Just Started Using Tea Tree Oil. It's Breaking Me Out. Is This Normal?

I started using tea tree oil about a week ago. I'm using the 100% kind from Trader Joe's and diluting it in Jojoba oil. I'll also put it directly on pimples undiluted.

Everyday now, for a week, I've had a new pimple. The TTO is the only new thing I'm using, but I'm also on my period, so it could be that - but I don't think so just based on my normal menstrual breakout schedule.

I know that new products usually need a detox period, but I'm concerned that the TTO is doing more harm than good. I've decided I'll give it two weeks.

My question is - has anybody else gone through a detox period while beginning TTO? How long did it last?

I'll tell you like this: I started using 2.5% BP and started breaking out more than usual..everyone on this site told me to stick it out and I did. That was a big mistake because now I have to deal with all of the red marks that were left that would have never been there if I would have stopped sooner. The day I stopped BP is the day my face went back to it's regular amount of acne (as opposed to the new pimple every single day track that my face took once starting BP) If in doubt i would stop,

It's hard to tell for sure if your skin is breaking out or getting used to the TTO. It's not like a retinoid that makes things worse before they get better so it shouldn't be breaking you out terribly. Give it a month or so.

If your pimples are hormone related aka cyst, tea tree oil wont work.

After reading around on the site, I've decided to stop using the jojoba oil for now and continue using the tea tree oil. I've used jojoba for about a year now, but if I really think about it, I haven't been able to get things under control since starting jojoba oil. (Even though in the beginning I really liked it and got the "glow.")

I only starting using jojoba oil because it was "acne safe." What can you believe anymore?

I really don't think it's hormonal, because I usually breakout before my period, and right now I'm at the end of it. So it has to be something I'm applying. This is exhausting.
