Alrighty, I actually did what I said I would! Pictures without makeup, right here! (I am wearing mascara on my eyelashes, but that has nothing to do with my skin or acne.)
You'll notice two by the end of my right eyebrow. They're weird in that they kind of hurt a bit and aren't going away very fast. I was super scared the lower one was a cyst before it came to a head yesterday. The one above my right eyebrow is AHA related (as are the line of fading ones above that eyebrow). The one next to my lip is a random little hormonal one. There's one healing on my chin, but it's almost gone, so I'm not worried about it.
I'm chalking them all up to hormones right now. I have a bit of time left with the AHA so I'll test it again and see what happens before I send it back. I wish it just worked!!
Here you go:
They're not side by side with old ones. I wasn't THAT ambitious today.
I did have a spurt of productivity tonight while looking for some eyeshadow. I went through my gigantic "Woman Drawer" (as my friend Jon calls it) and trashed anything old or that I hadn't used in forever. I threw out 3 things of old mascara, 2 different concealers (barely need those anymore!), a few lotions that were from my freshman year of college...in 2001! It's so liberating. Especially the face stuff (old powders, concealers, tinted moisturizers, etc) because I DON'T NEED THEM!! I mean, sure I need foundation, but light dusting of mineral powder is enough; and when concealer is needed, a heavier application of powder is enough. Woo!
BTW, I also re-ordered some samples of Everyday Minerals to try and find my right color. I also changed to the Matte formulation instead of the semi-glo to see if that helps with the shine. Will let you guys know how that turns out.
Grr. Well, either slacking off a bit last week has come around to bite me in the ass, or what, but I've got some uglies right now. That one on my check that sat under my skin for the longest time? Finally came up. Big, red, not really painful and took a few days to come to a head. I was finally able to pop it and eeeeeeew. I don't miss doing that!
Now I've got a big one on my forehead that's quite similar, except this one hurts a bit more when I touch it.
I don't know WTF is up, but I don't like it. And its already time to reorder BP. That sucks, too.
Oh well. Good news is that the AHA has stopped making me break out, so I can use it every 3rd or 4th night and as a spot treatment whenever needed. Also, got more Bare mineral samples to I can use those again. They work better for me.
Thanks for reading! Maybe some pics later this week. definitely not now, cause i am hungover and puffy as HELL... Hee. good nights are good.
You have a great log - and your face looks amazing I know what it's like with the hormonal acne crap. I swear - men have NO IDEA what we have to deal with
Keep it up! You look great!
I am trying to figure out what is going on with my skin - I was using all DKR products like you - wash, bp - and was totally clear - up until the end of March 2009. Dan said that he had taken out the "urea" in the wash and when I try using the current DK wash - I get horrible cystic bumps now Hopefully I can get this stuff figured out!
Love the log!
Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time to read through this whole thing. I'm so super glad that my progress is still encouraging people
Things are going ok. Early this week kind of sucked because when I thought that I didn't get hormonal acne last time and I was so happy, well, I was just 2 weeks late. So I did end up getting it, but it wasn't so bad. I had 4 active pimples, 3 of them were pretty big. But they're going away now, thanks to AHA and getting the crap out of them (I know, bad, but otherwise it takes MONTHS for them to go away!) But now everything is healing and feeling smooth again. I'm finally seeing some relief from the red marks with increased usage of the AHA, so that makes me happy.
I'm struggling a bit financially, and am almost out of BP, so I'm going to be doing an experiment. I'm dropping down to 1/2 pump morning and night to see what happens. If it works, that's how I'll continue. If it doesn't, I'll ramp up to 1 pump and see if that works. I would like to see what I really need for my skin to be this clear without automatically assuming I need to spend $20 every 2 months plus shipping. I have to prioritize expenses right now, and BP just isn't one of them, you know?
I'll take some pictures regularly to show the effects of this experiment on my skin. Hopefully I won't see a significant difference. Also, if I get the 2nd job I've applied for, I'll just order more BP and not fuss around with this.
Hey Halon,
More compliments can't hurt. Just wanted to let you know that your log was a huge reason for me testing out Dan's Regimen and products. It has been great to see your progress over so many months - your skin is looking so nice - you sould be very proud ! This is a great log, please continue to keep us updated on how things continue to progress. Thanks!
Thanks for all the new people stopping by. I'm so sorry I haven't been responsive for the last couple weeks. I finally got a 2nd job so I'm really busy. Fortunately that also means I was able to reorder recently.
And let me tell you, that is a very VERY good thing. I've been doing my "light regimen" lately, and its been going terribly. I've not had a breakout as bad as right now since March. My hormonal acne was awful and I can feel stuff growing under my skin all over.
