 61 and I can't I'm still breaking out but I can't say neither that I'm clearing. That's a strange state. I stay positive and reading this from you helps a lot!!
Arsenal: don't give up!! I'm sure it will work. Patience is the key!
