Hi all so I am contemplating as to whether I should start taking zinc tablets. I already take 1000mg of cod liver oil am and 2000g of evening primrose oil tabs too. I had seen improvements with cod previously in my life so I am religiously taking it again its been around a month so I haven't seen any improvements. I will give it another 3 months tops. After reading zinc reviews it seems good for hormonal acne which I believe to be suffering from as my acne is on my lower jaw line and left side of my forehead only :/

Has anyone taken zinc for hormonal acne? If so, how long did you have to take them till you seen an improvement? And, did you suffer from any initial breakouts?

Hope someone can help .......

I break out worse when I stop taking zinc, and it does improve it quite a lot. I only take 15mg a day now that I'm on accutane. before I took 45mg.

I took zinc and it actually GAVE me acne. Big painful ones on my chin and small red ones on my cheeks. I was surprised, because most people seem to say that zinc either does nothing, or makes acne better.

Zinc is definitely something you should consider pursuing. I have read nothing but great reviews on this supplement. Any negative responses were from people who thought it was a waste of money (in reality it's only 12$) because it didn't do anything, so there's really no downside. Either it will help improve your acne or it won't do anything, worst case scenario. It has been proven that Zinc helps effectively balance hormones which is obviously the key to getting rid of hormonal acne.

I am currently on 60mg/day of Zinc which I am doing for two weeks (one week to go) and am then dropping down to 30mg/day. Make sure, if you do decide to add this into your regimen, that you are getting enough copper. The ratio of Zinc to Copper should be at least 10:1. On a side note, another great vitamin to help balance hormones is magnesium. Most people nowadays are magnesium deficient anyways, so taking this will benefit you regardless if it helps your acne. Magnesium helps flush toxins out of your system (via the colon). This way your body will eliminating the toxins/free radicals more effectively and not wreak havoc on your skin.

Hope this helped! Good Luck! :)

I took Zinc Picolinate (heard it was the best one for acne)

Vitamin E

Vitamin D (Because I had a deficiency, but later heard some people say it helps acne)

and Fish Oil

I started breaking out really bad on Jaw line and nose. I wasn't sure what was causing it, because I tend to break out on my jaw when I shave too. I took the supplements for almost a month and quit cause I couldn't rule out if they were causing the breakouts but they definitely weren't helping. I since have started Tretinoin treatment and am still breaking out in those areas, but I don't feel as if its that bad. I'm going to wait till I clear up and give it a second chance, at least just the fish oil for my joints and such.

Hey guys. SO, I have taken zinc for around 120 days, coming to the end of the bottle. Not, seen much improvements I don't think. Still get spots here and there. So, I will prob stick with it till another month or so and see if it makes any difference.

Still searching for a cure.

I tried giving my teenage sons zinc and it seemed to cause acne. They were taking 30 mg per day. Within a week of starting the zinc they both had new pimples forming. Nothing else changed in their habits.
