Katie!! You are done! Holy shit girl! I have 2 weeks left and I am calling it quits too! 7 months on this stuff! Been a long road! I like you am very ready to have the old me minus ance back too! I am looking forward to the day I dont apply lip balms or aquaphor, or the day I don't need a heating pad to prevent me from feeling 90 years old when I sit or stand!
I'm proud of you girl! You stayed strong and positive this entire course. I know how difficult parts of it were for the both of us. I'm happy to have been able to go through it with you and be supportive when you have needed it. I know I'm greatful to have had you as my tane twin and walk with you through all this. Seriously without you all on this board I would have been a mess. Without you Katie I would have quit, being able to have you to talk to and go through seriously all the same shit at the same time was a HUGE help. I've never been on accutane before and honestly didn't know what a long journey and sometimes tough journey it was going to be. To have you be able to message me back and say, same thing is going on with me right now was so reassuring! Thank you sweetie!
If you don't keep up with this log, I'll be checking in with you on the FB <3 so happy for you to be clear and finished with this chapter of your life!! Congrats

I am SO happy to be done! I can't believe I finally am. Two weeks, yay! Seven months is SUCH a long time. I can't imagine doing another month with these dang toes, but you're so strong for sticking this thing out!
Thank you! I seriously would have been a mess without your support. We started right around the same time & now are ending at the same time. I'm grateful to have you as my tane twinnie as well! I probably would have quit without all the support as well. There were many times when I wanted to quit (especially the last few months) but I stuck it out! And you're welcome! I'm glad I could help support you with the bullshit that we put up with on Accutane! 😀
I'm going to update post-tane, but not all too often. But yes, I'll definitely keep in touch on FB! Thanks again, Betsy!
3 Days Post-Tane.
I went to see a different podiatrist today who fixed what I had going on the with toe that was giving me problems. He said that the healing probably was affected because of the Accutane, and when I told him about the other podiatrist he was completely baffled. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the previous podiatrist who treated me didn't exactly do it the right way. But luckily this guy knows what he's talking about. I'm still on Cephalexin & will be picking up some drops for the toe later and next week I'll go back for a follow-up appointment. I didn't get this nail bed cauterized, it wasn't THAT bad. The doctor told me that the only real way to get rid of these suckers is that surgery where they numb the toe and destroy the nail bed, and that these suckers are most likely genetic. Anyway...I hope that since I'm done Accutane I finally have a chance to heal both of the toes. Keeping my fingers crossed!
So I noticed I had a little clogged pore on my face. Not really a zit. I don't think it's anything to really worry about. I'm not worried!
My lips feel slightly better. The corner of my mouth is still a little dry, but it's not as bad it was when I was taking tane everyday.
I talked with my mom about wanting to get something done about my scars. She's going to a surgeon to get the top of her eyes done, so she said I should come with her. It's weird, because when I had acne I never noticed the scars...now they're much more noticeable. The right side of my face is my good side...the left side has a few little indented scars, as does my forehead.

Glad you were able to get the toe taken care of. It is such a relief to get that done and over with. Hopefully now that you are on a antibiotic its not hurting anymore. I know what it is like to limp around like a idiot with infected toes! It hurts so bad! I am sure the toes will heal up nicely now that you are finished with the tane 🙂
Damn clogged pores. I had one a couple of days ago too! Im excited to hear that your lips are already getting better! I cant wait!
Let me know what happens if you do go with your mom to see a surgeon! I have a few indented shallow scars on my cheeks and forehead. I am hoping once my skin plumps back out after finishing my course that they won't be much of a issue for me. Although knowing myself, I am sure they will bug the hell out of me.
KATIE YOUR SKIN IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!
You have healed yourself! You should be so proud. I AM PROUD OF YOU! Hehehe This accutane experience has been extremely tiring, difficult, worrisome, but worth it, just like you said. I'm so happy to have you as my e-friend, as well as the other lovely ladies of acne.org.
Yes, let us know how the scar talk goes with the surgeon. I have more scars now than I have ever before, but it's mainly because I was stubborn about my cystic acne and didn't try Accutane earlier this year. Before, I had acne, but never noticed bad scars. So I think I can relate to you in that way.
P.S. I wrote about cold sores again on my log...mind taking a look and giving me your opinion? I've never had them before and not sure if I should go to the derm or not.

