Hey everyone, this is my first topic post on the org but that being said, I've been frequenting this website for probably 3 years or so.
I've been on the regimen for a bit over a year now and it worked wonders on my face but I saw no noticeable results after using it for 6 months on my back. My situation is that I've never had bacne until my freshman year of college. Usually it had been confined to my face but after clearing that up it seemed to explode all over my back. I had moderately severe acne with the mix of cysts and whiteheads. My back was also littered with blackheads too. Over the summer I didn't take my shirt off once, and that's saying something since I live at the beach. I wont go through the list of things that didn't work for me but what finally helped was extra virgin olive oil.
UPDATE: I switched from letting the olive oil sit on my skin and sleeping in it to just washing with it. This seemed to help clear up the rest on my back acne in addition to using Vitamin A. I heard that vitamin A is similar to Accutane so I decided to give it a go and take more than the recommended dosage. I'd like to state that an overdose of it can cause liver damage and that I'm well aware of the potential dangers. I now take ~24,000 IU's of vitamin A, or 3 small soft-gels.
I thought that the extra virgin olive oil would clear up everything by itself but it seemed to stop and maintain an almost clear back. I believe that the vitamin A could be the final nail in the coffin for my back acne as I have seen slow improvements from my almost clear back, to a mostly clear back. Back acne has been the hardest battle I have faced because it seems to be so persistent and immune to anything topical I have thrown at it. I encourage everyone that is struggling like I was, to give what I have found a chance. If your acne is causing depression, embarrassment, or ruining your social life by making you cover up even when it's hot out like it was to me, then giving it a chance can't hurt.
Stay strong everyone.
I am glad that EVOO works for you. Is your bacne you 100% clear? I have tried so many products in the past (even accutane) and it is a STUBBORN problem. The regimen I am on causes skin dryness but I can live with that since I am 100% clear of bacne. I may be tempted to try EVOO on a small area on my back to see if that would help with my post-inflammatory red marks.
I'll try and respond to the questions in which they were asked.
No my back isn't 100% clear, I believe that a good routine takes time just like it did with my face. That being said the results were really amazing for me. Currently I'm probably about 80% clear and only improving. This is coming from a back littered with, at one time, dozens of cysts and whiteheads at once.
I only shower once a day. I used to twice a day but I had a feeling I was stripping my back of oils causing my oil production to go into overdrive to compensate. When I switched to showering once a day I noticed a small decrease in acne.
I also don't use a wash on my back anymore. Originally I tried the Head and Shoulders like everyone else on this board, but to no avail. I also used a salicylic wash from Neutrogena for 2 months but that didn't seem to have any sort of effect either.
I have noticed improvements with hyper pigmentation! Before the EVOO, my dark marks would take several months just to heal, no I'm noticing them fading in closer to 1 month.
