Over the last week the sides of my face and forehead have eruppted with Closed Comedones.

If I am in sunlight it looks disgusting like big insect bites all over my face. In normal light my skin just looks lumpy (which also isn't very attractive)

I have been using benzoyl peroxide and taking Lymecycline but its just been making my skin extremley red and dry, is this treatment helping my whiteheads?

If not, what would you suggest, and how long can it take to cure?

BP definitely helps whiteheads, it did for mine. I just hate using BP because of the dryness/flakiness.

Im trying to stop using bp because of the things im reading about it now, but i cant deny that it works wonders for me and has since i was in high school. I use neutrogena %2.5 bp. For me, using it after my moisturizer keeps my skin from flaking. A thin layer morning and night after my wash/tone/moisturize routine. I should note i have very oily skin, but even for me bp is tough on my chin and cheeks if i dont moisturize first.

Thanks for the replies.I just have very uneven skin its very bumpy from the acne, i don't get cysts but a lot of whiteheads and blackheads.I know everyone says to use glycolic and saylicillic. Ive been using Mario Badesco for the last 1 year and i haven't seen an improvement in my skin texture. I recently switched to Liquid AHA and my skin stings a lot after using this. How do i just get smooth skin like i see others who have recovered from acne with?

So i just figured out right now how to find posts that ive commented on. Duh! Im fairly new and didnt know. Ive been searching through pages to try to remember. Ugh!

Not sure if you will see this now, but ill respond anyway. I havent used glycolic. Its something im looking to right now actually. I want to figure out which is the best, whether it be the cleanser or cream or a peel. I need to find something that helps with the purplish acne marks. I know one thing though, it seems that you need to be careful with. Hopefully i can find something that is gentle enough for my oily sensitive skin.

Salycilic does nothing for me so i cant comment on that. Bp is the only thing that works for my acne.

Apple cider vinegar is helping me with texture. Even with a break out, my skin is smooth. I use it as a mask. Lemon juice from real lemons helps as well.

My new thing is aloe vera juice. Aubrey organics. So calming and its fading my scars! I would like to try aloe straight from the plant as well.

One tip i have that i stand by is expensive products. I quit them all. I used neutrogena products for the last 15 years and i loved them. But i had moments where i tried some pretty expensive things. Some worked well, most were terrible. But honestly they still werent as good as neutrogena and the price of them was unnecessary. Ill spend money on good makeup but not on soaps and lotions. Everything i have in my bathroom drawer is under $15 and some of it is lasting for soo long. Much longer. Def money well spent. And its all from the vitamin shoppe or walgreens. If you by chance read this, let me know. I would love to share what im using in place of expensive products filled with all those ingredients that should be avoided. Still trying to find something to replace the bp, but at least everything else im using is almost completely natural. Hope youre well!

BP doesn't work on my closed comedones, not in a efficient way anyways, it will literally just dry the top layers of skin out till they peel off then maybe some of the comedones will go away after my skin is basically burnt from bp. I have found using sulfur works better for me. I just use a toner with sulfur in it and that seems to help.

Just saw you use mario badescu, have you tried using the special cucumber lotion?

Sulfur and salicylic acid will remove them. A great purge will happen when using sulfur and SA.

Cerave salicylic acid with ceremides and vitamin D lotion is a good one to pick up.

De la Cruz 10% sulfur ointment is one of my favorites. You can follow the instructions on the label or mix a small amount with your moisturizer.

Any creamy face wash that doesn't foam containing salicylic acid will work. Just open your pores with warm water, dry your face and apply the face wash onto dry skin. Let it set for a few mins then wash off with warm water. Olay and clearasil make some of these face washes.

Closed comedones are the hardest type of acne to get rid of. It takes time to see results.
