I am almost exactly one month behind you. I'm happy for you that you are seeing progress. This gives me hope :) I will also be bumping up from 30-60mg in a couple of days and I'm nervous about the side effects :/ I will hang on for another break out and much more reptiilian skin! This is all such an exhausting journey! Good luck this month

Yes progress!! Your skin looks so much smoother!! I can't wait to see the end of month 3 smile.png

Don't you love how we check our skin for new bumps all the time? I'm really bad about doing this anytime I wake up at night. I just spent a bad skin weekend. I actually had this weekend off and for some reason broke out terribly! I thought I had avoided the IB but I guess 20 days in I got it. I think they are starting to heal now¦ and I hope when my does increases I don't get this again. The plan is for me to do like you did- month 1 40 and then up to 60 for 5 or six months.

Happy you are seeing improvement!

Thank you! I'm really bad about touching my face. I know it's not helping matters!

I guess I had an IB though it wasn't like so many horrible ones I've heard about. I'm still breaking out here at the start of Month 3 - three new ones this weekend.

Keep hanging in there!

I thought I would have additional side effects during my second month after bumping up to 60mg, but nothing much really. Still breaking out though and of course there are still plenty of months left for side effects, but I'm pleased with how I'm tolerating it thus far.

Good luck to you too this month!

I see progress! Things definitely look smoother. :D I hope it continues to get better, and that's fantastic news about no scarring! I have some light scarring. It sucks, but I try not to let it get me down.

Holy crap my eyes are red and stinging this afternoon. I hope this is not a sign that I'll have to stop wearing my contacts. I wanted to read through the logs today and say some hellos but my eyes can't take this computer screen anymore!

Not sleeping well at all this week and starting to get a lot more noticeable joint pain unsure.png Also feeling a bit irritable.

Otherwise, my face is definitely breaking out less but I wish it would break out NONE :P

Day 67

Month 3

Week 9

Still trucking along at 60mg. Still breaking out, though much less. I've been trying to get rid of big bumps at the corners of my mouth (right next to the cracks, ouch) but they are hanging on for a long time. There are some under-the-sink spots along my jawline that aren't very visible but aren't budging. So all in all, I have four active bumps, three healing, and a several clogged pores. And lots of hyperpigmentation!

Still have a lot of fatigue and I now struggling with some joint pain. Major back pain the other night after cleaning all day. I wake up in the middle of the night and in the mornings with pain in my ankles, toes, and wrists.

I'm also having some trouble sleeping. I wake up a lot, completely dehyrdated. So I'm hoping that by consuming more water, I may start sleeping better.

My face is dry but not flakey. The rest of my body doesn't feel dry. My eyes are becoming more dry and I think I'm going to have to start wearing my glasses more often.

Hooray for breaking out less!!!

Sounds like you're entering into the magical Month 3. Hopefully it just keeps getting better and better.

Have you talked to your doc about the joint pain? That sounds pretty bad. I only get pain in my knees and lower back sometimes. It sucks, but my only savior has been exercise, stretching, and sleeping. What kind of exercise do you do? I try to stay away from running, and use the elliptical, cause it hurts less.

The joint pain is not Awful (except for that back pain the other night...but the next morning it was much better).... and it only seems to be in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning so I think it could be the stiffness. I walk a lot with my dog, but I'd also like to take up yoga.

Woah are my eyes hurting this afternoon! I'm going to have to start bringing my contact case and glasses...I don't think I can go all day anymore, especially staring at a monitor most of the day. Boo, I hate wearing my glasses.

Day 74

Month 3, Week 10

I am breaking out significantly less now and the bumps are much smaller...typically whiteheads that aren't too inflamed. My skin looks and feels pretty smooth, but it's very red (the good ol' accutane "burn"). Lots of hyperpigmentation but I think that will fade in time. I'm sure some of it already has.

Still having some back and joint pain. My lips are very dry and I still have that big crack in one corner of my mouth. But otherwise, side effects are pretty minimal for now!

Thank you...I do see the improvement too and I'm happy about it. I still feel like I have a long ways to go!

Day 78

Month 3, Week 11

Skin - I do have a few small actives right now and some other spots that are healing, plus one little jerk on my neck. The hyperpigmentation looks like acne to the untrained eye, however my face is soooo much smoother compared to pre-Accutane. I haven't been obsessing as much lately or constantly checking for new bumps...which is probably why I haven't been as active on the forums (though still reading others' logs)

Side effects - very dry lips with a big crack in one corner. Fatigue and some joint/back pain and having some trouble sleeping. Otherwise, my body doesn't feel dry and my face is manageable if I keep it moisturized. My eyes are a lot more dry and I'm often wearing my glasses instead of contacts. I get headaches and crabby if I don't drink enough water.

