Since I was 10 I've been an acne sufferer now I'm almost 33 years old and still suffering. I use to have constant whiteheads and a few cystic acne in the T Zone area as a child and a teenager. Now in my 30's I don't get whiteheads anymore but a lot of blackheads especially in the T Zone area. I still get a few cystic acne. I have developed very bad acne scarring in my T Zone. I've tried different over the counter products for the acne and the scars but no luck. My skin is very sensitive and a lot of the over the counter products have caused me to break out with cystic acne. I don't have it that bad maybe a pimple or 2. I've always worn makeup and I do think that is the problem too and I went one summer without makeup my skin did clear up. I will consider to stop wearing makeup but what to do about the scars and me being of African American decent I don't know which route to take for the scars.

Have you tried Aczone (5% Dapsone ... prescription only) gel? It's much gentler than BP and it's the only thing that has worked for me. I'm a dude. It's supposed to work better for women. I strongly suggest going to your doctor and trying to get a prescription for Aczone.

Give the medicine a try for at LEAST 6 months to a year. Apply diligently twice a day with a broad spectrum sunscreen. Do not be lazy. You can skip cleansing if you want. Just APPLY the gel.

After a year, your acne should have subsided a lot, in which case you can look into adding Retin A Micro (gentler than Retin A) in addition to Aczone. Then, you have the option of getting hydroquinone or a kojic acid soap to treat the hyperpigmentation. I have to warn you that hydroquinone has potentially extremely bad side effects, so you have to be careful. The Obagi system + Retin A is the gold standard in treating hyperpigmentation. On the other hand, you can try using a Kojic acid soap, which is 100% guaranteed will lighten scars, but it will burn. But it's also cheaper.

You have to be careful with both hydroquinone and kojic acid though, as both things will lighted your entire face (and body for the kojic acid soap if you apply it everywhere).

I personally have only experienced success with using Aczone as my primary active treatment for acne USED IN CONJUNCTION with juicing EVERY DAY. Aczone deals with active acne, while juicing deals with slowing the acne. I am also using Retin A Micro 0.04% at the moment to treat hyperpigmentation only, as I do not want to face potential horrifying side effects of hydroquinone.

TL;DR: Go to doctor and get Aczone and apply 2x a day for a year. Get a juicer if you can afford it. Then use kojic acid or hydroquinone and Retin A to lighten scars. Broad spectrum sunscreen everyday (I personally use Skinceuticals Ultimate UV Defense, but it's very pricey ....)