So, I haven't grown out of my acne or anything, and I haven't changed my makeup. This means, I know for a fact that it is Dan's Acne.org Regimen that has been keeping me so clear. Its not like my body chemistry changed, my lifestyle changes haven't matterd. I NEED the large amounts of BP and the mild cleanser/moisturizer. It really works. Really, really it does.
I'm at a wedding in South Dakota and had a few pictures taken, so I'll probably post them. They look a lot like the ones from last summer when I was broken out at my cousin's wedding.
I have BP waiting for me back in CO, and I will be quickly ramping up back to the full 2 pumps. I cannot wait!!!
So thanks again to everyone stopping by, and I look forward to continuing the regimen and inspiring more people to do the same!
Hey Halon2,
Let me just start off by saying your story is truly, TRULY inspirational to me. I've been thinking about going on the regimen for almost a year now and never really got the guts to try it. But I'm glad to say that I think that I'm ready to take a leap of faith and it's all thanks to you! All the progress you made has really given me hope so thanks for sticking to it and setting an example for gals like me! (Cheesy I know!) Now all I need is mom's approval!
Thanks again!
~Apple
That is really really sweet, aisforapple! If your mom is hesitant about trying this, then show HER the log. I just showed it to a cousin of mine this weekend who has always struggled with acne similar to mine and she ordered it today! And if she has any questions, let her ask them right here with me or a mod or something. My mom was worried I was spending what she considered too much for this "face stuff" but when I showed her my pictures, she stopped worrying.
I'd also suggest for anyone who has to ask a parent for help getting the regimen, ask them for one of the 8 oz packages as your trial amount. It should last 3 months, which will hopefully be enough to clear anyone up quite a bit if used properly. The most important thing is, if you're relying on someone else to fund your purchase, you have the responsibility of showing them exactly how well it can work. This means, you have to follow the regimen to a T as described by Dan and maybe even log your own progress. It doesn't have to be public on this forum, but take a few pictures once a week and keep them on your computer as comparisons. That way when your initial 8 oz bottles run out, you can do a legitimate evaluation of whether or not it works for you (it will!) and show your parents the progress.
That's my long winded advice
So, as I promised, some pictures of what's going on with my "light" regimen. This light stuff, by the way, has ended tonight. I'm hoping a great number of what I've got right now will go away by Friday the 10th. We have a friend's wedding that night. And it all had better be gone by the 25th, when I'm going to be front row at a Kenny Chesney concert. Seriously.
I didn't take a chin one because there's nothing there. This is more evidence that the horrible chin breakout I had last fall was a weird anomaly brought on by stress and hormones (18 credits, ethics bowl, the political elections and work, Grandfather's death, and general unhappiness all combined). Hopefully that'll never happen again as long as I manage my stress.
Sorry these aren't great, but I fell asleep at 6:00, woke up at 10:00 and had to force myself to do the regimen (just got my new BP in today) before I go back to bed here in a bit. As you can see, I have fairly big ones on each cheek, and one healing right next to my hairline on my forehead. I've had to pop a few this week because they hurt to be touched and I haven't had to do that in forever. Looking back at my 5/23 pics, I cannot wait to get back to that point. Apparently, I also need to work on my brows a bit Good to know that.
Thanks for reading the marathon update/encouragement post and hope everyone is doing well!
New "re-start" regimen:
Morning: Cleanse, 1 pump BP, moisturize. Sunscreen when necessary.
Night: Cleanse, 1 pump BP, moisturize. AHA as moisturizer every 3rd day.
Taking 1 Aleve at night to help with swelling of hormonal acne (much of which this stuff is).
Hey halon2!!
I've been away for a month and have just read through all of your logs I missed out on - you're still going so well, its so awesome!
I've had to reduce my BP application for the same reasons you had too - fingers crossed!
You're going great and your progress still inspires me too!
xx Marti
Helloooooooooo everyone! I hope those of you who have purchased the regimen recently are sticking with it and doing well!
Things could not be going better on this end. Just 2 weeks after restarting the regimen with 1 pump BP morning and night, and I can't even tell you guys how much better I look. It's crazy. Seriously, I never thought I would be able to do this. Today I wandered around all day with just mascara on. A few days ago, I barbequed on the patio knowing that the guy I'm interested in and have been flirting with would show up, but I'd just showered and didn't want to put makeup on again. So I just put mascara on and didn't even worry. My skin has NEVER been this clear!