I am so relieved, and so thankful that my mom was able to put me on her insurance. I can't imagine having to pay hundreds of dollars for seeing a doctor. I feel so much better. The antibiotic and drops (which is pretty much Neosporin in a drop form) is working very well. I have NO PAIN and it feels amazing to be able to put pressure on my toe when I walk. I'll be so happy if in a month or two my feet are back to normal! I want to wear cute shoes again.
Haha, the day after I finished and I get a clogged pore. It went away very fast though.
I will definitely let you know! Sometimes my shallow scars bug me more than they usually do. After I ended my last course in 2009 I noticed them, and they never went away. I actually did go to somewhere for a consultation in 2010 when I had a few zits, but the surgeon told me that I had to have no acne at all in order to get the procedure done. I was bummed. But I'm glad I didn't have anything done, because I wasn't done with acne.

Aw thank you Gina!!!! This Accutane journey has been SUCH a rollercoaster ride! I am very proud to say that I completed six long months of this crazy drug. We're all strong and awesome for holding out to have clear skin! I'm very happy that we were able confide in each other!
The scarring is so much more noticeable when there's no acne. My overall complexion is just not where I want it to be, the texture is uneven and I'd feel better if I went through with some sort of procedure. I'll let you guys know what happens whenever I go!
I just wrote on your log! That is such a bummer about the cold sores, seriously. I would get some Abbreva or a cold sore medicine and try that, maybe? I hope your derm gets back to you with some advice!
Post Accutane update:
I've been done Accutane for well over a week now & I couldn't be happier. My lips are back to normal. It feels amazing not to have to apply some kind of lip crap every 10 minutes. My toes, both of them, have healed completely. No more scabs, no more pain, which leads me to believe that they were 100% caused and unable to heal because of Accutane. I couldn't be happier to have my feet back! Haha. Most importantly, my skin is clear with no acne at all! I am so happy with the results from Accutane and I hope I never have to deal with acne again.
So, the before & after photo? *drumroll* ......
Before (this doesn't show the horrible amount of zits on my jawline that was there at the time)...
& After...
Thank you, Accutane!
AMAZING!!!
I'm so happy to hear that your feetsies have healed up, too!!
Are you not even wearing any makeup? Dang. Looks soooo good! Has any redness diminished, too? I have 9 days left and omg I am so ready to be done! My lower back has been killing me lately from all the house work/remodeling we've been doing. AMEN to your lips returning back to normal!!!!! I'm so ready for that. Oddly enough I haven't had to use eye drops like a month. Accutane is weird like that. I feel it a lot more on some days than others.

Thank you Gina! 🙂 I'm honestly amazed by the results!
Thanks! I am seriously ecstatic to have normal feet again, hahaha. I've been wearing my favorite sneakers and I even wore boots with a heel yesterday! 😀
I had just removed my makeup in those pictures, so there's a little bit of black from where my waterproof liner is. That is so hard to get off all the way. But nope, no makeup! 🙂
Ahhh, 9 days is so close to being done! The final stretch takes SO long! I think the last month for me felt like an eternity, hahaha. You're going to love the normal lip feeling! I almost forgot what it was like to not have to constantly apply Aquaphor or Burt's Bees constantly!
HEY EVERYONEEE..
I know none of us are on here as much, but I'm going to do an update. I went to my derm about a week ago, and we said our farewells! I have been off Accutane for a week, and everything is still great Except this whole week I felt like I've had a massive hangover, I think it may be the my body being confused on not having the pills anymore? From 80mg to 0 in a day is a lot to handle maybe too.. My lips are still pretty dry, same with my skin, but it has been getting less red which is great!
I'm not sure if any of your derms did this for you, but mine gave me like 10 samples of a topical and a prescription for it to use in 1 month when I've been completely off the medicine for 4 weeks. She said it helps with red marks, and that I don't have to worry about breaking out from it because it's for extremely sensitive skin and plus I've been on Accutane.. I'm trying to remember what it's called. ATRALIN, that's what it's called
I will be posting every so often about my skin, but right now I could not be happier, I better get some replies, I miss you all..

