hey..finally doing accutane after waiting years! i just have to wait for the blood results to come back & then fill out a questionaire..hopefully this comes in by thurs so i dont have to do the whole process again :/. im going to try and post pictures every week or month depending on the results...im 24 and have had accne for years..i really dont no why i didnt try accutane early..i just hope itll help because alot of it looks like scars but my derm said "all the red will go away but he doesnt no whats underneath the redness" so who knows.
if anyone can give me an estimate on how long the blood test results take to come back that would be great..hate waiting..haha..&&&&& do yous think accutane will help or does it look more like scars in your opinions?. i dont have much confidence this will work but hoping for the best.
In my opinion you don't look like you have much if any active acne, I'm not sure if it's not photographing good or what the deal is. It looks like you have a lot of PIH that you can take care of and I think youd be much happier with your complexion. My blood test results always came back within 48 hours.
ahh sooo annoyed i need to vent! i just realized i only have enough pills til AUG 13. && my derm appt is aug 12...so if the earliest i can get my blood test is aug 13th im obviously going to run out of pills. So i called the doc yesterday and tried to explain this and the girl ( secretary?) was such an idiot..seriously. Long story short: she told me it was fine if i missed some days. Well, yeah..not acceptable. why would i wanna miss days? UGH gonna try and call again and ask to speak to a nurse or something...has anyone ever had this problem?
It's normal. My derm appointment was always the day after I took my last pill of the month. Accutane stays in your system for 30 days after consuming a pill. Some people believe even longer. This is why you need a waiting period aft accutane and having children or donating blood. Because the medication stays in your system for a 30 day period.
Your derm cannot prescribe the medication until the 7 day time period with ipledge so they can't overlap prescriptions is what my dermatologist explained to me. If you last pill is on the 12th and your derm appointment is on the 13th you won't go without pills. Get it filled the same day and take all the pills for the day at once. That's what my derm had me do and it's safe.

Agreed. Even if you miss 3 days it shouldn't make an important difference because Accutane stays in your system for up to 30 days after your last pill.
I always went in a took my pregnancy test which came back minutes later. Then met its my derm. Since my test was always negative she would prescribe me another month and talk to me about side effects and determine if I should have my dosage bumped up or not. Id go fill my script, the next day or two later my derm would call me and tell me my blood results and tell me either to continue with the dosage she prescribed or if my blood work didn't come back great she would drop my dosage. ( never happened, but that's what she said she would do.)
If your derm will not prescribe the accutane until after they have seen your blood work then I would suggest calling your dermatology office and asking for blood work orders to be put in a few days before your appointment. That way lets say your appt is on Friday. You could go in on Wednesday and get blood work done that way your derm will have your blood work results and your derm will be confident in prescribing you the medication that day! That's my suggestion.
yeah my derm wont prescribe the accutane til after they see my blood work..which is why i tried to call in and see if they can get me my prescription for blood work a couple days earlier ..which they wouldnt !! My appointment is on a Monday, and I only have pills up til Tuesday...so if earliest i can get blood work done is tuesday ill be out of pills for a couple days :/ ( it took about two days before). i wish they would just do like you suggested and give me my blood prescription a couple days before but they wont for whatever freaking reason......
I'd have a conversation with your derm next appointment and tell his or her your concerns and that you don't feel comfortable waiting days after your prescription is up. Make sure your appointment is in a timely manner next time and make sure your in that 30 day window. Best luck to you next time!
its been a week since i started! nothing drastic...lips starting to get dry..and noticed my hands were dry today too..i was more worried about my eyes because i had lasik done in oct..so hoping they dont get too dry....
face wise: i dont really see much of a difference..my sis/mom said they thought my face looked smoother (this is with makeup on tho)...only a week at 20 mg tho so deft just getting started...keeping my fingers crossed!
Good luck with everything! I've always had extra accutane because even though my derm told me to start off taking 1 40mg capsule a day, he prescribed 2. Maybe if you do skip a day here and there you'll have some extra.
Doing the blood work ahead of time would be a good idea, see if you can get a 'standing order', then you won't need a new script each month. I'm surprised by the variation amongst dermatologists on the bloodwork. Mine didn't seem too bothered by it... he prescribed it before having initial results, then I got them to him, and he was fine. I've only done 2 blood tests and this is month 4.
I know it must be more difficult for girls because of the ipledge... I honestly don't even know what they require since I've never had to worry about pregnancy... I think they give you a test and ask you what contraceptives you're on? I can't imagine you can't do a pregnancy test in 3 minutes and get it entered.
thank you, hoping this goes well! but im deft jealous, guys have it SOOO much easier lol. but the blood test is too see if your pregnant && that took about two days to come in. Thats the reason they wont give girls the prescription til after they get the results..then the ipledge questions are available and they take like 2 minutes to answer..its just waiting for the blood work thatll make me miss some days.It would be sooo much easier if my doc would just give me my blood work prescription before i run out..BUTTTTTTT i guess that makes too much sense
i think its like day 12? 20 mg...its a LITTLE better...not really expecting a miracle over night butttt i wish it would just go away already. i hope it actually does go away and its not just scars. I guess the only way to really see the progress is by pictures sooooo gotta try and stay on top of that.
sooo i just got back from the derm!! he says im a "slow starter" (obv..my face looks no better!!) but that im on the lowest dosage so that could be why. He upped my dosage to 20mg twice a day..so gonna fast and take the blood work tomorrow morning..i only have enough pills for tomorrow then ill be done with month number one!!!
i wasnt going to post any pics because my face doesnt look any better//different...but i figured id post after every derm appointment to get an idea of where im at.. soo why not.
soo i was going to wait til tomorrow after my derm appointment to post my new pics but i fee like doing it now...on saturday i will finish my 2 months of accutane. I noticed some improvement when i wear my makeup.. its a little less bumpy..but its still really red when i take it off..
idk if acctuane will clear up my cheeks because to me alot of it looks like red marks? if anyone has any input then that would be awesome:).