Since I got my haircut I feel like my features are so much more noticeable, which I like, but it makes me want to cover that hyperpigmentation. So yesterday I broke down and switched up my makeup routine to a foundation that covers a lot better. It stayed on all day and definitely hid those marks, but I'm so concerned that I'll get a giant cyst. Today I'm back to my tinted moisturizer and mineral powder.

Monday is bloodwork and next Thursday is my Derm appt, before heading into Month 4. Here's hoping that my cholesterol has stabilized. I've been better with my eating habits this month, though still not perfect.

Hope you all are healing too smile.png

Day 88

Month 3, Week 12

Last week I had my Dermatologist appt and I'm now just about done with Month 3! My cholesterol had stabilized this month, only dropping a few points, but not increasing, so that was good news. Triglycerides were creeping up, though still normal, so I better start being more diligant with my fish oil (I have been slacking the last couple of weeks!)

My skin is breaking out much much less now, which of course is awesome. I still break out and I have a lot of hyperpigmentation that needs to heal, but my face is pretty smooth and no longer feeling congested.

My lips are quite dry and my eyes have become Extremely dry, but otherwise my side effects are minimal for now!

Sorry, friends, that I have not been around. I think of you all quite often and hope you're all seeing healing and feeling good!

Month 3 Recap

Month 3 was my best yet!

Skin:

  • Breakouts really started diminishing. Only a few actives this month.
  • Did not see much change in the hyperpigmentation.
  • Face is often very red, but overall quite smooth.
  • Fair amount of clogged pores

    Side Effects:

    • Eyes became dry and irritated enough that I've basically stopped wearing contacts and only wear my glasses
    • Inside of my nose extremely dry and raw, sometimes with bleeding. Using saline spray.
    • Fatigue/lack of energy
    • Insomnia - some long nights awake despite being very tired!
    • Some minor joint pain in my hands/wrists/ankles
    • Cholesterol stabilized at 237
    • Body is not particularly dry

Your progress is awesome! You must be really happy with the results so far, I bet! I have been reading your log among others, since I am soon (next month more or less) to start my own accutane journey (second one but the first was ages ago), in order to take some strength and good vibes for the months to follow and, honestly, you people here make me to actually anticipate to start my treatment!

Good luck with the rest of your course and a wonderful, flawless, acne - free face at the end!

Hi Friends! I know I have been out of the loop for a long while, but I've been so happy with my progress, I didn't want to dwell. I've been keeping all of you in my thoughts and wishing you success in your own journeys to become acne free :) Here's an update on me.

End of Month 4 Progress Pics

Today I had my LAST dermatologist appointment! I'm wrapping up Month 5 and I begin Month 6 pills in about a week, and then it will all be over!

I did have several breakouts at the beginning of Month 4, but they healed fairly quick and since then I've only had two or three active bumps. I do have a small active bump right now, and boy does it stand out when the rest of my face is so clear!

Side effects are minimal at this point. I have had some problems with insomnia that is likely accutane related, but my skin has tolerated this drug surprisingly well. Still ready to have my old self back, sans acne!

After I completely finish Month 5, I'll post some more pics. This hyperpigmentation should fade with time - most everything is not true scarring.

Doctors always say be careful and keep an eye on depression signs. hoever i think: DEPRESSION DOES NOT COME FROM MEDS BUT FROM DOCTORS.

You might ask why do i think this way, well let me tell you. I went to see my dermatolog as it has been 1 month and i have to get a new prescription. The doctor suggested that i take anibiotics, HOWEVER she didnt know what works with my accutane so she goes and GOOGLES it in front of me and checks different webs.

How can u trust a doctor who doesnt know the answer and above all relies on internet web info.

I think to control negative thoughts i have been trying to arrange events and keep spending time with friends. I love cooking for friends so have been inviting a lot of people that make me laugh.

Dont worry about the lips, make sure u use plenty of vaseline and they wont crack,.

Beginning of Month 6 Progress Pics

I'm working on my FINAL MONTH of Accutane! I'm very very pleased with the results and I think I will continue to improve. I have not experienced anything new as far as side effects go. I still struggle some with insomnia and my lips are definitely worse for wear. Lanolin for lips is the best though. Otherwise, I'm feeling good and feeling GREAT sans acne! I still occaisonally have a small breakout and there is plenty of hyperpigmentation and redness, but it's nothing nothing nothing compared to what I dealt with before.

I will update again once it's all said and done!

LAST DAY OF ACCUTANE!!

This is it! Tonight I took my last two Accutane pills! So thrilled to be completing this phase of my journey! I feel confident that I will no longer be incessantly plagued by this issue and I'm looking forward to complete healing as my scarring continues to fade. The hyperpigmentation and scarring is significant but I do believe the majority will fade with time.

Please visit my blog for a complete update and pictures from Day 1 and pictures from Today!

I plan to update again, post-accutane. I hope my progress log has helped someone.

Thanks to EVERYONE here for your support. I am always thinking of those here that are dealing with this awful issue. Keep searching for your cure. I believe you will find it.
