So ive had backne for a good while, since I was 15/16. It was pretty embarassing because I was a dancer. Anyway im 25 now, and im seeing a dermatologist. I was using aczone (a topical antibiotic) and generic differn on my back. My back was pretty dry so she told me to stop the differin. Well i broke out a little more, so i decided to try some stridex wipes. Becsuse they had worked before. Of course my walmart has stopped selling stridex but I am able to get a pack for $3 at Dollar General. This is the only store I can find them at now. I like this brand though because its the only one in pads that is alcohol free, and also cheap. My skin cant do alcohol... Anyway, in combination with using the stridex, aczone, and going to the beach my back cleared up almost 100%. I literaly have not seen that since before puberty. Now that I am no longer on vacation id say my back is 80-90% clear. My skin always does better in florida, i think its mostly the humidity, but also absorbing vitamin d from the sun, and the antibacterial nature of ocean water. I know the stridex is effective though, because I saw improvements BEFORE i went on vacation. I think the Salicylic acid helps to unblock pores and lets the aczone sink in. If you can not go to a dermatologist you could probably substitute the aczone for benzolyn peroxide. I have extremely sensitive skin so i can not use bp on my face. The stridex did not help my face as much as my back.... I think mainly because my back skin is thicker and not as sensitive. I tend to wash the solution off my face, because otherwise it dries my facial skin.
here's another tip...try a weekly sea salt soak bath...or more if you have the time
search on this site for those who have used the sea salt baths....and if you can, opt for the dead sea salt you can buy in bulk on line
this way you have the ocean in your tub....sea salt can be healing...again search this site
and good for you that you've found something that works
another tip- make your own cleansing pad...use distilled water and buy a bottle of salicylic acid toner, add a little hibiclens or witch hazel, you make up the mixture to the %s you want then I saved the old containers from stridex, put clean dry plain cotton pads in the container and put the liquid on top
I never had much luck with the sea salt... But i was never super consistent with it either, so maybe I did not give it enough time. I do know that sea water contains a living organism simular to a pro biotic, in that it kills bacteria and p. acnes. From what I researched it needs the water to survive. But I know salt is antibacterial as well.
