Hello everyone. I am a 17 year old male who has struggled horribly with acne for about 4 years now. It wasn't bad at first but the last 2 years have been pretty bad. Currently I have moderately bad cystic acne on my face, and very bad chest and back acne. 've gone to multiple dermatologists, tried so many
different products, methods, diets, you name it. I had tried (besides B5) everything except for Accutane. I've heard and read too many horrific things about it and what it does to your body.
Anyways, somehow I never really found out about B5 until a week ago. I read so many awesome stories about how people have had so much success with it after trying basically everything (like me). So right away I decided to try it.
The problem is, I don't know exactly how much to take, what to take it with, when to take it, etc. I've read online so many different things, anywhere from starting at 1 gram a day to taking 15 grams a day after only 2 weeks. I've also read about different things to take it with, none in which I know anything about. Finally, I've also read that you should take it after eating, if you can, because it can cause an upset stomach. But then again, I've heard it is more effective if you take it BEFORE eating.
So you get where I'm going, I'm not sure what exactly to do. 4 days ago I went to a local health store and spoke with an "expert" (he was highly recommended). He told me to start at 2 grams for 2 days, and then take 3 grams a day for a month and then come back to see what changes we should make. He said I don't need to take anything else with it, just make sure I eat before taking it. So I've been taking 3 500mg after lunch and dinner.
After 5 days, I've noticed my facial cystic acne has gotten worse, while my body acne has gotten better. My face seems less greasy and some cystic areas cleared up, but more have quicly formed, very painful ones. I am fully aware there is supposed to be an initial breakout, however: After reading some stuff online it seems my dosage may be too low. I am 6'5 and weigh 210, so I'm not sure how this plays into it. I also don't know if I need to be taking other vitamins or whatver along with the B5.
So, my questions are: Do I need to up my dosage? Do I need to be taking other things along with the B5? Before or after meals? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I wouldn't megadose on B5. I would take moderate doses of B5 plus other supplements that help acne through different mechanisms so you are attacking it from multiple angles.
800 IU of Vitamin E mixed tocopherols (you do need to take A, D, E and together daily--body can't process one without the others)
Plus up to 2,000mg of B5 daily. No more.
Technically you are "supposed" to take all the B vitamins in ratios, however people with acne frequently get more acne with all the B vitamins EXCEPT B5. I have taken B5 daily at the dose above without side effects and without taking other B vitamins. But I definitely would not go any higher than that.
P.S. I've worked at a health store as a consultant. There are no credentials for that job. Most of them are just googlers. Just so you know.
