maybe cuz they live a simple life.
they make everything themselves, so their diet and lifestyle is errr simple and organic. no genetic mutations. no pollutions. no pesticides. possibly even no fertilizers. it's GENIUNE (sp?) food.
no stress either.
they prob just wash their faces with soap, so their skin doesn't touch all these friggin chemicals we use.
Acne is hereditary. The amish tend to only marry other amish people. If acne isn't present in a group of acne-free people who only procreate with eachother, the odds are good that generation after generation will be acne-free as well.
That makes Acne even more scary. It proves why people with acne don't get hit (like me) because the opposite sex is afraid that we procreate with the same disease.I hated my dad for that :S

agreed. in return for acne they have all sorts of other genetic disorders. when i lived in ohio there were several centers for genetic studies and schools for mentally retarded amish people.
i'd take acne over autism!
My grandparents used to be Amish - they left the church when my mom was 4 so I wasn't raised Amish but my mom's sister always struggled from terrible acne - and she always broke out after she drank milk! I have seen plenty of Amish folks with acne. A bunch of my relatives are still Amish.
If acne is heriditary then we all have the cure, stop breeding!
Of course this is a stupid comment to make, mainly because im sure there are other factors contributing towards the acne "Gene".
The person that first got acne probably didn't get it from their parents, probably did something to really piss off God, got stuck with a curse, then decided to have kids, and we're all descendants, woo for us!
Christ knows why some people do or don't get acne, what annoys me is when it gets a little better for no apparent reason, i do the same thing at the same time every day to my skin, i eat the same foods and drink the same liquids, i avoid an interesting, eventful life to treat my skin, why do i get different reactions? The only conclusion i can concoct is that acne works entirely at random, picking seemingly critical moments in time to strike, alternating in time of its occupation and migrating to any areas at any given time, it will then change all the aforementioned rules at any point with out any prior notice.
This to me seems a logical theory, if anyone has anything better, please enlighten us all.

It's often the same for me. I'm very much a routine sort of person, and because of the acne, I've become even more of a routine sort of person. Like you said, at the expense of freedom. And yet a breakout will occur at random for no apparent reason whatsoever. I can be unstressed, doing the same things every day for weeks at a time, and bam!

I dont think that is completely true. My parents never had problems...some people, like me, could just over do everything and some just have some of the other various problems that cause acne. Along with the other things people have said I think that the amish could just not think about it.
I don't think that is true. I live in northeastern part of Indiana and have been around many individuals of the Amish culture. I have seen Amish teenagers with acne and adults, although I have never seen any with severe acne. A lot of it is hereditary, I'm sure;again, I have seen some with acne, but not many.

bingo...that's exactly it. Acne is genetic.

Autism is a developmental disorder. Although Autistic people have a high rate of also suffering from mental retardation, i'm pretty sure they're two seperate things.
