Hi, my name is Reuben. I am new here. I've been reading post around here, getting some ideas, but I couldn't find my question so I decided to make an account and ask it myself.
I was sick like hell, maybe 2-3 weeks ago, I drank tylenol but it still bad so I decided to drink amoxicillin. I noticed my pimples go when I did take amoxicillin. I stopped, it came back. Then, I looked it up on the internet, and what do you know, amoxicillin for acne is being prescribed to others.
MY WHOLE LIFE, I've had acne. When I was in 4th grade, I started having small few ones. When I reached 9th grade, my classmate told me I look like a pig - being fat and having a lot of red pimple spots. From then on, I was down and all that - not necessary to know. Ha ha ha!
I tried different kinds of face wash I saw on TV, other stuff. I tried making the doctors prick all the acne on my face, and give me benzoyl peroxide, some face wash, and AFTER the pricking session (sounds weird but idk the term) only, he gave me a week worth of antibiotic. My face cleared up. Wow. But then it grew back. (All this was when I was maybe in 10th grade).
A friend of mine used cleansers WITH penicillin. She opens up the penicillin capsule, puts the powder IN the cleanser bottle, shake it, then used it. It works for her, but I haven't tried.
Now I stayed on amoxicillin for like almost 2 weeks.
My question is... how long can I go on amoxicillin without having the side effect which is not being effective on me anymore?
How long is the longest time possible to stay with amoxicillin? And will putting amoxicillin powder on my face work too like my friend?
I noticed that I poop too much because of this too. Stomach distress, maybe? But I'd rather deal with this than dealing with my face.
Thanks in advance for answers.
Yes, I most definitely have lol. As someone who has been on both antibiotics and Accutane, I highly recommend Accutane over antibiotics. Of course the decision is yours to make. I find that with antibiotics, your acne will most likely come back and potentially be worse than what you started with. I know people stay on antibiotics for years, but essentially that's going to do the same amount of damage to your body as the 6 months of Accutane. I feel like Accutane is not as scary as it's made out to be, because pharmaceuticals need to make money off you. There's a reason they're the biggest business around. If they don't keep you around as a patient, have you try every topical and antibiotic, how are they going to make money? They won't right off the bat give you Accutane, because if you're cured of acne, you won't be back there. Something to think about. I just don't want you to waste your time. Most of us here on acne.org mostly just regret not having gone down that route sooner.
It won't make you gain or lose weight. It will treat your acne lol. I have however noticed that a lot of people with a few extra pounds lose it once they're off accutane, simply because they can now work on their bodies rather than obsessing over their face. Simple correlation.
don't do roacutane! ONly but ONLY if you are so desparate and if you acne conditioni is very very bad, then go with acutane, but if you are not that bad then go with any other medication... I know my friend is still struggling with side effects of accutane, 4 years after taking it hes lips and eyes are very bad dry, and he also lost some hair.... I never used that medication and i never will, acne for me isn't so big estetic trouble, i don't care how i look, i got scars also which i am trying to fix but i am very calm about it, but for those people who are desparate and depresive then accutane is probably only solution, once again go with accutane only if you are deeply 'in pain', it's true that a lot of people got it fixed but % of people who have permanent side effects is really not small!