Glad to hear you've finished your course! My derm told me Accutane stays in your system for two to three months after you stop taking it, so I think it'll be a while before things go back to normal. Hopefully it won't be too long though. I'm tired of these dry lips! 😛
My derm didn't give me any topical treatments. He wanted to wait and see how my skin did on its own and if any acne came back then he'd prescribe something. Let us know how your topical works once you get it!

Hey Taylor!!!! I miss you!
Glad to hear you're finally off the medicine and things are going well! It feels amazing to have normal lips again!
I actually skipped my last derm appointment. Woops! I just didn't want to get another blood test and then go to the appointment just for her to look at me and say that I'm fine. I hope we both stay clear forever though! 🙂

Taylor! Miss Taylor congratulations on finishing up! I finished just yesterday and I'm so happy to start a life again without acne and without this medication! I'm ready to move on! I see my dermatologist this monday morning and implan on leaving with retin a and Hydroquinone ointment to keep the prose clear and to fade away these marks. I hope my derm gives me a lot of samples like your did. That would be sweet!
How is everything going now that you are off the medication? Are things turning back to normal? Let me know! I miss you lady!! Facebook me
hEY EVERYONE, okay I don't feel like going back and fixing that h ,
Third week off of Accutane as of tomrrow and everything is GREAT.
Atralin is a dream, it seriously has helped with red marks already, it does make my chin peel worse than Accutane, but Cetaphil saves the day. The flushing has finally stopped and my muscle joints are slowlyyy going back to normal. My lips still need chapstick a bit, but it's not insane. My hair still doesn't have to be washed every other day, I haven't washed my hair in 4 days and it's still clean! ( I DO SHOWER ) But yes, my face is looking amazing, and I'm so happyyy!
If anyone needs a topical to help fade marks, atralin is the one! It doesn't break me out, obviously I would hope not, and it works FAST. It is very expensive so make sure to get a prescription and hopefully you have insurance, I do have insurance so it's free, but I know it's around 70$ a tube without it, YIKES.
ANYWHO, I will update every few weeks, and make sure all of you add me on facebook, I'm on there everyday, I have a problem.. <3
much love my CLEAR, beautiful ladies!
One Month Post-Accutane Update!
Wow, can't believe it has already been one month since I stopped the good old 'tane! Things have been GREAT. My face is clear & I can't remember the last time that I got a zit. My face has barely any red marks, if I do have any they are very light. I don't need to moisturize my face, but I still do every now & then.
My lips feel GREAT. I went a while without having to apply chapstick yesterday. What an amazing feeling!
Both of my problem toes with the ingrowns are completely healed & have not been an issue at all. It's amazing to be able to wear all kinds of shoes again.
My scalp is still somewhat dry. I can go 3-4 days without washing it & having it be oily. I've also noticed that the texture of my hair feels different, and I am not losing as much hair as I was while I was on Accutane. I was literally pulling 4-5 strands out of my hair (sometimes) during the day when I would run my fingers through my hair. Yikes. But my hair is still thick and it feels healthy! No problems.
Accutane was the best thing to ever happen to me. I am comfortable in my skin, and much happier with my life. I have nothing bad to say about the drug. The side effects were minimal. I was hit with a strange side effect of the ingrowns and lack of healing for almost half of my course, which was hard to deal with, but I wouldn't take it back.
I joined a gym last week & signed up for a personal trainer, once a week. I want to better myself now that I don't have acne. I would never have wanted to go to a gym with acne. It's a blessing to be able to put a little bit of concealer & powder on my face before going to the gym.
My social life is also much easier. Anyone in the world who has ever had, or who has acne knows what it feels like to talk to someone and notice they are looking at the condition of your face. It's nice to talk to people without feeling embarrassed because of acne. Like I said, I'm so much more comfortable in my skin now.
What can I say? Accutane has changed my life for the best.

