Hey guys! So I've finally narrowed it down to something that's it's a lot of my products that has been causing me issues. I was using " Simple- refreshing facial wash gel" and it had propylene glycol in it that caused me cystic pimples. Stopped using it and they cleared up immediately! I then realized I still had little clogged pores on my forehead which began when I started paulas choice BHA liquid- which has that as it's main ingredient. My neostrata oil free moisture infusion lotion also has it- and I think it's causing some as well. Does anyone have suggestions at all for moisturizers that don't have butylene glycol?! Help!

Good luck, almost EVERYTHING has butylene glycol/propylene glycol/pentalyne glycol/somotherkindof glycol in it. However, although these things do have a comedogenicity rating, it is very low and unlikely to be causing this sort of reaction. Are you sure it couldn't be something else or maybe hormonal?

I honestly don't think it's hormonal.. As they aren't cystic along my jaw and chin! But mostly clogged pores on my forehead.. And woke up this morning with a pastule on my cheek. The only comedogenic ingredients my moisturizer has is the butylene glycol and triathelomine. Which it could be that too now that I'm thinking. I am on Ortho cyclen, switched from alesse and seasonale as that's what I'm thinking was causing my extremely oily skin.

Hmmm. If you are switching pills a lot that might be the issue. I had a lot of issues from this ten years ago. If you really think it's the moisturizer, then the best you can do is keep trying. Comedogenicity rating are helpful, but everyone's skin is different so it's always trial and error. Although some products break me out, despite all my best efforts I have never been able to narrow it down to any specific ingredient. Wouldn't it be nice if you could find that one evil thing and eradicate it? Unfortunately it seems like most reactions are created by a combination of ingredients no one can ever predict.

p.s. If a comedogenicity rating of zero is what you are looking for: pure hemp oil has a rating of zero and is supposed to be amazing for your skin. I have always wanted to try it as a moisturizer, but I have an unreasonable fear of oil on my face.

Let me know if you ever figure this out. I use moisturel, which doesn't break me out like EVERYTHING ELSE, but it's sticky and hard to wear under makeup. I also dream of some day finding a moisturizer I actually like.

Some to try are Elta MD Intense, vaseline, aloe, GOW HA serums, and Face Reality Hydrating Emulsion.
