So I've been on Accutane now for the past 3 months, 20mg for the first month, and 40mg there after. I am mainly taking accutane now due to the fact that I've been a depressive mess for the past 2 years. I have old acne scars from when i was 15-17y.o on my face, and i'm now 24 years old and acne still wants to linger around. I've had moderate breakouts on my chest and shoulders over the past 2 years, which has left some awesome pitted scars and something called perifollicular elastolysis (joy). The reason i'm writing this post is to vent a little! and to also ask if anyone else has had a good outcome with accutane for shoulder and/or chest acne? Iv notice new break outs recently and i think i need abit of hope. People are so lucky to have clear skin, that don't know how luck they are!

Hey mate my chest, shoulder and back are perfectly clear now. I have just finished my course, fourth day post-Accutane to be exact. On the third page, of my log, I have pictures of the improvements my upper body experienced between June to November (could not take any of my back really). I have been to busy to do any pictures in recent times, so that is why I am saying to log at the third page of my log. I hope this helps you and feel free to ask me any questions mate.

Mate I was on Oratane from the 29th of May, 2012, until the 2nd of May, 2013. So my course was eleven months long. The first three months were only on 20mg/day, and thus did not count towards my accumulative dose. I then did a further eight months at 40mg/day, like you are doing now. The first three months (of my Oratane course) were at a lower dose because of the type of acne I had, and how my derm thought my body would react to the medication. So do not think that your course needs a few extra months like mine.

Also how much do you weigh? The reason I am asking is because that will affect the length of your course. I weight about 72 kilograms, so if you're around that then your course should be the same length (roughly) as mine. Which as you mentioned it looks like being.

Good to know. Well I weigh approx 64kg. I have def found that my skin is alot less oily since upping the dose to 40mg. I just realised i was on 20mg for the first 2 months (not 1 month as previously stated :S) and I am now halfway into my 2nd month of 40mg. When did you begin to notice your skin clearing up on the 40mg dose?...I just thought my chest and shoulder would start clearing up a little sooner. I guess patience is key! How is your skin going now after the oratane??

I was on 40mg/day for about two months before I received the improvements that you saw (for my chest, shoulders and back) on my page. I was on 20mg/day for three-and-a-half months before that, other people on this website have improved quicker than I did. Hopefully you will be like the other people and clear up quicker than I have. Yeah I found patience as the best thing for this treatment, though it is easier to say that in hindsight.

My skin is pretty good now. My back, chest and shoulders are clear, while my face is till clearing a bit. It just has real minor acne caused by shaving irritation, which is pretty much already gone within a week post-Accutane. My lower body still has a bit of mild acne, though it broke-out last in relation to the rest of my body, so I expect that it should disappear within a month hopefully. Also I did not moisturise this morning and my skin is still fine some eight hours later. I will probably moisturise twice a day, maybe once in a few days time, but my skin seems to be recovery pretty quickly post-Accutane.

Bro, I have/am having the exact same experience as you, I'm 200 days into my accutane course, for the first 3 months I believe, I was on 10mg-30mg (10mg for like 2 weeks, 20mg for like a week and then 30mg until month 3), then I moved up to 40mg which is apparently the most my doctor is willing to prescribe me. The acne on my chest was doing well, in fact I was 97% clear I'd say... But after noticing what might have been a small pimple making it's way on to my chest, I ended up getting angry and for the past week have been showering 3-4 times a day and each time washing/scrubbing my chest with both antiseptic (surgeon) soap, and Protex Active antibacterial soap, needless to say, my chest has now exploded in about 7 different zits. I can't help but think this is attributed to the way I went about washing my skin.... Anyway... I have a question to ask, how often do you shower while on accutane? Do you just shower with hot water and for a small time? Or do you use soap and shower for a long time? I just want to get things right... I'm too far into my treatment now to screw things up again.

Btw, I am a 21yr old male.

Mate I am going to reply to this post on your log, just so we don't take over someone else's log.
