Hey, I currently I exfoliate once daily (in the morning while in the shower) with a face scrub as well as washing my face twice a day with a salyclic acid cleanser by St. Ives. This is all I do in terms of skincare, I'm not on Dan's regimen or anything and don't use moisturiser or apply topicals, just cleanse and exfoliate. However, do I need exfoliate? I've read that salicylic acid breaks down dead skin and so do I really need to exfoliate because I feel it's just causing unnecessary irritation.

I think I'm going to stop exfoliating and see what happens i.e. if my face gets flakey or if I break out more. But I'd like to hear your thoughts on if exfoliating is neccessary if you wash with salicylic acide cleanser twice a day.

salicylic acid is an exfoliator although it doesn't feel like a manual exfoliator which has the grains or beads in it. Be careful now to over exfoliate I would say stick with the salicylic acid cleanser and drop the additional exfoliator and see how you get on. If you do have any flaky patches I find removing my cleanser with a damp warn wash cloth ( clean one every time) helps if I gently rub any dry or flaky skin area as I remove the cleanser, but go gentle. Make sure to moisturise well after cleansing and preferably a moisturiser with and spf and salicylic acid and any exfoliator can make you a bit more sensitive to the sun.

I hope this helps :)