Much love to your girlie!
Katie!!!!! I'm so glad you did a one month post accutane update! I just finished my sixth month on Friday (Oct. 26) and I have to say the best thing so far is not having to remember to take a pill twice a day. It's only been three days so I still feel basically the same with the sore muscles and joints and cut and scratched skin on my arms and my poor peeling lips. My face is still dry for now too. I am terrified of the acne coming back so it was so encouraging to hear you are doing so well after a month. My derm said my skin will still be changing for a while and she doesn't want me on anything but face wash and moisturizer for the time being. I have a follow up appointment in three months.
Did your derm put you on any topicals? I know Betsy is using Retin A. I feel like I should be on something but I don't really want to be - Retin A made my skin really oily when I tried it before and didn't really help me. I would love to just have to use moisturizer for the rest of my life but I want my pores to stay clear too.
I'm so glad your ingrowns cleared up!! That was such a pain for you and I'm sure you were worried it wouldn't go away so it's awesome that it did! I hope everything keeps going great for you!!!
OMG i've read this entire log, lol, its taken me about two weeks! You guys seem so lovely and its been nice to read the support you have given one another. Im two weeks into my accutane course, reading this log and all of your experience I know it will be worth it and I can't wait for the end result. Its helped me learn a lot about what to expect and I feel prepared for all that may come my way over the next 5 months.
Thanks for a good read guys!!
Hello! I miss my buddies on here & it's been a while since I've posted but I've been off Accutane for a little over 2 months. I have not had one pimple. I'm incredibly grateful for the condition that my face is in.
I went to a surgeon to see what could be done about my scars, and unfortunately, I cannot have any procedure done on my face until one year post Accutane. Bummer. I am planning on having something done for the slight amount of indented scars. They're not awful, but of course we're all our own worst critics, so they stick out now that I have no acne.
As hard as it was to go through six months of Accutane, I would do it again if I had to.
So happy for you! I'm in month one and have a TON of breakouts-- can't wait for clear skin like you! What did the plastic surgeon say about your scarring? Are you going to get anything done? Thank you!!
Thanks!!! Month one was horrible for me. The first three months are the worst, but after that things start to get better! The plastic surgeon cannot do anything for my scarring until next year. Ugh. Oh well!

Aww! I'm glad our experiences with Accutane could help other people thinking about going on the drug or just starting their course. I hope your course is going smoothly with no crazy side effects!
Katie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad you are doing follow up posts! I am 37 days post tane and so far so good. I am super happy to hear you haven't had one problem. Did you have oily skin before and has any of it come back? Besides praying I don't break out, I am praying my oily skin doesn't come back. I was really oily before and it was a big pain in the butt. I'm sure some it must have come back a little cuz I 'm not super dry anymore but right now I'm just right - not oily and not dry, it's incredible. My biggest issue was hair shedding in the last month and then it kept going in the month after that but thankfully it seems to have stopped. I have lost a noticeable amount of volume but so far it seems to only be noticeable to me. I am hoping it all grows back quickly but at this point I am very happy it seems to have stopped now that the accutane is out of my system. I still have one more blood test to do - I'll be happy to get that over with and not to have to go to the stupid lab once a month! I hope things stay good with your skin and I hope school is going well!

I hope things stay good with your skin and I hope school is going well!
Stacey!!!!! 😀
I definitely want to keep up with the post-tane posts! I'm glad that everything has been good for you, as well. My skin was semi-oily before tane, but no oil has returned after 2 months. I still can go 4 days without washing my hair, which is surprising. The hair loss had become an issue for me, as well. Especially at the end of my course. It has definitely gotten much better. I'm not losing as much as I was. I'm so happy that we both got through Accutane & now things are looking good! Yay to us.
Whew! I'm happy to hear your hair shedding slowed down too. I was starting to freak out there for a few weeks. And of course I tortured myself by reading all the horror stories of people losing their hair for months to years afterwards. It's pretty normal for accutane to cause excessive shedding but once the medicine is out of your system it is also typical for it to all return to normal. I have fine hair but I never realized how much of it I had, every time I saw how much was in the shower drain I felt sick but like I said, it seems to have slowed down and returned to my normal shedding so now I'll just have to wait for it to all grow back in. But I am loving my skin for now!! Overall I am still so glad I did it. Not having a painful mess on my face is unbelievable! I'm glad your oil hasn't returned yet either. I'm crossing my fingers it all stays good for both of us and all our other buddies that finished. 🙂
