Wasup my name is AsianyJ,
Ive been feeling pretty down the past month because of my acne and it has gotten so bad where I had to go on accutane. So this is ganna be my story and my process log.
My story
Ive had pretty clear skin throughout high school. While my friends were breaking out with occasional pimples, I was always thankful that my skin was pretty clear. Lol they would always make fun of each others faces.Anyway, I always took care of my face with face washes and stuff like that. I didn't really eat well though. High school cafeterias never has anything healthy. Either way, my face was great. But as Junior year ended and Senior year approached, I started developing some mild acne. Nothing too severe, extremely manageable. I started using proactive and face washes with salicylic acid. For a while it seemed to dry up all the acne and it would slowly go away. Then when i graduated high school, things started to get a bit more extreme. I had a lot of red bumps and it was really red and noticeable on my cheeks. (i only got acne on my cheeks during this time) At this time I decided to go for a more natural approach. I found out that lemon juice helps apparently, so I bought a bunch of that and applied it each night before I went to sleep. This is when proactive didn't do jack anymore. For a while, the lemon juice seemed to help with the redness, made my pores tighter and shrunk some of the acne but it would never really seem to go away. From then on, Ive always had mild-moderate acne for 2 years of college (I'm a junior in college right now). During the fall semester of 2013, it seemed like my face was actually clearing up! But towards the last week before finals..HELL BROKE LOOSE! I had absolutely NO IDEA what had happened, cysts were popping up everywhere, acne was all over my face! It was on my cheeks, jawline, below the jawline, on my neck! 2 weeks before winter break and i broke out!!!! By the start of winter break, my face was SWOLLEN, it basically deformed my face and looked like i had an allergic reaction to something. Every time I would shower or wash my face after I shower, my face would bleed and puss would bleed out. (notice i said "puss would bleed out" thats how much puss there was) Its the worst winter break Ive ever had and I hid in my house and didnt do anything all break because I was afraid to go out.
I asked myself and God, "why is this happening, what did i do wrong? why me?!?" I was at the verge of crying one time and I'm a guy who never really cried (except occasional tears while watching Korean Dramas haha but seriously) I have always took care of my body and my face. Throughout the years when I had mild-moderate acne to today when I have severe acne, I always tried to narrow down what the cause of my acne was. And there are several factors to consider when you have acne. Lets start with diet.
Diet
My ignorant parents constantly blame me and says its my own fault for having acne. They are so adamant in believing that acne is solely caused by improper diet and nothing more. They always blamed me saying that I got acne because of protein powder I used to take (GNC whey protein). I looked it up, protein powder doesn't have any correlation to acne. (unless you get the chocolate flavored one and you breakout from chocolate or something) But my diet has always been what they cook for me, which is always stir fry and etc healthy foods. Occasionally I would eat a giant bag of chips but that would only be like once a month or less. I never eat any candy or sweets or chocolates so its definitely not that. I also don't really go to fast food restaurants like mcdonalds. The food at my university) was never really healthy but, heyI gotta eat you know. I wouldn't really get anything that bad. Just a bento or a salad. (mostly salads) If the university food was unhealthy and the cause of acne, I would see a lot more college students with acne but no..everyone has a clear face but me. =.= I also cut out a lot of meat and drank a ton of water last semester.
Skin Care
Like I said previously, Ive always took care of my skin so its definitely not because i didn't wash my face or I'm dirty or anything. I also never really touch my face. I'm probably one of the few guys with a lot of face products and constantly care for my skin. Yea I'm one of those guys.
Hormones/ Genetics
A big part of teens who have acne is due to hormones. But they eventually grow out of it and its not that bad. With diet and skin care crossed off my list as possible reasons for my acne, I leaned towards hormones and genetics. I found out that my mom used to have severe acne and she said it was worse than what i have. (which i don't really believe) my parents absolutely refused to believe that my acne could have been because of hormones and genetics. They still firmly believe its because of my diet.which we have established its not.
Anyway, back to the present. Since I had such severe acne that hurt so much that i couldn't even sleep at night, I was finally able to convince my parents to take me to the dermatologist. (with the help of my sister) They wouldn't take me after years of having acne because they thought all they would do is give me some pointless ointment that doesn't do anything. So guess what? The dermatologist says I have NODULAR CYSTIC ACNE. OMG..so i found out its not even regular acne. He said i had one of the most severe cases he's seen. He was like "you gotta go on accutane". I always knew about accutane and was frankly quite scared by it by all the stories but with my face being like this? I knew it was the last resort.
So here is where my first half of my acne history ends. The second half will be on my progress on accutaneBtw I see all these videos and pictures of people who complain about their mild acne claiming its severe and posting pictures up where they only have a couple of pimples and it confuses me that they even need to use accutane. I mean I'm glad it worked for them but most of the "before" pictures i see, they don't even need itjust saying..i mean during my early acne years where i had mild-moderate acne it was worse than their "before" pics and i didn't even consider accutane Maybe thats where I was wrong haha

