I just took my first roaccutane pill....so I thought it was time I create my log.
So here's my acne story thus far. I had forehead acne from the age of 13 to 18. Occasional cheek spot once a month, perfect chin. The first 6 months after I turned 18 I had the best skin ever, but in january 2008 I got acne and it's pretty much been with me ever since :/. In the space o a month I went from clear skin to about 20 actives on each cheek. I tired everything over the counter that I could buy, super expensive skin care, super expensive make up, that didn't help. I went to the doctor tried several antibiotics, retin a, differin. The only thing that some what worked, didn't clear but calmed down my acne was doxycycline, but I took it for nearly two years and then became immune to it. I've tried acne.org it has worked on and off let the ears, but even after months I can never get use to bp, and I jut don't want to do it for life.
I have two actives on both cheeks, my chin has a few scars but no actives. My right cheek is really badly scarred at the moment .
I went to see my dermatologist this morning to get my first prescription, I made her aware that I am super hesitant about taking this drug, I asked her a ton of questions, from hair loss, to future infertility (my two biggest worries about being on this drug). I left my job last week, so I plan to leave my hair alone, wash it less frequantly, and stay away from heat styling tools. And I just prayed like hell before taking the pill that this does not make me infertile in the future :/
I told the doctor I was really scared, mentioned all the people on youtube/ google asking for this drug to be banned. She assured me shes prescibled it to hundrads if not thousands and she hasnt had one person complain about hair loss, and she does not know anyone that has gone infertile because of it.
I've ordered Aquaphor, ive bought cetaphil cleanser and moistureiser but I would love some recomendations for a spot treatment and for a foundation im going to be going to interviews soon and would like one with good coverage.
Stats :
Weight 48kg
starting on 20mg
Oh and I need some accutane buddy's because my family and friends are sick to death hearing me talk about acne, all my friends say my skin is fine and not that bad, but when they get 'ONE' spot on their flawless faces the world ends!!!!!!
I didnt realise how terrible those pictures are, taken on my phone, if I find my camera i'll upload some better ones.
Oh and according to the derm, I shouldnt expect a serious IB, because my acne is not severe and im on a really low dosage. But im still really worried about it fingers crossed
Hey! I'll be your accutane buddy as i started today too at 40 mg (will move up to 60mg in a few weeks). Acne sucks doesn't it. Hoping we both don't experience distressing IB. Pics don't look too bad and its great that you are documenting your progress, it will keep you sane as time goes on.
As for not having an IB, never trust a derm with that as whether or not you have an IB and the severity depends on your body. Same thing with side effects. i find it best to eat right, exercise, drink plenty of fluids and put your faith in God (if you're a believer).
We never know what the future holds so we have to take it one step at a time
Here's to supporting each other

I can really relate to you saying your family and friends are sick of hearing you talk about your skin. I feel the same way, but they just don't understand how much our skin consumes are lives! Unless you have personally walked around with huge pus filled cysts on your face you would never understand how hard it can be. But we don't have to worry anymore because we finally will cure our acne with this drug. I am confident that if you take it as prescribed and take care of yourself you will have a successful treatment. I know, per this board, that accutane is not successful for everyone BUT everyone that I have personally known to take accutane (which happens to be quite a few people) have never had any acne since.
I watched a youtube video by an aspiring makeup artist who is on accutane and she recommend MAC prolong wear concealer. I really like this stuff. I've been wearing a lot less makeup because I'm trying to let my skin heal as best as possible so I usually just wear this. I would say it's about medium coverage but if I put a powder on top its full coverage.
Just like Sasch said don't go by what your derm says. My first derm told me he rarely sees anyone have an IB and my new derm told me that most everyone has an IB because it purges everything out of your skin. I've seen people on here who barely had any acne and two weeks into accutane had 10/10 severe cystic acne and I've seen people who started with mild acne and their skin just got progressively better. You really have no idea which way it will go. I'm on day 11 and just now starting my IB but it's not too too bad. A lot of people notice the first week that their skin appears to be clearing so don't let this get your hopes up that you will skip the IB. I know that happened to me.
Anyways, Good luck and I'll be following your log!
Yay Accutane buddies
I have two new spots today, I think it has something to do with me going of BP. I bent down this morning to pick something up and had my first back pain ever....didnt think I would see any side effect that quick. Other then that nothing else to really report.
I'm not sure how long I will have to take it, the derm said they will up my dosage depending on how well I react to the drug. But she said its usually between 5 to 6 months.
