What has worked for me: SEA SALT

So would this not work with any salt other than sea salt? I'm having trouble finding large quantities of sea salt online at a reasonable price (in the UK.) A google search led me to this page, which seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, but I thought it was a bit weird that it's on a bird food website. Can anyone tell me if this would be suitable?

If someone could let me know whether or not the sea salt on this page is ok to use, I'd really appreciate it. I want to start using the stuff as soon as possible!

so i broke out :wall: . about 5 pimples on my back and 1 big ol underground cyst on my chest which hurts like a mofo. i guess, it matches the other 3 scars i got there. maybe its the cheap sea salt im using, i dont know. its like day 10 or around there havent really kept track, still 30 oz. for 25-30min everyday. texture has improved, but scars are still there. but hey im still gonna keep at it because its still early. i wash with nizoral about 3 times a week too, other than that i use the dial antibacterial body wash(spring water smells so good)... and i got kinda upset so i covered my chest and back full of s.a. last night. i also bodybuild and i have turned it up a notch on my training so it might be that too. but like i said, its still early and/or it might be my cheap sea salt that i bought.

btw, sebastian and ratherbesurfing, other than sea salt and nizoral, do u guys use anything else? afterwards? like bp or a lotion?

Salt does work! I had acne under my arms and I started using one of those natural salt deodorants. The skin under my arms started to look great so I began to use it on my face. It is great - salt has anti fungal and bacterial properties. Almost nothing can live in the dead sea because it is full of you guessed it, salt.

I have also found that diet plays a major role in MY acne, so I don't have to use the salt as much. It can be drying, but nothing like Benzoyl peroxide or retinol products.

Tip: if you use the salt deoderant, get the cube or flat shape. The surface is bigger so you can do your face in seconds.

I'm thinking about replacing the Cetaphil cleanser with natural sea salt (dilute with warm water) - did you experience any breakouts on your face using the salt?

Other than Neutrogena's Body Wash from time to time, I don't use anything else on my skin. But I want to start using B-Complex and Pantethine very soon.

Your acne will still have cycles, but they will not be as bad as before. They will gradually diminish. Keep using it and you'll see constant improvements.

Here is a question that might come across as dumb.

I have high cholesterol. Will sea salt keep my cholesterol high, even though it's not digested?

It is called deodorant because it prevents odor- it is really only a block of salt. It might make salt application easier.

First off... Hi I'm new here.

Been suffering from severe acne on my back for about 10 years.

I'm a 29 year old guy who actually had to quit modelling because of my condition. At first it wasn't a problem because we wear makeup on photoshoots. But when the demand for me to pose shirtless became high and I could not deliver, I was essentially tossed aside.

I lied and made so many excuses as to why I wouldn't pose that way, and a male model who won't pose without a shirt on is useless to most companies.

About a year ago I started dating a girl who is a trained esthetician. She put me onto the whole sea salt thing. Apparently it not only helps open the pores, kill bacteria, and dry the skin out a bit. It also actually sucks most impurities right out of the skin.

She got me started on it and I can honestly say I know it works. To prove how effective it was, because I was doubtfull, she had me soak my foot for three days in very hot water with sea salt in it. I had two plantar warts on that foot. Within the three days, the core of each plantar, popped out of my foot and cleared up.

Sea salt works.

She too had severe face and body acne. Very much like mine. Large cystic acne that caused her extreme pain.

She did sea salt for about a year, with careful facial extractions using a lancet and magnifying mirror. Now this girl has beautiful skin. Not a pimple or red mark on it.

I can ask her again to explain the exact science behind it if anyone is in fact interested.

What her and I do is buy a 4 or 5 pound bag of sea salt from the local drug store every few days, one bag is good for about 3 to 4 baths. We go pretty heavy on the salt because it is cheap and we want to be sure we have enough in the bath.

Soak for about 15 minutes, mildly exfoliate with a back brush, soak for another 10 or so, rinse off in the shower, and use a mild cleanser. I usually use the Aveeno stuff with oatmeal, or when really bad, Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser, which I have found to be the BEST cleanser out there when you want to clear up a breakout.

After showering, use a good lotion, something light. I use Garnier PureA. Get the PureA as opposed to just the Pure, because it has a light salicylic acid in it. Do not buy the PureA Night Cream. It is too heavy.

I have been lazy, stressed, and working strange hours for the last 6 months, so my condition has mostly come back. But I know that if I go back to the baths every night for about 3-4 weeks, I will be clear again.

Seriously try it. Be strict about it. Do it right. You WILL clear up.

Sorry for the novel like post. :)

Maybe our ancestors took swims and baths in the ocean. That would get rid of acne and BO.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

ExModel, interesting story. How well did your back clear after usong sea salt?

Does this also mean that you have to use it continously?