First of all: welcome!
I understand your frustration about people that are going on accutane with just mild/moderate acne, but keep in mind that it's not only about having really bad acne. I am also on accutane and my acne is (just) moderate. There are other factors that are important as well, like: How long have you been struggling with acne? How many products have you tried so far? And most importantly: How do you feel about your acne? Some people (including me) just get really depressed because of their acne. In that case it's probably a good thing to go on accutane if you ask me.
Anyways, I would like to wish you good luck with your accutane journey! When are you going to take your first pills?

Thank you for your kind welcome!
Ive been struggling with acne for about 5 years but only got really really severe this month. Ive tried countless products. Too much to even name, All those typical products that people usually use like proactive, to home remedies, to asian medicine. None of them worked. and yes I get depressed because of my acne. My face is basically deformed because of the swelling¦ and it looks like burnt marks because of all the scabs (i don't pick at it, it just bleeds by itself. especially every morning when i wake up), I am already on accutane, so I'm a bit late with starting this blog. oh well.. lol Im on the second day of week three.
I think i see some improvements but who knows¦ Could be just me being hopeful
Hey there! Don't worry, there's a pretty great chance that you'll see some results on the days/weeks to come!

Accutane works to achieve partial or complete clearance of acne in about 95% of people who complete a cycle, regardless of whether they have inflammatory or non-inflammatory acne. The majority of people who take it see their acne effectively cured, experiencing long-term remission of acne symptoms.
So a week before accutane, my face was HELL.. basically i had a lot of puss type acne on my cheeks, jawline, and neck. I also had like 4 or 5 cysts on my neck. my face was basically swollen and was deformed from the swelling! It was so bad that if i applied a little of pressure on my face, puss would bleed out. My face would constantly be in pain and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. At night my face would also bleed and my pillow would have drops of blood on it and there would be giant scabs on my neck T.T
So after my mom realized it was this serious (with the help of my sister convincing) cuz if my sister didn't help convince her, I probably wouldn't even have gone to the dermatologist At the dermatologist's office, he said that my case was one of the most severe cases he's ever seen and that I needed to be on accutane. So I went on it, did blood tests blah blah blah took my first pill (40mg) that night along with 40mg of predisone.
So heres my progress so far.
Week 1
Face was still pretty swollen but the predisone helped bring it down a bit. After 4 days, I think i had an initial breakout but i don't know if i did because my face was already f-ed up to the max. I noticed more pus acne tho. by the end of week 1 my skin started getting kinda dry.
Week 2
Swelling seemed to calm down and my lips and skin was getting even dryer. I think the right side of my neck was dryer than the rest of my face because it seems to crack every time I slept and I would wake up with scabs on my neck.By the end of week 2 my skin was kinda flakey. The pain kind of resided but it would hurt a bit after I shower. I think its because my skin pulls on itself because it becomes dry after I shower. I tried moisturizing and it make me feel better but i would still get occasional bursts of pain. Mainly on my neck. Probably because of the cyst pushing up against my skin. The acne on my cheeks wouldn't hurt that much though.
By the end of week two my skin was pretty dry and everything looked flatter!!! like it started finally calming down. Im currently on week 3 right now so I will post it up my "progress" when its done but as of right now? 2 days into week 3? I got like another 3 cysts on the middle of my neck.and it seems like my neck is swelling up again. I don't know if this is another initial breakout or something.. If someone one knows can you please tell me? Im always taking predisone btw.

week 3
i think my face is starting to clear? I think i definitely notice that the bottom of my cheeks look clearer and feels smoother. but the top part of my cheeks remain bumpy and hurts a bit when i smile. the worst part is still my neck. theres still a lot of cysts and it seems to get more and more each day!! it so red and looks like my neck got hit by acid and is melting away god help me..
