Hello!
Now being Australian, I'll start off by saying I'm not using the acne.org regimen, but there is a product kit with similar ingredients sold by Benzac (foaming cleanser, 2.5% bp and a non-greasy moisturiser).
I began using this in the prescribed way by Dan and noticed immediate improvement after the first day of use (reduced redness, pimples going down, much healthier skin appearance overall). However, I began to experience severe redness that built up and peaked at the end of the first week. At this point my whole face was red as a tomato and I had what looked like a mild rash around my jawline (just a darker red area, not itchy or swollen). I stopped using the products and went back to a 2% salycilic face wash once a day. Does this constitute an allergy to bp? Given that the product didn't immediately cause redness and took a few days to become irritated I wasn't sure.
I'm planning to restart now to finish offthe last few spots I have left after cleaning up my diet and taking zinc, but I'd like some advice on whether this is a good idea given my reaction. I was planning to begin with once every 2 days at night only with a pea sized amount of bp used, and gauge how red this makes my face
Hello Hello!
Though irritation/redness/dryness/tightness is common during the The Regimen, I think it is a good idea that you stopped applying the BP on your face. Giving yourself a few days off is a good idea. When you resume your application of the BP, I suggest you apply a tiny amount on your chin or jawline and see if you experience the same reaction. If you do, it is possible you are in the small percentage of people who is allergic to benzoyl peroxide. However, if you find your skin can handle this small application, continue to apply a small amount there for another week to ensure you are not allergic before proceeding to cover your entire face. Alternatively, you can also apply some BP behind your ear to check for an allergic reaction if you are afraid of redness on your face.
I also have sensitive sin and am restarting The Regimen, too. Currently on Week 2, Day 10. The dryness and tightness is so unbearable but I know it is part of the process. If I feel like the BP is overkill for my face, I might reduce application of the BP until my skin gets adjusted again. I am also experiencing a lot of redness so it is possible you are just experiencing the normal process of this Regimen.
