Thanks Tim! I kinda abandoned it for a few months because I was at such a stand still and things were crazy but new things are happening, so I plan on keeping everything up to date as long as there are things to update everyone on.
I'm not really using anything to exfoliate. Everyday I wash my face with a thin towel. It's cheap and not soft at all. I will have my follow up appointment next week and I plan on asking my dermatologists what I can do to even everything out on my face. I'm not going to do anything drastic for at least another month though. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks Jamie! I'm happy of off of that medicine too!! lol I hope the rest of your course goes super smoothly. It will be over before you know it.
So I'm almost 3 weeks post accutane.. Still clear. I went to a social on Tuesday and some told me that I had the clearest skin they'd ever seen. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like my skin better now than I did at the end of my course. So for all of you who are discouraged, hang in there! It may very well get better!

I'll hope my results will be as great as yours when I'm finished In some of your pics you resemble Gabrielle Union
I think it's been almost a month post accutane....
Had my last dermatologist appointment today!!! Oh yeah!!!!!!! Still clear. I asked him about what I can do for evening out my skin since the sun did so much in terms of discoloration.. He gave me (sold me) this fade cream.. it's a bleaching agent, a steroid, and a retinoid. Nothing too strong. Just have to use it once a day on my cheeks and temples.. (see previous pics to see discoloration).
He also said that I can keep using the cerave and to not use any acne products unless I start breaking out.. so there u have it, don't do anything until you have to. And that totally makes since to me. The accutane is working, so why would I start using cleansers to disrupt that???
Well that is all. Hope everyone is well..
Oh and did I mention... I am graduating Saturday from college. I said in previous posts that this semester was the toughest taking 6 classes, I cried everyday, the accutane sucked because of mental side effects, BUT I still finished this semester with a 4.0!!! Which finally brought my overall GPA up to a 3.5! I can officially say I am graduating with honors. And it feels so good.

Congrats! And Good Luck to you
Eva, Hopeful, and Again - Thank you! I love this site and the people who use it! I could not have gotten through these past 8 months without the encouragement and understanding of everyone who reads and comments on my log! So again thanks!
I'm still clear for the most part. I did have literally 1 small blemish come that I think was hormonal. Chest and back are still clear as well. My oil is kinda starting to come back. I haven't started using the fade cream from the dermatologist. I'm so scared to mess up what accutane has done for my skin. I'll keep you all posted. I should probably post a pic. I will.. soon.
ok...I always post the most unflattering pictures but here ya go... me at the end of the day.. hair a mess.. FACE IS CLEAR THOUGH!!! yay!!

Still CLEAR! Oil is coming back.. and I actually don't mind it..especially during these winter months. I still haven't started using the fade cream.. Still too scared. lol I really need to start.. Who spends $40 on a tiny jar of cream and decides not to use it?!
2 Months Post Accutane..
Still clear. Getting legitimately oily now. I will just have to face the fact that I have oily skin. I just have oily skin. My skin is oily. Not dry.. Not normal.. Oily. It's oily.
At this day and time, my skin is not oily enough to need to blot my face or anything BUT... it's definitely oily.. definitely have a shine to my face again. That's really unfortunate but.. my make up is lasting longer..or at least not looking dull and/or powdery/not sinking into my skin.. i'm really thinking about using an acne facewash..but I know I can't use just anything while using this fade cream. Maybe in a month? I don't know. I need to do another follow up with my derm but that won't be for a while seeing that I am now living 5 hours away from his offices.
Anyways.. I see most of the people I follow on this site are either finished or near finishing their accutane course. This makes me so happy! I'm so happy for everyone!
Hello!! It's been a little over a month since i've updated.. I'm 3 1/2 months post accutane. Here are the pics. Freshly washed face. No makeup. I have all of two blemishes on my entire face.. Boy how things have changed.. I am in love with my skin. And I still only use the cerave foaming face wash and thier facial moisturizers.. I'm still on all of the same bottles from my accutane days.. Great investment/purchase.

I hope everyone is doing well! I'm still alive. Grad school hasn't made me crawl in a hole and disappear yet. haha
Hi all! Quick update: My face isn't clear. It's not horrible either. The accutane definitely worked for the most part. I would say I have mild acne now. When my oil really started to come back, my skin completely changed from the glorious accutane skin it was. My face stayed almost completely clear for about 5 months post accutane. I'm starting to get a few blackheads. I'm really oily again, but no where near how oily I was pre-accutane. I do sometimes get pimples. I think I've had not quite 10 legit pimples that were "pop worthy" haha but I've definitely had some. I stopped taking birth control 2 months ago. My face went a little crazy during that time, but eventually calmed down. I'm mostly dealing with clogged pores at this point. I'm still using CeraVe. No acne washes. I have started using a glycolic adic toner once a day (when I remember) and that's about it. I'll post pics soon.
Oh, body acne - back is still clear (yay!!!!!!) chest has been breaking out ever since I stopped taking my birth control. =/ No big deal though.
I keep telling myself that the skin I have now - blemishes and all - was the skin I prayed for before I experienced accutane. The skin accutane gives you while you're on it is nearly perfection if not ACTUAL perfection. A year ago, I was just praying for skin that didn't make me stand out as the girl with the acne. I am not that girl with the acne anymore. So I'm happy with that.
I hope everyone is doing well!
Pictures!
My face on a not so good skin day (This was last week) =/

I always post really unflattering pictures! haha What you see is what you get! Really!
Love the hair Whitney! Yes accutane is definitely not a miracle for everyone, it wasn't for me. I recommend that if you can, find a good skin care regimen that works for you, eat healthier and stress less. My one regret regarding my accutane treatment was not following up with topicals to keep my pores clear. I may or may not be restarting treatment in a month but if i go that route, i will be following up with a topical because i believe my acne is here to stay with me over the long term so......
What's your skin care like?
Wow. Just reread all of the posts on this accutane log and I must say, it's strange. I am not happy with my skin right now and will be going to the dermatologist tomorrow in hopes of trying accutane one last time before giving up this intense war with acne. I promise to post pictures tomorrow. It's just really late right now and I don't feel like posting super horrible pictures (although if you've read this log, you know I don't really care).
It's almost 2 years to the day that I started this journey on this site. I hope the love and positive vibes are still here. I will definitely log my journey to clear skin again. I don't know if it will be through this log or through a blog (the site has changed since my days of using it). Any suggestions? I hope everyone is well.
Whitney
hey whitney, don't fret, many people have to take a 2nd course. I am actually on my 3rd but this time I will doing an ultra low dose for an extended period of time. I have oily skin just like yours so my acne comes back (albeit much less) after accutane. Accutane does not kill our sebaceous glands, but shrinks them. However, this is only temporary and they return to normal size after finishing a course. That is why I am doing a maintenance course just for oily skin. yes, my acne ain't as bad as before, but I ain't happy with the oily skin and the blemishes it persistently creates. If you are interested, check out my blog.
Good luck! You can do it!

Thank you! My oil has not come back as bad as it was. I still don't absolutely have to blot my face throughout the day. I'm glad you understand though. I was actually kinda hesitant to start another log because I was afraid of having to defend my decision to get on accutane because of my not so bad acne.
Lots of love and light your way. Good luck on your course as well!
no need to defend yourself. you've been on accutane before, you know the drug, and you know how your body reacts to it. you have more experience and doing a 2nd round is very common. Just monitor your side affects and keep calm ^^ if you have questions, ask your doc straight away.