Friday evening was a friend's wedding. I was in charge of the sound system and music, so after the ceremony I had to move everything around. It was 85 degrees and extremely muggy, so I started sweating badly. I tried to reapply makeup, but it was too sticky, so I just wiped off my face with a paper towel. Then after dancing, I was soaked, so I went to do it again. At the end of the night, all I had left on was eye makeup (I can't believe that stayed!) and still looked fabulous!! I had a couple people tell me I looked glowy, too!
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH SOOOOOOO HAPPY! Of course the stuff I broke out with during my "light" regimen is still fading and you can see the red marks, but just the fact that I have not one single active pimple on my face right now is incredible. I know bronzeneo talked at one point about having calm skin, and I have definitely achieved that!
BTW, the confidence boost from being clear has been great. The dating situation is on a serious upswing and I have more time do do it because I don't have to take 20 minutes to get my makeup just right! I can literally put mascara on in 2 minutes and leave. NEVER EVER EVER in my life have I done that.
So, once again, a gigantic and heartfelt sincere thank you to Acne.org and the people who bring us these products and this regimen. My life has truly changed this summer because of your products!
(I took pictures the other night and will post when I get them uploaded to my comp.)
Congrats on your clear skin! The progress you've made is so amazing! I would love to have that kind of confidence with my skin one day. I hate going out with no makeup and feeling ashamed the whole time!
By the way I've started my regimen with the ok from my mom. The funny thing is that she's not even funding my stuff but still I feel that I should include her. Just have to get used to making decisions for myself I guess! And thanks again for sharing your whole story! I think it did help convince her.
Halon, I have a questionnn! Um, I've been on the regimen for 3 months now, and my skin is looking soooo much better. I too do not have one single pimple on my face. Only red marks from old acne. Its an amazing feeling.
However, one thing I noticed is, the parts of my face where I apply BP has way duller skin than the places where I dont apply it. Like my forehead and RIGHT below my eye, the skin is so nice and soft and glowy. Thats because I don't apply BP there.
I want, the rest of my skin to be like that!
I feel like I'm just rambling on, hopefully you get what I'm trying to say, but, do you notice this as well?
Hey guys!
Just wanted to drop in and give y'all an update on the regimen.
I've been sticking with it, but having some timing issues because it's summer. Late mornings and even later nights means that sometimes I'm doing the regimen at 2 am and then supposed to again at 9 am. Well, that just doesn't make much sense. So there has been some skipping, but not much.
I've settled at about 1-1 1/2 pumps of BP twice daily, AHA at night (every night) and Dan's moisturizer in the morning. I could use more BP and I think it would be just that much better, but until I am more financially secure, I can handle a zit or two. My hormonal acne was a little bit worse this month, with the problems being mainly on my forehead, which is REALLY weird. There weren't many of them, but they hurt. I had to pop a couple of them just to relieve the pain.
Other than that, I'm pretty clear. Still healing from the bad stuff in June, and am having some very small pimples on my nose and inner cheeks. It's weird and I'm sure if i were a bit more diligent those would go away.
Overall, I'm still VERY happy with the regimen. I need to re-order moisturizer, but I'm still thinking of finding something in stores. I don't know. I'm just kind of apathetic about it all right now.
However, I am looking WAY better than I was last year at this point. Still using minimal mineral makeup and very happy with that. Thanks to everyone that's been following this. I'll try and get some pictures up this week.
Oops, sorry! Didn't mean to!
I did notice that for the first couple months, but with the AHA it's much better. I do notice that with the BP, I bruise more easily (like when I rub my eyes too hard) and that without moisturizer I look like my skin is way more leathery than it is. It's NOT leathery, it just looks that way.
See if you can get some AHA and that might help. My other suggestion is to see what the minimum amount of BP you can use and be happy with your skin. I've dropped down to 1 or 1 1/2 pumps. You might need the whole 2 or less than 1. Play around (but be prepared for a zit or two until you figure it out!).
Good luck!!!

Haha, I do use AHA, every third night though.
Also, I dont apply BP to my forehead or nose so right now I use a about a pump. I'm not sure if thats too much or not.
Hey I hear ya- I'm 24 and I've tried ProActiv- however, I'm a much bigger fan of AcneFree which I found at like Walmart or something originally. I've gotten a lot of people to switch cuz it's half the price and you can pick it up at Target or CVS..... however, recently I switched to AcneFree Redness Relief because a friend was telling me Sulphur and Tea Tree Oil actually work a lot better than BP but BP is cheaper to manufacture. I'm still having problems with some hormonal acne around my chin but the rest of my face has cleared up to the point of not needing foundation. Now if only I could find something that gets rid of all my past red marks on my chin I'd be set. Good luck!
