I never wanted to see the day come, but here it is. I am starting my course of accutane tomorrow. I am 24 years old, have mocha skin, weigh 155lb, and have mild/moderate acne that leaves scars regardless of how i treat the zits. I get cysts sometimes, a lot of nodular acne, whiteheads and blackheads, and not to mention my skin get super oily always. My back has some serious scarring on it as well as a constant amount of cysts. My doctor wants me to start with 80mg a day, but I am gonna just start with 40mg and see how I respond. My last derm told me I should only need 40mg a day for my course, so I figure I will just shoot for the 120-150mg per kg cumulative dose.
I have been treating my acne since i turned 20. I first started with the usual otc stuff, proactive, masks, ect. Then i saw a derm and he mentioned accutane, but I was living in Santa Barbara at the time, and for anyone who knows about Isla Vista you know that being there but not drinking heavily is not really an option. So he put me on a few different creams and anti-biotics till we got to minocyclene and epiduo. I had never had clearer skin! The oil was still there but oil absorbing sheets worked wonders. So for the next 2 years i took the pills and rubbed the cream all over my face. I stopped taking the mino because my derm told me that the extended consumption of the same anti-biotic could lead to side effects, so i quit. The acne started to come back, so i decided to try intense light therapy, pdt with ala to be exact. I had a horrible reaction, and it didnt really do anything but make my skin super sensitive to epiduo. So I now had oily skin with mild acne and no real options to treat it other than accutane.
A few months after the pdt I took a trip to Germany and Iran and developed a lung infection. They gave me antibiotics there, and put me on three different ones here with no avail. I felt like because of my extended anti-biotic consumption my body was now non-responsive to them. I had read months before about doing a full body cleanse both on here and a few other sites, but never really given it much serious thought. Then one night I wasn'td out with my friends, probably because of a zit, I came across an ebook called "your last acne solution". It was 30$ and I figured why not see what its all about. So i bought it and the book talked about a full body cleanse and enemas to get the liver working at full capacity because acne is just caused by toxins stored in our body. So I did it, partially to cure the lung infection, which it did, but mostly to help my skin.
I started to only eat organic food, went vegan, then raw, and did a juice cleanse. All while taking enzymes and clay to get rid of the toxins my body was realeasing. I also started to do oil pulling in the morning(dont waste your time). Over 3 weeks I lost 25 pounds, and turned into an angry, angry man. I definitely noticed many changes in my bodily functions, but my skin didn't improve at all. I began to introduce cooked food back into my diet, but i cut out alcohol, ALL sugar and fruit other than berries, gluten(except for sprouted grains), soy(except for sprouted soy), dairy, vinegar, and other random shit that supposedly fed "bad bacteria". So i continued with the Dr. Hula parasite cleanse, and then did a liver/gallbladder flush complete with coffee enemas, consumptions of an insane amount of magnesium, and drinking lemon juice mixed with olive oil. I did the actual intense flushing process twice, 5 days apart. After the second one i started taking herbs to rebuild my liver, and to be honest, two weeks after the flushes my skin was perfect. It was glowing, clear, and i never had felt better in my life. But it did not last.
The oil was the first thing to come back, then the zits followed. But my skin was manageable, so I maintained the cleanse diet and experimented with way to control my acne. The best things for my skin were definitely using the oil cleansing method which i still do now, different supplements had different effect, calcium-D-glucarinate was the best, and the diet i felt really kept my acne to a minimum. I would break out at times, but it wasn't a big deal. After a year of the acne progressively coming and scaring and then leaving, I was sick of eating like a hippie, not being able to put on weight, and not being able to live life like a normal person. So after a year, which was February of this year, i got off the cleanse diet. I have to say my skin did get somewhat worse, but not so much that i would ever waste my time on that crazy of a diet.
SO here I am today, thinking about how my first pill will make me feel tomorrow. I know I have tried everything else, and I just wanna be free of acne. Accutane has worked for many of my cousins, and even my aunt when she was 24, and is now a dermatologist at Stanford hospital! I am going to try and post at least once a week, and of course whenever any big changes occur. Feel free to message me with any questions about my cleanse or whatever.
Btw, I am a trained chef and now am working toward a nutrition degree and eventually a masters in molecular toxicology. Mainly so I can really understand my body and what supplements and cleanses actually do to our bodies. I kinda treated myself like a gunea pig, but Im sure Ill live a few years longer for it.
Interesting story. We have similar stories when it comes to dietary changes and antibiotics (although I only took one course).
Regarding your body acne, did you only get bad body acne after taking a lot of oral antibiotics? Or did you always have bad body acne?
Also, do you happen to have any friends or cousins who took a lot of courses of oral antibiotics|
I actually had body acne far before I had that much facial acne. Through my teenage years i didn't really care about it because it was mostly on my back.
I dont think any of my cousins too the anti-biotics for that long, they just went for the accutane. I was seeing this girl for a little that was on mino and had been for over 4 years. It was right around the time i started my cleanse, and it was funny because she was convinced it was okay to be on those long term.
