Hi I am going through a really hard time with my skin lately , I am 24 and just now started having nasty breakouts , it's very hard on my self confidence and esteem and I work for a dermatology office so it makes it that much worse ...I recently got my eyebrows and lip waxed and I broke out really bad around the areas so I went to a derm dr and the dr prescribed me tretinoin cream 0.0025% and then clindamycin . The clindamycin works very well for my little acne but he said to use the retinoid on the large pustules.it has been a week today ,At first it started to peel but now the eyebrow area completely healed and my lip is gradually getting much better but still reddish and some of the spots still going thru cycle , and it seems like the tretinoin is making my acne come to a head faster almost over night ...I've read on here that is normal it my cheeks me chin are now with pustules and are very embarrassing ...I'm wondering if maybe I am using the cream too much and it's irritating them or making them faster or should I be using it every other day .i very concerned as far as scarring goes I won't touch them at all but they are just so unsightly and now my face looks worse than it before and really is affecting me ....is this normally for them to become pustules before they go away ? And does the redness go away .please help am just using cetaphil to wash face along with their moisturizer
Take things slowly. If your skin is really dry and tight and irritated and flaky, use it like three times a week instead of every day. Ease into using it every day. Also retinoids can take 4-6 months to work properly.
Personally, retinoids worked really well for me but for some reason AHA and niacinamide has worked even better at preventing pustules. I'm not sure why. Also if this acne happened after waxing, it sounds more like it might be cosmetic acne or a dermatitis type condition. You might just need some gentle skincare and a protective moisturizer. Does your skin feel right or dry after washing if you don't put any moisturizer on? If yes, you need a much heavier moisturizer. Aveeno's daily moisturizing body lotion is Fragrance free and has the skin protectant dimethiconrand oatmeal in it so I find it's quite good for irritated skin. The tretinoin might be overkill and just irritating your skin further. If I were you, I would try just using a gentle wash and moisturizer for a few weeks until your skin is atleast not dry and irritated and if you want using the retinoids like even just once a week until your skin calms down. I think It's important for the skin to be intact as a barrier and be able to hold water and feel healthy before you use something as harsh as a retinoids
It was dry when I started the retinoid along with clindamycin and it's been better , honestly I never used a moisturizer up until recently because I have such oily skin ...it has helped a lot I'm only using cetaphil gentle wash and moisturizer .the initial area around my eyebrows are back fo normal but my cheek on one side and my lip are still broken out if not scarred from the acne ... I haven't been using it as much since I posted this since much the acne is gone leaving ugly scars (sigh) but my upper lip it seems to not wanna heal and my cheek is breaking out where I've never broken out before .i believe I may have a hormonal imbalance maybe . When I do wash my fash though it does seem flaky in areas after washing ,like I said I use cetaphil moisturizer , the consistency feels thick but on my skin I feel like it doesn't work as well but I'm terrified or any products rn because I'm scared my face will react I everything .i have never used aha but I have been looking into it recently.