I'd be interested in hearing what your GF has to say about sea salt and what kind of exctractions she performed.

I'd be interested in hearing what your GF has to say about sea salt and what kind of exctractions she performed.

My back, which was classified as "severe", was covered with cystic acne. Basically, not a square inch of it was clean. I had scars, large red marks, huge bumps, and there honestly wasn't a place on my back I could scratch or touch without litterally getting a bunch of gross puss or blood on my fingers.

After doing the Sea Salt for a month, the bumps were gone, the small hard leftover bits were gone, the redness was gone, and even the scars tightened up so they weren't as visible.

A small grain of sand or something like a sesame seed, was pulled out of every single one of my cysts and pimples. They would just come to the surface and pop out by themselves pretty much. Just some gentle pressure was usually enough to get them to come right out.

Because my situation was very bad, I still had some visible marks. But nothing more than someone who had very mild back pimples. This was mainly because I have been a picker and scratcher since they started.

I found you do have to keep up a maintenance routine with the sea salt. Because the condition will return. You won't have to do it every single day. But once or twice a week for a while, tapering off from there. You can always get back onto the salt baths if you notice a breakout coming.

I asked my GF to email me some info she has on the sea salt methods used in skin care. She didn't send me the info, but sent me a "formula" for a really good extraction bath. The recipe is on my computer at home and I will post it later. She had great success with it, and has shared it with alot of her friends who also have had great success with it.

***EDIT***

Ok I am now at home and editing this post instead of creating a new one....

Here is that "Formula" I spoke of.

Bath Soak to Remove Toxins

3/4 cup sea salt

1 cup table salt

1 cup baking soda

4 tbsp cream of tartar

8oz. hydrogen peroxide

-dissolve in bath while water is running, soak in bath for at least 30 minutes.

From what she has told me... afterwards you will really notice gunk coming out of your skin. So this soak once a week or as needed for the first while to really clear things up.

Be carefull when using a scrub brush or anything because this may make your skin sort of soft and easily irritated.

I will be doing this soak starting this weekend and I'll post my progress. Hopefully with pictures.

so, i have some questions regarding this sea salt method..

right now i'm using ACNEFREE's 3-step process

- 2.8% BP cleanser

- SD alcohol based toner

- 3.7% BP cream

on a daily basis, followed up by a 2.2% SA moisturizer

every two days or so, i also shave using Neutrogena For Men's acne fighting shaving cream

if i start taking a salt bath a day, should i get rid of any of the above processes, or should i keep them all?

also, salt dries out your skin, correct? i hate having dry, itchy, flaky skin, which is why i use the SA moisturizer. is that bad? my mom tells me that dry skin actually helps prevent acne, but i don't think i could live with skin that dry.

any comments would be much appreciated, thanks

I have actually noticed a huge improvement in the quality of my skin since using the salt method.

I agree that your skin will get dry but it's not the dry "winter skin" you are probably thinking of.

Your skin actually feels healthy and smooth.

I do use a moisturizer on my legs, arms and any other part that isn't infected with acne.

Because I did notice my hands and legs were excessively dry - but not at all to the point where they were flaky.

Don't forge - you are drying up the excessive oil that is clogging your pores. This is a good thing!

I don't get acne on my face just on my neck and have tried everything to clear it up, I get a little on my chest and maybe one or two on the back but how would I go about this? maybe soak a clean wash cloth in the sea salt mix and put it on my neck let it sit for a while and then do it all over again? Elf - If I don't get a chance to soak in a bath - I use a mild soap on my skin - mostly my face and neck then use a half of a handful of the salt (epsom) as I would any other cleanser.

I add a little of the water to the salt in my hand and cleanse as normal... but gently.

Then I rinse and repeat 2 or 3 times before bed and let it air dry.

It's worked great for me thus far!

She said something about the cream of tartar working as an extractor of sorts... It's an acid salt, acid potassium tartrate, or something like that.... or maybe it will just make you a little more light and fluffy

I tried this soak on the weekend. It seems to have an effect for me. Not to say it will work for everyone, but for me there was a change. I'm doing this soak twice a week and salt baths in between. We'll see how this works.

Any improvement is a HUGE improvement to me.

Thanks for explaining the cream of tartar part--I knew there must be good reason for it.

The regimen you posted here sounds like what I had in mind, so that's what I will try. I'm actually trying to get rid of stubborn folliculitis (on my backside--I'm not fond of declaring it, but...). I've been using apple cider vinegar like a toner twice a day and sea salt baths. I don't think I have been using enough sea salt but I am seeing improvement in the skin overall. So, I'm psyched to add this recipe--thank you to you and your girlfriend's input.

I think what I really like about these ingredients is that they are inexpensive, easily obtainable, and natural. If I can avoid it, I don't want to be attached to a product that is proprietary and expensive.