Took my first 40mg pill. I got amnesteem, hopefully its the fire. I took it midway through my breakfast of filet mignon and eggs
Im trying to wash the pill down with aloe vera juice. I drink 2oz before my meal and 2oz with the pill. I have always found it to soothe my stomach and it is proven to increase the absorption of supplements.
Im really hoping some gnarly side effect doesn't make me have to stop midway through the course. I guess the future will tell.
I will post pics. Like i said before, my cousins tried them but not for as long as me.
My face acne as of now. The scars are obvious, but active ones are hard to see because of my skin tone. I tried to capture how bumpy my forehead is, but with no avail. Mucho blackheads and skin colored pumps. Hopefully accutane clears all of this up!
So now I am 4 days in and I feel like I am experiencing the onset of my initial breakout. 4-5 cysts have come up on my neck, and I barely ever get ance on my neck. My forehead also has been breaking out. I am tempted to drain the whiteheads that have shown up, but I have heard picking on accutane is how you can get bad scars. I guess I will just let them do their own thing. Hopefully this comes and goes. and hopefully i dont get another big breakout when I jump up to 80mg.
I have almost the same kind of mild acne, but only on my face. Your history is very similar to me.
Do you shave with electric shaver? pls see this
A few days ago, someone said here, that beard trimmer is the best solution for acne sufferers.
We should avoid irritation of our skins. so I intend to buy from Amazon - Philips, Braun or Remington (they're best selling trimmers)
From your pics, I just can tell you, that your healing is not beyond the sea.
So, good luck my friend.
So i took my eleventh pill today. Skin seems to be peeling on my face. The initial breakout is still hanging around. I also go sunburn pretty bad on my back, and I NEVER get sunburn. Lips seem to be peeling also, and my nose always has dry blood in it randomly. But all in all im okay. I wonder how 80 mg will feel.
So i have finished my second pack of 40mg pills. Im at 800mg! only about 9,000 to go. The initial breakout has for the most part calmed down, but I do still have spots here and there. My skin is not oily at all! I wake up and my face is dry. Its pretty crazy. I am noticing my nose and cheeks purging out blackheads, i think...kinda gross but whatevers. I am seeing my derm on thursday to get my next script filled. And on the 23 of this month I will be starting 80mg a day. Who knows what the future holds for me, but so far I think I should be able to handle this.
I dont think based on three pictures you can make that judgement. I have been on topicals for years and have taken antibiotics in the past, but to no avail. So far on the accutane my pores have purged out years of accumulated crap, my skin isn't covered in a sheen of oil all the time, and I feel fine. I appreciate your concern about the possible side effects, but antibiotics have side effects too. They are just less publicized.
On another note, I am going to take 80mg today! The last two pills of my third 10 pack...well see how it goes. Im hoping for the best.

How is it you need 80mg? My acne was far worse than what yours seems (you can check out my thread), and yet my doctor absolutely and outright refused to take me higher than 40mg.
I think you're probably making a mistake of going that high...
My derm wants me at 80mg through the whole course because of my body weight and to keep me at the 1mg per kg per day. My aunt who is a dermatologist also says 80mg is fine for me. I dunno what you are, but im guessing its not an MD.
I looked at your thread, and i find it funny how worried you are about my side effects when your going out and drinking hard on this drug. If you wanna avoid side effects then dont drink, eat properly, and take care of yourself. These "horrible" side effects that are so well known only really happen in 1% of people on the drug, the rest are tolerable side effects, and still only occur in small percentages of people.
I feel good about this treatment, and although your body acne looks worse than whats on my face, you cant tell me I'm doing something wrong by choosing this treatment. If you read my first post on this thread you'll see all the treatments I went through prior to deciding to take the step to accutane. So regardless of your opinion, Im gonna keep moving forward.
Been noticing lots of headaches...dunno if its because of the increase in dosage or lack if sleep.
Here in California we have medical marijuana, and I am finding that smoking a little cannabis helps a lot with the pain. So far I haven't found it to have any adverse effects with the accutane.
But obviously I would never recommend doing an illegal drug... where i live its medicine
Well I have chronic idiopathic urticaria, so I get my script for that. But you could use an accident in your past if you got xrays or anything, and say you have chronic pain. The xrays are proof that it was once a real issue and it is still effecting you. It really shouldn't be that hard.
Hit the 2400mg mark, feeling good. Still breaking out in some spots, but my pores are clear, my skin produces almost no oil, and overall my skin is super smooth.
Only real bothersome side effect is the dry lips and inside of my nose. Ive started to just condition my hair most days of the week to avoid dryness from washing.
two months in! Feeling pretty good. Some blemishes are popping up but I feel like things are getting better.
Lots of dry skin, olay in shower moisturizer is my savior. My back is also starting to purge all its crap out, and starting to feel smother. Hopefully the next few months bring me as positive of a change as the last two months.
